The Nopi National was actual a really good thing for the Atlanta's car scene because all the media attention it brought, and people travel from all over for it. The problem was it just wasn't able to keep up with the times, and started losing support. Now with it's demise, this would be the perfect opportunity to make an more up-to-date event (or meet). I'm pretty sure if everyone join forces we could turn that weekend around have something similar to Import Alliance. Just look at what Dirty Octopus was able to pull off with just a few weeks and only the help of a few friends. The only problem would be a location and I'm pretty sure there are plenty of connection on IA that could solve that problem. I just want to see if anyone would be down for a replacement Nopi meet because all it really need is support.

It's not about trying to top it. Basically, Nopi put Atlanta on the map each year in the car scene. Now we don't have that anymore. So we need to keep it alive. Look at what IA is doing for Nashville, or the Eibach meet does for Cali. As of now, Atlanta has .... :???:

IMO it looks like Import Alliance will be the next "nopi" for now.

Nothing will come close to what NOPI NATLs was, in terms of size and attendance.

You guys do realize that they were charging vendors as much as $50,000 for a midway spot right?

Heres the problem, they charged big companys like EIBACH booth space, then, when a customer wanted to buy eibach springs, they would peddle the NOPI #1 brand. They ruined alot of people in the SC industrys credibility.

They had ****ty vendor support and ****ty business owners. plain and simple.

As far as the "next thing", Varsity is always big. But trying to come up with something as big as the Natls, wont happen this year , no way. You wont attract people from Cali, Texas, etc the same way. you cant replace a tradition like this in 2 months time.

Someone with DEEP pockets would have to step up, i dont see that happeneing, not in todays economy. You do realize that one of the main reason for the NDRA series having issues was $5 a gallon Diesel right? Sponsors were giving any money out, and people couldnt afford to drive 1300 miles for an event,etc.

I think its good to show support like this, and im not trying to get you guys down, but your best bet is to contact AMS and pay the $5000 to rent their outside parking lot, thats the only thing i can see happening to accomdate 300 cars, thats assuming people would even show up.

If you are into this kinda thing, support the local DRIFT events , Import Alliance, TunerFest, etc.

Oh and lastly, you cant just have a MEET at AMS. You have to have security, trash detail, INSURANCE (million dollars), Ambulance on standby, business license, permits, etc.

Its not the Varisty where you just show up.

Having 500 cars is a logistics nightmare. Not saying it cant be done, but if you guys are serious you need to contact the people hosting HIN and IA to see who does their promotions, etc

Although I'm sad to hear NOPI shut down events, this is a good thing for some of the smaller, less "Wal-Mart" venues. Maybe we can attract some more attention to Import Showdown with all of the former sponsors of NOPi.

We all know that I.S. is more of a sportsman event with volunteers working the lanes, but maybe some of this attention could help it grow from the average 150 cars to a good 250 cars or more.

The fastest route to failure is ignorance. If you don't know what you're doing (in regards to event management) you seriously do not even want to ponder the idea.

If this community really wants to replace the NOPI Nats for 09 (08 is out of the question logistically) there are people in this area who live, eat, sleep, sh/t and breath this industry and would be more than willing to contribute their professional, experienced assistance.

Any attempt to half-ass a new production, or shoot to high too fast will surely end in failure.

Don't make the same mistake the Meyers duo did. Ask for help and counsel from those within this community that actually know what they're doing.

Your passion + their experience + REAL contacts = possible success

Instead of saying "Let's do this and this" try "lets get together with some industry professionals, pick their brains and see what's possible".

Just a hint: If you need 500-1000 spots for cars with ample spectator parking, power, security, and entertainment and vendor space with guaranteed protection from the elements (Music Midtown demise) - look no further than one of the over 50 parking decks in the Downtown Atlanta Area. Usually empty on the weekends, these companies would love to host an event and pull in some extra revenue.

There are more options than what's been done in the past.

ok, from what I understand nopi weekend at ams is not availible(sp). and as far as renting the parking lot for just any day, refer to mr.kidd's post.

I believe from what inside sources have hinted at ams will be having a gigantic edition of their "Friday night drags" with a focus on the import scene with a large car show and 1/8th mile drag racing. supposedly this is gonna happen on the Friday or Saturday when nopi was gonna happen so the best thing to do is find sponsors,advertise,promote this event and make due with what we got.

Overall though - in my opinion this is a big frickin deal. You can love or hate NOPI... and there are definitely reasons for both. But the fact that they've fallen is not good for the industry as a whole..... and it's not good for the South.
