so I've heard both sides to the poor mans type r idea. some say its good, some say its bad. as far as an all motor build is concerned, will I be better off in the long run with a b16 head or a gsr head? I will be running crower 2 3/4 cams with cam gears and dual springs and retainers. my next step is an intake manifold but I need know which head I should use to get the right manifold. all help is appreciated, reps to valid advice. thanks

i had the b16 on a gsr block on my old setup all stock it was pretty strong but i believe the b16 head lowers the comp alil than the gsr head correct me if im wrong .. but if you going to rebuild and use stock parts get some p30s and that will bump up the comp that is what i was going to do but now im going to do a diffrent setup

well which head flows better? I hear everyone saying the gsr head and manifold are both crap, but then the b16 head lowers compression. I have a jdm gsr swap in the car right now and I'm looking for the most bang for the buck.

I dont mean to be rude, but this question has been asked 1201029014319089246y8944-1283-81953280028945720/G times.

Ive answered it if you would read the STICKY at the top of the forum or if you did a quick search all questions would be answered.

But since im bored.

The GSR head adds .3 compression because of the quench pads on the combustion chamber.

As far as FLOW, they both almost flow the same, and the difference is so minute you couldnt tell the difference at all. There is no HP difference.

Both heads will flow an support up to around 200whp before they need to be ported or worked.

Most people go with the GSR head because it gives them .3 compression without having to do anything to the pistons or valves or worry about valve to piston contact.

And a Poor Mans ITR would be

GSR block, B16 head

A GSR block with a GSR head, well, that would be a GSR LOL

Personally id run a GSR block, PR3 b16 pistons, GSR head.

dont do anything to the inside of the motor then.

Buy a Hytech Replica header (I sell them PM me for pricing)

Buy a Crome ECU (I sell them)

Get it tuned and youll make 180-185whp if the motor is healthy

I had checked many threads and stickys about this subject but they all seemed to be left open ended because of all the conversations that followed the post. Besides, I have trouble knowing who to listen to on these threads sometimes because of all the bad advice inexperienced people can give. I had purchased a b16 head a while ago because I had read in many places that a poor man's type r built a bunch of power, but now that everyone has experimented there are different points of view. I guess I'll end up staying with the full gsr set up and just build it as is. I appreciate everyone's help and advice, especially Mr. Kidd. You definitely know your hondas and I thank you for the pointers. Every dilema solved is another step closer to the build, thanks everyone.

Just listen to Mr. Kidd like the others have said. Either one will be the same in reliability(stock that is). If your gonna do some cams,IM,etc. Its all in the TUNE

and its been proven you dont even work on your own cars.

whats ur point. id rather listen to someone who actually does their own work instead of an internet whore.

i personally like a gsr bcause of the better quinch in the combustion chamber wich promotes a better burn when the cylinder pushes all the air/fuel into the wedge towards the center of the spark plug. a type r and b16 have a more open chamber design. if one had the money id recomend on a setuo getting gsr head and having a shop weld and machine a 4 leaf clover shape into the head and polish and deck it. super awsome quench areas= killer burn with lower carbon buld up.
