not exactly breaking news, but I thought it was interesting non-the less.
"Apparently, Coalition troops have discovered some of Uday Hussein's auto collection sitting in a barn somewhere out in the middle of nowhere. (Sounds a bit fishy huh?) All of the cars have been neglected for 5+ years and no longer run. Something interesting not mentioned in the report is that there are only 4 to 5 cars that have been recovered--so where are the other 1-2000?
Here's a link to the CNN video report...

Here's a link to Uday's 550 Maranello that...ugh...well...didn't end in the best condition either.

Lamborghini LM002
Chassis #
Engine #
This Navy Blue/Tan LM002 belonged to Uday Hussein, one of Saddam Hussein's sons in Iraq.
On July 18, 2004 at a USA military base near Baqubah, Iraq this LM002 was used to simulate (test) the effects of a V.B.IE.D. (Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device). The vehicle was stripped of it's front seats (which were subsequently transplanted into the COL's vehicle) and packed full of explosives. It was then parked next to a concrete barrier that was similar in construction to those that surrounded the base. The photos at left show the car before and after detonation. Unfortunately, the men involved in this little experiment were unaware of the rarity of this vehicle at the time and it was not until they arrived home in the USA that they were able to do more research on exactly what they had.
This car not longer exists!

I fail to see why they are idiots. Its not like they could have brought it home. Any time you can get free vehicles to test/train soldiers on the effects of a VBIED is damn good training. Have you ever been blown up by an IED? Well I have! Some photos were let out of a sniper team in iraq shooting up a mercedes. Some idiots on a forum were bashing them saying that the reason people over there hate us is because all we do is blow up there ****. Well what they failed to realize is that the guy orig. driving the mercedes was responsible for 6 soldiers/marines death in a string of car bombs in ramadi. They captured the guy and seized his vehicle. The IP's (iraqi police) decided they were going to destroy the car. They asked the sniper team that was with them if they wanted to do some training with there new AP rounds. Anywho.. Please enlighten me as to why they are idiots!

Because there wasn't anybody in this thing. Its like me coming to your house and taking your car for the purpose of blowing it up.
Now if you were in the rack im not gonna argue with you cause you obviously have seen some **** and of course your gonna back your boys.
But what im is that they could have used something else. No one firing anything at them from this vehicle and they just came upon it and said, yeah lets blow this one up. They obviously went through it before hand and knew there were no secret explosives rigged to it so it was fine.
Again. They blew up a rare vehicle when they could have used something else and that is all there is to that.

.............. you take a survey of people in the military and under the category of "one of the reasons you joined up" you'll find a lot of, "to blow up/shoot holes in ****" type answers............ so these guys have a good "things we blew up" story to tell for years to come, I never got to blow up a Lamborghini while I was in. I would have gladly packed that lambo full of explosives and and blew a wall down with it, lol.

They were the first Pirelli Scorpions.
Pirelli made them especially for this vehicle.

From Lambocars.....
The LM-002 was mounted on massive Pirelli Scorpion tires which offered unmatched road holding capabilities on both tarmac and sand, but which were also very expensive. These tires were exotic, Automobili Lamborghini SpA had Pirelli made them especially for the LM and offered them in two different tread designs, one for 'mixed' use and the other for 'sand' use only. These tires could be run virtually flat without risk and were the only rubbers available to compete with the desert heat, the loading and the speeds that the LM could inflict on them.
I went on a LM002 Forum and it appears it is near impossible to get the originals. They are rarer than the rarest Nismo parts. Most of the guys are settling for Mickey Thompsons, Goodyears, or others like new Scorpions that fit and are as capable. But really, most everything will be better than a tire designed in the mid 80's.

I see what you're getting at, but check this out...These folks over there have a WHOLE LOT MORE on their minds besides saving a rare car. Their lives, their comrade's lives, their loved ones back home, their safety and the list goes on. A car, no matter what it is, is/should be the last thing on their mind. I'm pretty sure that time is of the essence so, being they probably don't have a Buford Hwy (million car lots) over there, they have to take what they can get for their training. I'm sure they would rather know how to react to a threat involving a car than trying to figure out to get the driver and men inside without damaging the paint. Lolol.
Not ragging on you, man. You know that (I hope). Later, QD.

Yeah, i think that guy that i first responded to has military experience so he has to defend his men which is understandable. It's not like it was the only LM002 in the world and having that family own it only does bad things to its value. So yeah in the line of fire, being a car nut comes second.
