So? It's a good time to throw 3.91's in it anyway. I am waiting till mine pops before upgrading the rear end... but as strong as the GTOs rear ends are I have no idea when that will be or how you hurt yours.

What did you do? reverse at 20 mph, and then a first gear 6k clutch dump?

sararose
07-10-2008, 12:05 AM
You refilled it and it broke after? Did you not use the right stuff or not put enough in? It's as easy as changing you're own oil.

I think after all that talk about Thacker lying about gearing, you purposely sabotaged the goat to get geared yourself! ;)

no, the diff felt a little wierd before. given that i had a leaking pinion seal, i figured it was just a little low on lube. so i drained the old, which looked clean, and filled it back up just teh way i had done a couple times before and had no issues, so yeah, i know i did it right. its not rocket science. :)

damn dude, that sucks. This is the same reason I wont run anyone unless its from a roll. Are you going back stock to stock gears or a higher ratio?

nah, stock gears. i like being at 80 mph at 2k rpms :D

I've got a stock diff from my C5Z from when I upgraded mine.

Let me know if you're interested. I'm pretty sure they're interchangable. Has like 25k miles, no harsh launches.

nah, i've already found a diff. i do appreciate it tho!

ohh Derek we do heart you so...but eli has been way busy with a $30k plus twin turbo build that they even put 'do not enter signs' on the shop so they can get it done. luckly sabrina loves us and let us stop by to say hey hey. but i think they are skipping town for week after that build b/c it took up their holiday weekend to get it done. i really do hope the truck tops 800whp.

then eli can start his evil plans for the goat

You've got a lot of balls calling me the retard, especially after how nice I was about the situation.

The only retarded thing about the situation that night was you thinking you stood a chance.

I am not being a **** now, I just have no idea how you, making stockish power hurt the rear end of the GTO.

You must have done some major wheel hoppy burnouts, or some **** I don't know.

The rear ends don't just fall apart for no reason. I mean damn, look at how I abuse mine.....

It has a slight whine after major track abuse in 6th gear on the highway, but the other 95% of the time it is dead quiet.

HI sara :D

o hai Z of the Girlie. ;)

I don't mean to stir the pot anymore, but honestly I was questioning the same thing.

Usually losing a rear end is a very hard thing to accomplish. I mean, if you put enough diff fluid and used the right kind, I don't understand how you could have messed it up. Your car isn't even that old at all, and these problems are rampant in older cars with tons of wear and tear.

Plus, don't you, personally, usually race from a roll (just going by what I read on IA)? Usually the majority of people who replace their rear end or have problems are constant, heavy launchers. I'm talking, at the drag strip every weekend, doing it over and over for hours at a time. :dunno: And like some people mentioned, your gears are stock... it just seems like some pretty serious damage for some not-at-all-serious conditions. :(

Sounds kinda sketchy, but if this really happened in the middle of your apartment complex with no real warning, I would definitely have it checked out. The only thing I can think of, if you did replace the fluid correctly, is that the person who owned that car before you, beat on that goat like it owed him money (or like a lonely farmer looking for some lovin'!).

Either way, glad to hear you got a cheap fix that quickly! They are be a *****, cost wise, to replace.

Sounds to me like he let the wrong people touch the car previously when he had work done on it.

Either way.... this is a perfect opportunity to upgrade so it doesn't happen in the future. If you can't even afford to pay the 600$ more it would cost to get gears, then you don't really have any business owning a $30,000 car in the first place. :goodjob:
