Ok here's where I'm at. I have a 360 and I want to add a PS3 to the line up because unfortunately PS3 does have titles that I want that are exclusive (MGS, GT, etc.) So what I'm looking for is thoughts and opinoins on what you like dislike about your console and what the best way to get one is. I'm not entirely sure whether to get a 60 or 80 gig at this point because I don't know how important backwards compatibility is to me as of yet. Anyways just chime in.

Lets see, I've had my ps3 for about a year and a half now.

-0 problems
-Blu Ray = pwn
-games in 1080p = pwn

Theres really nothing I dislike about it. I suppose the price back when I got it was pretty big. But it was worth it, imo. I haven't regretted it at all. Backwards compatibility doesn't mean **** to me, so I'd just get the MGS4 80gb Bundle if I were buying one right now.

I guess what I really need to do is go back and see how many PS2 games I actually liked and would still want to play. I'm definitely not looking to buy brand new though. I got my 360 for $200 last year. How do you like the browser? As far as voice comm's does sony have some kind of headset you have to buy or do you just use the bluetooth piece for like your phone?

Unless you want backwards compatibility snag a 40gb on ebay for cheap, if you need more space the hard drive is easy to upgrade.

Ive hooked up my wireless kb&mouse but the browser isnt very useful imo.

its a pretty cool system, i've owned 2 360 and now i have a ps3.

the ps3 has more...how do i say this...stuff? has the internent, plays blu-ray, and is more advance than a 360. But, I loved LIVE more than the ps3 version alot more. But, the ps3 online play is free. One thing i really hate about the ps3 is that you can't listen your music while playing videogames like the 360...listening to gay elevator music on gt is really gay, lol.

all in all, its a great and power system. Worlds quieter then the 360. You won't be dissapointed in this purchase. I wasn't.

my big thing on backwards compatibility is i would love to go back and buy all the old MGS games and GT4 A-Spec or whatever it was but the damn 80 or 60 gigs for that matter even used are so damn expensive.

Any games that you guys reccomend that I can't get on 360?

ive owned both.

Again this has been covered alot but ill say it again.

GAMING wise, the 360 has more titles, more software development, RIGHT NOW.

The PS3 IMO is definetly better in the graphics department. But its hard to find those games because there are so many crossover titles that dont take advantage of it.

The big argument is the 360 has the games, the ps3 has the hardware. Well the problem is that MOST software developers decided to stick with the 360 because they were writing software to it for a year before ps3 came out. From what i understand the PS3s software code is very complicated an complex, not as easy to use.

So what we get is games that are made to run on the 360 and look visually the same on the ps3. Game developers were exclusively designing the games for XBOX360 because it was king, and there were more of the systems in the country.

What is starting to happen now is that the game developers are wanting to make games that only the PS3 can support in terms of size and hardware. In the next 6 months to a year youll slowly start to see the Xbox phase out an the PS3 take over as more an more people start switching over.

The PS3 is the future, the 360 had its turn, but until the next XBOX comes out, IMO the 360 is all downhill from here. If they release Gears of War 2 on this version of the 360 i think they are making a huge mistake.

Metal Gear Solid 4 proved that the PS3 is WAY ahead in the graphics and hardware arena over 360. Problem is that game came out over a year after PS3 debuted. Just sit back though because Soul Caliber 4, Killzone 2, and others are on their way.

So in closing, i think the PS3 is the system to buy if you are looking to the future of gaming. It will be around for along time where i think the 360s days are done. (especially since HDDVD is dead)

Thanks Mike. I am pretty much just in the last year am getting back into gaming and I've had my 360 for almost a year. It's a great system but I'm too much of a MGS and Gran Turismo fan to limit myself to the 360. I'm cruising ebay right now for some deals on some 60 gigs. Seems like the theme is though that the blue ray drives go bad?

The PS3 is clearly better for the future, more titles are coming that are exclusive.

Important news just released too...

All games that are on both consoles used to be made on the Xbox 360 and then formatted over, hence the PS3 version taking longer and having choppy graphics. They are now utilizing the PS3 technology now since the cell processor is more advanced and making all games on the PS3 FIRST and then formatting to Xbox 360.

In short this means much better graphics for PS3 games now on multiplatform games.

^^Cool. Well I think I have pretty much settled on a used 60 gig just waiting for the right deal to come along.

Two Questoins.

1. As far as voice chat and stuff what kind of head set do you have to get? Since it's bluetooth can I just use the one I use for my phone.

2. What titles would you guys reccomend getting that arent multiplatform. MGS4 and GT5 Prologue are already on my list of games to get.

yeah getting a PS3 is definately worth it. ive played my friends for quite a while and he has never had a problem with it and he got it right after it came out. also theres no over heating issues with the PS3 like there is the 360. i say get the 80gb cause in the long run its going to be better. you wont have to worry about space on your hard drive as games come out like you do with the 360 20gb

I bought my PS3 for the Blu-Ray - (the 40gig was cheaper than a blu-ray only player).
Games in 1080p are freakin awesome - only down side is I would like the backwards compatibility, but if you don't care then it is well worth the money

In game XMB, trophies system, and listen to your own music while playing game will be available after update to firmware 2.40. This firmware was already out, but due to bugs, they pulled it back out and working on it. It will be out again soon.

PS3 FTMFW! Bluray FTW, Built in WiFi FTW, Games may take longer to release but they are written in BLuRay Format, oh and more titles are about to drop this fall! also I've had my 60gb for over a year now and no problems, oh and to add to it you don't have to pay for a PSN account unlike Xbox... and the Dual Shock 3 Controller w/ Six Axxis is awesome...

I'm not entirely sure whether to get a 60 or 80 gig at this point because I don't know how important backwards compatibility is to me as of yet. Anyways just chime in.60GB - SOME Titles are backwards compatible, but not all IIRC. It has a built-in chip for BW capatibility and can cause older games to skip and shake during gameplay. Not sure if the 60Gb has an upscaler for older titles or not.

80GB - 100% BW Compatible w/ Updates. Download the latest updates via PS Online or DL them onto a flashdrive then upload onto your PS3 via the instructions availabled on the official website. Takes about 10 minutes. Also, the 80GB has a built-in upscaler to make your older games run smoother and look prettier. It's a very noticeable difference on some titles (.hack//G.U. for example). Good luck finding one though. Your best bet would be via Gamestop's official website. I found one in Georgia (Marietta) and picked it up immediately because other people were calling for it too.

I've had my 80GB for a few months now and have 0 complaints with PS, PS2, or PS3 titles. :goodjob:

ii got 360 when it launched, and it has been a gret system minus the hardware faults, but as far as software it amazing........then i bought a PS3 with cod4 , the game was good as expected but i just hated the online system compare to live......and as someone that buys 99% of his games to play only online...this is a big thing to me,but now that the new Socom is coming out ill have to grab a PS3 just for that game, since Socom has always had its stuff together in the online department

read all the ps3 forums.. you dont benefit with the 80gb for anything. if you want more size and upgrade the hdd. which is easy and roughly 100 for a 160gb

http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/

there is a link to the forums just read around it search it.

Uhh, are you sure you did not get your info mixed up? As far as I know 60gb is about 99% BC while 80GB is about 80-85% BC, but not the other way around. You are right about 60Gb using chip and 80GB using software emulator. Sony promised that they will constantly working on BC for 80GB but who know if they will deliver (like M$). 60GB does have upscale and smooth out option.

To the OP, if you care a lot about BC then either get your hand on 60GB or 80GB, but not 40GB. 60 is best, but hard to find nowaday. And if you don't care about BC, chrome bezel around dvd slot, and no memory cards slot, then get 40gb.

From what I've gathered, the 60GB hardware emulator is average at best and has issues with gameplay on titles. The 80GB is almost completely BW compatible at this point aside from some obscure titles. It's been receiving updates to correct even those with most upgrade releases. Sorry for the "100%" statement earlier, I was generalizing.

Picked up a new MGS 80GB PS3 bundle at gamestop for a little less than $150(theres a process to it)

I'm pretty stoked right now
