Honda Accord and their transmission issues..

a friend of mine has a 99 or a 2000 accord v6 coupe, and with the horrible auto tranny.. and its slipping and D4 light isflashing and all that stuff like its supposed to...lol What is the issue with them? Ive read all the comments about them from sites. but cant find real answers, is it an electrical problem with the tranny or mechanical. And whats the cheapest route to repair it, ikow we got a million honda techs who have delt with this.. before..

ive noticed that to ive seen alot of new accord for sale real cheap all cause the tranny is fvcked up

once the d4 light blinks, its pretty much game over. when was the tranny fluid last changed on your friends accord?

there was a recall done on them, but right now its going to be hard for honda to honor that since it was only up to 100k miles i believe.

the failure was either with the shift solenoid being clogged from metal shavings, or one of the clutch packs going out (cant remember off the top of my head). cost to repair will be around $3-4k depending on where u get it done. and in that cause, you're much better off just 6 speed swapping the car for that price.

mechanical. Cheapest solution without doing a 6 speed convert is just do transmission flushes and install a transmission cooler. Then pray...

6 Speed Swap(1800-4000)

well this is no tuner type person, infact its a girl...so she jus twants a regular fix...

heres the story on the tranyn fluid
it was fine, but she got the fluid changed at jiffy lube or somewhere and they put the wrong fluid in there and tahts when the accord tranny started to show, liek a week or so later. Shes having a hard time proving that they used the wrong fluid etc.. and they are denying it as usual.. But taht part is all on her.. i wouldnt have let it go on this far if it was my car.. but putting the wrong fluid in a tranny is a serious no no...especially Auto

So if i do a good tranny flush on it and get the correct fluid, would be worth trying?

I had an 6th gen Accord V6 about 3 years ago and my tranny broke twice. Best bet is to either replace it with an OEM transmission or just get it rebuilt. Just be sure to stick with oem fluids. Aftermarket fluids are known to destroy the AV6 transmissions. Once its rebuilt, you can get a tranny cooler which can help make the tranny last longer.

Even with a tranny flush, the damages could still be there. The problem can still show later on, even if it seems like its normal. Does it shift rough?

u start the car put it in

D4 and than it will slip out of D4, and wont move... to move it u have to put it in 2 move than 3, and than after moving more finnally back in D4.. but than itwill be very very very sluggish.. slipping during accelration.. but if u cut the car off the process starts all over.

only use honda ATF, no matter what anyone tells you. they have a friction modifier in their ATF that most other fluids do not have. however, if its the shops fault, i would take it up with them.

why go out 3-4k out of pocket when it wasnt even the owners fault?

i agree.... last time she went she got the run around. I told her to let me go to the corporate office with her next time to get it solved. because its obviously their fault.

**** like this is another reason to service your car at the dealership. What are the odds of honda techs, putting in the wrong fluid in the tranny?

ya man, i know those trannys suck, my wife got a 98 and it is definetly slippin, i tried to get her to do a 5 speed manual swap (she got the f23 engine) but she does not want to learn how to drive a stick, one thing i have to admit, there is plenty of room in that engine bay for a nice size turbo, im looking for a broken down one to boost

I had exact same problem with my 99 v6 accord. This is known issues with v6 accord autos. Honda extended the warranty to 100k. Tell her to ditch the car and get something else. It is not worth the fix and known to break again.
