View Full Version : A Quick Question for all you Guys who are SLAMMED...?

I am slammed too, but i have a bit of a problem. There is this one speed bump in my friends apartment complex that always scrapes the **** out of my car's bottom, even if i take the bump at the maximum angle with the amount of space i have.....

What should i do? I really would like to keep my car as low as it is, i dont want to raise it up just for that one speed bump...:( ...I was thinkin about putting some kind of block of wood or something under my tires before the bump maybe, or something like that?

Help me out here y'all!

Most of the people on here who claim to be "slammed" aren't.

As far as the block of wood goes, if you feel like getting out every time you go over that bump, then go for it. Then would get tiring after a while though. The block of wood wouldn't really help anything. You'd scrape just as much. And in the same spot. The only thing you can do, if possible, is find the lowest point in the bump and try your angles there. Other than, you're stuck with what you have. I've been riding truly slammed since 1987 so I've dealt with bumps for over 20 years. Later, QD.

Go at it really fast so once you hit the bump... Your airborn... Easy enough

DANG, so i guess scraping is just a part of the life of being slammed then huh?

:(

I guess, even though it really sounds painful from the inside, its not really all that bad if i take it slow...?

rubbing the pinch rail most likely you will be ok

07-09-2008, 09:11 PM
As long as you're not scraping the oil pan or transmission you'll be alright. you can always just touch it up with some rubberized undercoating.

Scraping is ok. Banging is not

LoL btw, i forgot to mention (not like it matters...) but, this is on a 90 Integra.:D

EDIT: Also, i read this on a lowered car website/forum, and im sure it doesnt make sense, but what about this? Is there a "technique" to getting over w/minimal scraping?

ever wonder why you see lowered cars crab walking over a speed bumb
meaning FL wheel first then complete lock to FR and repeat for the rear its alll in an effort to maintain two wheels on the highest surface to clear it
this ritrual is now your BFF

What this is talking about is the whole going over it @ an angle to keep the bottom of the car as high as you can. Just try to keep a tire on the bump @ all times. Kinda an extreme angle but if it helps go for it.

Or just ^^^^^. Everyone can use the exercise

yep, can't avoid it sometimes. Georgia is ranked one of the worst states in the country for rough roads. As long as you aren't scraping holes in your oil pan or your exhaust you'll be fine.

I have been slammed in the past and in my opinion its more of a pain than anything else. Raise it up to just a 2-3 inch drop and you will be fine.

What its talking about with the at a angle, you want one front tire and the opposite rear tire on the speed bump at the same time. Then your car will be lifted into the air more. Its and extreme angle to do it, but its the best way to go. I have had my old integra so low it scraped going down the road if you crossed over the center of the road where the highest point was. That is slammed.

Thank you!

Jesus christ are you fuc.king serious? If your car is slammed on the ground, its hard to grasp, but yes, it will bottom out an scrape on things.

Weird concept i know

What do you do to fix it? RAISE THE BIT/CH UP AND STOP RIDING ON THE BUMP STOPS.

Being slammed is gay

ever considered maybe putting some extra money into getting an airbag suspension? so you can drop it, and raise it when need be?

and I mean the kind you can use for performance/daily driving not the show kind

RandomGuy

real talk what i do wherever I usually scrape (on my daily with a sh!tty suspension)... is just go fast, slam the brake inches before the bump so the weight transfers forward... and then as the weight transfers back I enter the bump at an angle... but sometimes i use ramps and go fast and do loop-dee-loops in the air

Apparently you have never driven up north. GA has nothing on some states like ohio, indiana and michigan. Much less Canada. :D

psh. you dont need the bottom of your car anyway!

hah. i feel my floor move when i go over certain speed bumps.

does your devil speed bump have a split in the middle? if so, just put the split right where your exhaust is (if that's whats scraping)....

i mean i have pretty much destroyed my car because of how low it is... i have an exhaust leak that i DIDNT have two weeks ago ... and there are about 50 less reflectors on 75 south up around tennessee.

raise it up a teeny bit. maybe you wont even notice =)

if you took off your side skirts it wouldnt be that low at all. my miata is lower than that and i only have to go over 3 local speedbumps at an angle. one near sonic in dacula, one in my moms neighborhood, and the infamous mall of georgia brick wall.

Atlanta was rated as having the worst roads in America in regards to scenery and accessibility to other areas (sidewalks, shopping centers). As far as roughest roads, Georgia didn't place in the Top 10. Later, QD.

sledgehammer, blow torch, ky jelly, jack hammer, compressed air and the newest issue of super street... get all these things and you'll know how to fix this issue....

but if you don't...

sledgehammer - yeah that frickin bump into submission!
blow torch - fire is cool, plus i don't know any other reason than that
KY jelly - lube said bump and hope that works to "slide" over it lol
jack hammer - if all else fails
compressed air... well.. seriously who doesn't like it?
Super Street issue - place it under your car and rip the magazine to shreds instead of your precious undercarriage...

^ if none of these work i suggest marta^
