Gwinnett County on Monday to reduce collisions between passenger vehicles and commercial trucks by urging them to "leave more space" between them.

As part of the Georgia Department of Public Safety's "Targeting Aggressive Cars and Trucks" program (TACT), some 35 officers will be stationed this week along the roughly 30-mile stretch of I-85 from Sugarloaf Parkway into Jackson County and up I-985 to Ga. 20. Four signs have been mounted throughout the corridor with illustrations that indicate a safe distance for lane switching and warn to drivers to avoid a ticket.

That is the same 30 mile stretch I take to get to work in the morning and go home in the evening. Guess I better be on my best behaviour. :goodjob:

Thanks for the post. :D

Only if he did it within that 30 mile stretch of road AND was seen by at least 1 of the 35 cops posted there. If both reqs. are met, then bust his ass! :goodjob:

I drive from Atlanta to Greenville, SC Monday through Friday (today was no exception) and yesterday and today I saw at least 30 cops (DOT, county, state) between MOG and Jefferson County (Exit 137). I wondered what was going on. Later, QD.

I got pulled over by DOT yesterday on 85 north in Commerce yesterday and got a seatbelt warning. I was adjusting it bc I had to p*ss and it was killing me. I took it off at the wrong time to adjust. He was cool about it but I turned it into my supervisor yesterday afternoon. No big deal, I explained myself and didn't even get a lecture.
The freakin cops were all over 85 though! Pulling all kind of folks over. It was insane.

are you a commercial vehicle? I've seen them pull over the dually car haulers. Never any RV's or cars. :dunno:

I'm a CDL holder and I  the :police:. I can't say how many times I've come close to smashing a little car. Some are clueless that they just cut off a heavy truck. They are just yapping away on cell or texting.. :(

Yup. I drive a bucket truck 4-6 days a week. I as well as QD have no respect for people who disregard commercial drivers.

Who do you drive for? You can PM if you want. I drive Mon thru Fri all over the state and South Carolina and some of Alabama. I work 12 hour shifts with no weekends, though. And I still kill the paychecks of our OTR guys. Later, QD.

I had someone cut in front of my company truck one day on 85 in Gwinnett with maybe a foot between us. Then he had to slam on brakes as soon as he got in front of me. Luckly I barely tapped him, then HE wanted to call the cops

I don't know necessarily that this is a good thing. I just have seen from experience that most people go barreling down the freeway then they see a cop and slam on the brakes. I can't tell you how many avvidents i have seen because of that.

I think the cops are focusing the most attention on the stretch between the Mall of Georgia and Jefferson. That is where QD said he saw all the cops. I drove home yesterday up 85 and then up 985 and saw a total of 2 cops. One was responding to a fender bender. So, the article said that there would be some posted from Sugarloaf and up as well as up to Hwy. 20 on 985, but that has not been the case yet. Either way, everyone be careful out there. No need for stupid tickets from stupid driving. :goodjob:
