So, I've recently run across a 1988 Nissan 200sx RWD(the precursor to the 240sx, not the front drive car of the same name) and wanted to know if anyone knew about the VG30E motor that is in it. This thing will not go far with the 300,000 on the ticker, but I have to have it. So, does anyone know where I can source a motor and if the rumors are true about bolting up pre-89 300zx suspension parts? Best Japanese didn't give a reason, just told me an absolute no on a used motor. Thanks in Advance.

The engine came in many nissan cars in that time period the most prevalent of these cars was the Z31 turbo. I would look for one of these engines ina junk yard but because of the age of the engine it would be a good idea to just rebuild it or look into swaps.. rb...........

Precursor and predecessor are actually alternates for each other. The reason I used PRECURSOR was to show that the 200SX was the car used for the introduction of the new bodies of RWD sport compact cars to come for Nissan. For example the 240sx and 350z. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Those motors are mad complex but when done right they are pretty good on power. make sure that you replace ALL of the vaccum and water lines in the back of the motor. I say swap in the S/C Xterra motor and call it a day.
