First Bike Recommendations?

Thinking about getting a bike to offset fuel costs in the Mustang.

Looking at cheap and used. Preferrably under the $2000 mark. Any suggestions for something inexpensive but fun? It doesn't need to be fast as I won't be "stunting" or racing anyone but I'd still like it to be spirited. :)

It's got a small er engine (500cc). Not considered a street bike. Single cylinder with plenty of torque. Perfectly balanced. 79MPG city 82MPG HWY.

Yes, I would check with your insirance company first. It has the traditional motorcycle look, nothing to impress anybody. I really considered one a few months ago. MSRP is $4500. It's supposed to be more economic than the ninja 250r...

250R, im about to buy one for my girlfriend. Seems to be the Street bike for dummies.

Im thinking about picking up a 98 or 99 YZf for my first bike.

Get something 600cc or smaller IMO, itll be fast enough. Get something easy to work on and sub $3000 , no sense in laying down a expensive bike

I have owned a 06 Cbr 600 RR. I would recommend something smaller for your first bike.

Don't be a Vagina. It's all about the street cred. Real men ride Litres and Busas. And no chick is going to bang a guy who rides less than a 1000cc bike. Also gear just weighs you down and won't let the ladies see your generic one of a kind barbwire arm tattoo.

The Buell Blast is a great bike. A little tiny yes but not too bad. Your first bike needs to be tiny. Trust me you'll thank me when you about stall it out at a redlight with a car load of jailbait next to you (Which I did 3 weeks ago and about fell over and I'm sure I will do again eventually). Now Buells do have a reputation for not being as dependable as your Jap 4 since it is owned by Harley. But they have improved greatly in the past years and the Buell Blast is tame enough to not run into many problems. Ride it for a year and if you manage to not have any crashes then you could consider upgrading to a 600cc sportbike.

I recommend my first bike which was a 1994 Yamaha XJ600 (SecaII). Not so popular here in the states but in Europe it was. Infact it got knicknamed the "Swiss Army Bike" because it could do it all and do it well.

The most bike I would ever recommend to a newbie is a 02 below Suzuki SV650s. Because they are carbed they have a lot of low end grunt. Your newer Fuel Injected ones aren't that bad but trust me still very fun. But the 02 would be a good one since you can pick them up between 2500-3500 all day long in great shape and low miles.

It did tell me all I needed to know. That the 2002-2003 models did have some problems that were either hit or miss. It was only in the early years that the Blast experienced really bad issues.

Honda Rebels are great bikes. If you take the MSF Honda course in Alpharetta you'll ride a rebel.

I would HIGHLY RECCOMEND USE THE $1800 CASH and put as a down payment for the newly designed 08 Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Price new is only $3,499. ALSO the new ninja gets 61 MPG.

If not then I would look for a used Ninja 250 they are reccommended #1 beginner bikes.

I must say I own an 08 and its quick and fun. Its great for beginners and will keep you interested in twisties and city riding many years to come. Top speed on an 08 depends on weight but I weight 190 pounds and I had it up to 106 MPH which is fast enough.

I've got an 02 buell blast.. just got it...

i think for rans height it's a bit too small.. i'm only 5-8 and it fits me perfectly... ran is over 6ft.. there is no way he could be comfortable..

BUT for anyone under 200 lbs and under 6ft.. its a great starter bike.. parts are rather inexpensive to replace... and it's got plenty of power for a beginner...

i love mine so far...

and from what i read the blast is 69mpg.. not 79.... (unless the newer models are even more efficient..)

I wasn't being Sarcastic. Think Valentino Rossi ever got any ass racing a wimpy 500cc??? Just kidding. I'd kill for one of those smokers.

Now something that is funny is talk to someone with a 929 or a 954. They've told me when people ask them what they ride and they say a Honda 954 or whatever. People will say "Why didn't you just get a litre bike?". Too freaking funny.
