This time, No dirt roads, paved parking, and grills for a small nominal entry fee. (like $4.00 or less. Ft Yargo charges a day use fee)

This will be our second, all Japanese, Old Skool meet this summer. We plan on getting things started, at 3:00, at Fort Yargo park, on Saturday, August 16. I'm going to try to reserve a picnic pavillion for shelter, and cooking out.

At this event, we are going to try to do some really nice photos, and document the Old Skool cars out and about in our area. Also we want to discuss getting together some O/S cars to hit Nopi and tunerfest in September.

So get your brakes fixed, rebuild your carb, and get a tag for your ride if it's not ready We have a month and a half to get our rides on the road. Lets make it BIG. I can see 70 cars at this one, if everyone from the last meet comes out!

Hope to see you there! Dave

and I should be out there reppin Datsun crew. My wagon has working brakes, might take it out tonight to BP... needs some rust repair and paint but overall its very very solid just some minor rust issues (one door bottom, tiny bit on rockers, fixable hole in floorboard by accel pedal)

i think i am just getting the L18 from the shag wagon and putting it in the 4door and just leaving it with that. Prob going to have the shag wagon as a daily for a while until I can find another car . Guy still hasn't picked up the maxima.. soon i'm gonna send his money back minus the good non refundable deposit i have for my time :)

Yeah, NAPI, I agree, I haven't been since 2003, but we need to show up with a bunch of O/S cars to some kind of a mainstream event. So, no Tunerfest this year? I went last year and it was pretty cool. About 10 O/s cars were there.
Did you get that roof rack yet?

Big_Dave
07-05-2008, 06:03 PM
I just checked the Atlanta Dragway schedule, and it has a Midnight madness tunerfest shootout listed for September, 9, but maybe that's not it. There was no information about it.

About the food...Bring what you want to eat, or bring hotdogs, hamburger meat, chips or something to throw in, and I'm sure we can get the food cooked. I don't mind cooking, but there is no way to know how many people are coming, and how much food we need. If, you don't have the cash to pitch in on some grub, I don't think you would go home hungry.

It's a pretty big place, but we will make it easy for everyone to meet up. A few of us Ol'skoolers are gonna ride out Saturday and check out the Gwinett/Athens area meet. It should be pretty big. This way we can see the place in action. Any one that wants to ride out with us on saturday july 26th meet at our shop around 4:00 pm. PM me if you need directions to the shop,. It's in Auburn, about a 8 mile ride to Ft. Yargo.

After we go and visit the park this weekend I'll know more about directions inside the park. I'm reserving a picnic shelter in case it's raining, or it's just brutally hot. I'll post up what I find out.

"A few of us Ol'skoolers are gonna ride out Saturday, and check out the Gwinett/Athens area meet. It should be pretty big"......Wow! alot of talk on the thread, and at 5:30 only like 6 cars were there. But, we rolled in with like 15 cars, and got our grill on. The weather might not have been great, and the Athens people were not the friendliest bunch, but it turned out to be a really fun afternoon. The best part was the drive from the shop through downtown Winder. 15 OG cars riding in a line through traffic. FTW. And Franco bustin' a sick drift across a busy intersection in a AE86!

Thanks David, Ken, Brandi, and Shane for helping out at the shop, and driving all the way from Paulding county! Thanks, Altimacharlie, for bringing that coolass B210 all the way from Mableton. Thanks, Ashley and Aden, for bringing the celicas out, and taking the photos. Thanks, to Chava, for bringing out the whole Rx 7 rotory crew (the 7's were out in #'s today) And last, but not least ,thanks to JR, for bringing out the Gainesville guys. Oh, Yeah...Thanks Will for representig Dekalb Co. and for wearing the only ZERO T-shirt!!! Good looking out!

This was a stong showing for just a few days notice. About 3 weeks to go for the next Old Skool Meet. SATURDAY, AUGUST, 16 3:00pm. I'll post directions for where to go inside Ft Yargo. As soon as we decide which part of the park we are going to meet in.

Thanks again, for supporting the Atlanta area old skool Japanese car scene. See y'all in a few weeks.

Dave Wilson.

For real dude, I'm thinking about the 710, the 74 corona Mark II, or the 1980 200 sx, but i can't decide wich car should get done like this. Either way the 77 celica is getting a set of victory pipes like these!(the red and silver car) Check out the Ka'razy pipes llooking down that line of cars. I really dig the early 70's corona in the green and black. Stock those are some of the ugliest cars around.

The Starions are un-reliable but the Conquests, now there is a reliable car.

Actually the regular stuff isn't why it's not running, I have a cracked cylinder wall on a freshly rebuilt motor. Kinda pissed me off so bad, i haven't messed with it since. Had it all ready for the Import show down and it blew while driving it to work trying to break it in. It had about 50 miles on the new build. Should've had it magnafluxed.

This meet looks like it's going to be really big. An Old skool Rx 7 club is moving their meet to coincide with the meet at Ft. Yargo. They have people coming from Virginia, North carolina and such. I've met at least 15 more people in old Jap cars and told them about the meet. I'm going to start calling people not on IA this week to try and get the # of cars up. On www.japanesenostalgiccar.com a thread in the forum is talking about the posibility of a large East coast Old Skool meet. We have a good chance to grow this into something big.

Sorry, guys, the Z wont be there, this time, she will be ready for the next one though, im just waiting on parts i ordered. Shes almost together now. Its a good thing i went ahead and started this restoration, I found a few problems with the motor, Like a vaccum hose broke off that goes to the throttle body, I had the wrong header gasket on, and the injectors didnt seat right, so i had 2 destroyed O-rings. SATURDAY OCTOBER 4TH IS THE NEXT MEET!!! We may continue to have it at Ft. Yargo, but like always, any suggestions will be considered.

Stormhammer
08-18-2008, 12:59 AM
I honestly think we should give Year One a try. It's a big parking lot, and I'm pretty sure the manager would be open to the idea. Since it'd be October it will have cooled down somewhat.

I just foresee parking as an issue at Ft. Yargo meets. Especially if this gains more and more momentum and gets larger.

Also, since Y1 has a large parking lot, I wonder what it would take to hold a small autocross? ( they've held them there before )

... and I think you meant October 4th, NOT August 4th.

Also, I'm thinking since SQC's fall meet got cancelled due to no Fall Import Showdown, I might try to make this an SQC fall get together.

We just need more parking :ninja:

pure insanity

Big_Dave
08-19-2008, 12:42 AM
The only problem with Year one to me is it is just a large parking lot out in the sun. I think somewhere with some trees and a place to grill out and spend some time with people that care for these cars. I think Ft Yargo could fit the bill if we arrange to have the picnic pavilloin. Parking would then go all the way around the corner, and maybe go ahead and rent the two campsites up near the playground. At this point we could use some volunteers to try and help park cars, and we could put up some signage for spectating parking and signage for the O/S cars. We would have a whole lot of additional parking with a little bit of organization. ***Oh Yeah, October the 4th is Petit Lemans at Road Atlanta...Probably not the best date for our show....Would September 27 be too soon, or October 25...Chime in about the dates. If it matters to you.

Stormhammer
08-19-2008, 01:01 AM
Bring pop up tent covers and grills :D

Don't get me wrong, I like Ft. Yargo as well, but I just think that the venue is somewhat small ( even if we get a pavilion ) but those you have to RSVP for, and then hope the count is accurate. I sort of felt like I was invading other people's time there since we parked amongst a bunch of other parked cars that were just there with their families ( and were also passing through ). Why not hit up Lake Lanier again?

http://lanier.sam.usace.army.mil/shelters/ShelterInformation.htm

You got picnic areas/pavilions in multiple areas, and looking at the maps there's lots of parking :bump:

That way you wont have to also change dates since we won't be anywhere near the Petit LeMans either.

In fact, some place like Thompson Creek would be cool ( though it seems to be on the 400 side of Lanier )

Big_Dave
08-19-2008, 02:28 AM
I'm with you for some of the parks on Lake Lanier, But I've heard people fussing about the drive to Lake Lanier. I don't think it's any further from Atlanta, to some of the lake parks, but for Athens area and Conyers It's like 25 or 30 morre miles. I'm down for Lake Lanier, I live closer to Lake Lanier than to Ft. Yargo. Any suggestions out there?
Regarding Petit Lemans, I wasn't worried about being near the Petit venue, I was worried about losing people like me to the race. I'm going to Petit Lemans. It's an awesome race, and an awesome party....No meet during Petit! Unless it is at Road Atlanta.

Stormhammer

25 to 30 miles is nothing. Those people can suck it up. Twice a year I drive 130 miles one way to a small meet, that usually involves an additional 30 miles of driving together before driving all that mileage back. I can understand trying to be a convenience to everyone, but that just won't happen. You have meets where people travel farther than 30 miles just for an afternoon.

http://lanier.sam.usace.army.mil/ParkRecreationMap.htm

Map has locations of all park areas.

yeah people can suck it up, it's worth it for a properly organized meet. I drove over 100 miles each way for Saturday's meet without an O/S car to show haha, I know we can keep numbers wherever we go :)

I Think y'all are correct. That we'll keep our #'s up regardless. Let's look into the parks along the southside of Lake Lanier. Some parks like Old Federal and Snug harbor have some awesome scenery. If anyone wants to get a few cars together and go scout out a few of these parks PM me. Maybe like on a a Saturday afternoon.

^^ I say places like 12, 15, and 83 are good places to check out. 12 and 15 are more off of 985 and 83 is across from where we had the first one ( but has a huge parking lot, didn't see anything about shelters/grill though )

I think Lanier park looks like a good place by description, it has shelters, grills, boat ramps, etc. As far as the week after Petit, I know I'll be strapped for cash, and also alot of fall festivals will be going on in the mountains. I usually load up my son and ride to a few of the festivals, (In an Old Skool car) Like the Ellijay Apple Festival, or Dahlonegah Gold Rush. Ken, if your coming up Saturday, then maybe we'll ride out to some of the parks that Stormhammer suggested, and check them out.

We went to a few of the parks on the southside of Lake Lanier. For next year, Lanier Park will probably see some meets. It's got lots of room, but they will be closed by October. We found another park that has great parking and a pavillion and is on the lake. It's called Mary-Alice Park, and it's just off of Hwy 400 and SR 20 near Cumming. We'll likely hold the next event there; on October 25. If any one want to meet up, at Road Atlanta for Petit, post it up, maybe we can get something together there.

^^^X2. Find a old skool car in a backyard, drag it home, and get dirty with it. It's about the only way to have a truly unique, car that fits your taste and personality. To do a nice build on a car, the engine, suspension, some OG wheels, decent paint, and a clean interior, will set you back from $3000.00 to $10,000.00. This is for a clean, respectible, moderately quick O/S car. If you don't have an old Japanese car, and you are interested in finding one come out to the next meet in october and ask around, Most of us Old Skoolers always have projects sitting that we would like to see someone finish, or we know someone who has a project, or finished car, for sale. At the last meet at Ft. Yargo I heard the owner of the Badass rx3 price it for $18,000. and I bet it will run with any 4th Gen supra turbo in the 1/4 on the top end, and kick a** at an autocross event. By the way, did any one see that '74 corolla in super street mag. 2tg FI and turbo. What? It REALLY stinks, cause it's the sh*T.

What? It REALLY stinks, cause it's the sh*T.

he has both a classic CVCC and soon a Starion :D

That would beat Supras?? It was a cool car for sure. What suspension to be fast at autocross? What engine was in it I barely looked at it. It was bad ass though.

I enjoyed it...until the booters came!

They booted our Maxima and we paid. We started raisin' hell at the booter dude, and he didn't want to listen. Finally his partner, checked the box and found out we had paid. I guess they just saw how, clapped out looking, the Maxima was, and assumed it was an abandoned vehicle. Lol. (One of the downfalls of driving an old skool project)

So they booted w/o even checking their own box?

Some how, this doesn't surprise me! Dogs!

I think you're referring to mine? It's a sweet little corner on the Tail of the Dragon. I took 3 photos and combined the best I could into one using Paintbrush! lol

There are some very nice photo opportunities while on a trip up there...and there are some very good photographers that can take your pics while you're cruising through it (they just sit at various corners and snap away!).

Yeap, that corner is the one where the cops usually sit, right tucked away into a small access road out of camera frame.

www.killboy.com (http://www.killboy.com) is the main photographer up there. Super nice guy. That road is awesome but going up there in the summer is pretty much dead now. The Harley riders have ruined it, the massive amount of cops are also just stupid and the hunters that have been known to do some pretty heinous things like dumping 50 gallons of diesel fuel in Crud Corner and throwing bottle at you.

Best time to go now is the end of the season.

I've never heard that. That's nuts!

BTW, a few of us are planning a trip Oct 17-19...
