if you are that scary find the 3rd rear window brake light

...the reason i asked is cuz i've seen many posts on other forums about it... and depending on the state, the answers vary... and honestly, im prolly gonna shave it anyway, but my car already attracts enough cops, and im not lookin for anymore attention

oh and if I were you I'd keep the 3rd since now a days thats what everyone pays attention to when braking in traffic... just thought you might not want a soccer-mom on a cell phone ramming you car and her excuse is "I didn't see you brake 'cause you have no 3rd brake light thingy"

your absolutely right, they do sell maximas without spoilers, and the ones without spoilers have 3rd brake lights in the rear window... now since mine came with a spoiler, there isnt one in the rear window... thus, the whole point for the question:D

Because GXE and GLE models have it on the rear deck.

if your vehicle came equipped with it from the factory then YES it is illegal to remove it, you can move it around as long as it still functions properly but it is ILLEGAL to remove it all together. it is designed to come on a couple milliseconds before the regular lights. now whether or not you get a **** head cop that will give you a ticket for it or not is a different story.

thats retarded so all the fools that take off theyre spoilers with a 3rd ligh and add aftermarket ones (cf, or aluminum) are all subject two ticketing..
no u need 2 working breaklights tailights the 3rd is just a added safty feature that is not held by the law to stay on ur car.
and my sister is married to a gwinnett co. cop and i asked to humor the next fool to say its illegal and he too laughed @ the question its not illegal.. now shave it

then the cops are retarded ur required by law to have two functioning tail lights @ eye level on the furthest point of each side of the rear of the vehicle so cars in each lane next to u can be aware of u stopping you do not have to have a 3rd breaklight to be on the road and cops are to stupid and busy to try to remember what car is equipt with 3rd lights and which are not. being there are cars with out them they can not ticket u for a stock option. im suprised some one is actually thinkin so hard they asked this question..
smh

True for state law. The only law I can think of is FMVSS 108 dealing with the CHMSL...and that is Federal Law. But, people drive Skylines and break Federal Law all the time. I wouldn't worry about getting a ticket for no CHMSL, unless that ticket involved someone rear-ending you. Then instead of getting a new car, your insurance might buy the other guy a new one. Also all cars made after 1985 were required to have one, so there really isn't a way to order a car after 1985 with the 3rd brake light as an "option"

A good read about the effectiveness:

this is stupid ive been talking to my buddy on the gwinnett pd and he and his fellow officers are laughing at this, so if it is illegal not to one then all u mini trucks and cars with out them move to gwinnett the cops there obviously could give a chit as long as u got 2 workin taillights

i agree 100% it is stupid, but a law regardless. like i said most cops 99% wont enforce it or really give 2 chits about it, unlesss you go to myrtle beach sc. for some reason they give a f*ck. and they will pull out the tape to measure your head lights and tail lights, nad anything else they can think of if you have a modified car.

By law, you are not required to have a 3rd (center) brake light. I do feel as if it is safer to have one on, espically in harsh conditions.
