View Full Version : 90 Civic - Main Relay Swap
Can anyone give me some instructions on how to swap the main relay in a 90 Civic? My girlfriend's car is still being tempermental when starting and I've heard that this is a common problem.
Okay, so I went by the ricer pitstop (Pep Boys) and they have two "Main Relays" on file. I got a picture of each. Which one am I looking for?
Switch 1 - Smaller, no rubber casing.
Switch 2 - Larger, rubber casing, mounting bracket.

thats not either of them
Where are you located, i can fixi t.
The main relay is held in by a 10mm under the driver side of the dashboard. youll have to get on your back to find it, its around the hood release latch.
Its a ***** to get out, you need a 10mm gear wrench.
Its a black box that says MITSUBA on it.
YOu can get a replacement used for around $20, i think at the dealer its like $40.
Dont buy from Pep boys

Also, if her car is having trouble starting, bang on the dash by your leg, it will usually get it to start

Did some looking around and it sounds like I need part RZ-0063. Thanks guys. Hopefully this'll be a quick fix. :)
Swapped the relay last night. Took about 10 minutes.
1) Remove coin holder / ashtray.
2) Use flathead screwdriver to free zip-tie on wires.
3) Use 10mm ratchet-wrench to undo bracket on relay.
4) Pull relay out through the coin-holder space and swap.
5) Replace and remount relay.
Done.
Car seems to be working better now. I cranked it up here and there over about a 30 minute span. Time will tell.
