but a 350z is ranked 82...

The s2000 did run under wet conditions.... but the correction factor for that track seems to be about 4-5 seconds according to other sources on the net.

Might wanna check this out and get some info on that Monaro. Specs on the car are not the same as the GTO, only similar is the powerplant. Everything else is different: Suspension, Trans gearing, front fascia, etc.

The same goes for domestic owners that trash imports for being slow/weak (lack HP/TQ). Either car can be potent on the street, strip, or the track. It is all a matter of how the car is built. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. I would say that a true car enthusiast will respect a properly built car, regardless of whether its a domestic or import.

If your car was built specially for the strip, then I wouldn't expect it performance well on a road course. The same goes for any situation. Build a car for whatever purpose you want and enjoy it.

The monaro shares the same suspension specs, brake sizes, "trans gearing" and just about everything with the LS2 GTO aside from the body paneling and minor, MINOR interior details.

First off, wrong section jackass. Second off, who are you trying to convince that a GTO is actually a cool car? Us or yourself. I dont care if it has 400, 500, or even 600hp, its still ugly and reminds me of a fvcking oldsmobile or something. The interior is cheap and plasticy. Almost as cheesy as the 4th gen F-bodies... Yes it is a fast car, yes it handles decent, but it's the kind of car that every 45 year old trailer park living, keystone drinking, wife beatin' redneck dreams about. I am a big pontiac fan, and I like the 60's and early 70's GTO's, and have owned a few 60's and early 70's pontiac muscle cars, but I just couldn't see myself owning a new GTO unless they did a complete facelift. Pontiac took the easy route and just rebadged a car that another GM brand was already producing. They should have taken the time to design a car that had its roots in what the original GTO stood for. The RAM AIR IV GTO's were badass. However, they were two door cars, not four door. It was a purpose built straight line race car, not a heavy sedan. If pontiac wanted to attract more diehard classic GTO fans, they could do something like the new mustang, new charger, or the new camaro. I would rather see a retro style GTO than that ugly damn camaro Chevy's been promising for 5 years now. I'm not the biggest fan of the retro style cars, but the GTO would be a good candidate considering it was one of the most powerful muscle cars of its time.

You have a really difficult time with this whole idea of balance, don't you? The GTO (Actually, not the GTO either, since the Monaro is indeed mechanically different, starting with the fact that it's not restricted by american safety standards or emissions standards) is an incredibly well designed car for what it is. The Australians built it as an all-purpose runner. The new Pontiac G8 and specifically the G8 GT are excellent examples of this as well, as is the Ford Falcon. It will handle well, go fast, stop quick, and look intensely generic while doing so.

The Monaro can go around the TGTT fast? I bet I can explain why. The TGTT is filled with short barrel-run straights that allow a car with a lot of oomph to jump up in speed quickly, the faster that you can go through the straight, the more seconds you will take off your time. As long as the car is reasonably equipped and can bring itself back down to it's cornering speed quickly, you can make the turns easily and be right back on the throttle. Does this mean that the Monaro can make the turn faster than an S2k? No. Does this mean, overall, that the Monaro can sweep an S2k by 7 seconds on the track? Yes. If you knew half a cent about actual racing, and not just street-drag racing from light to light, you'd have a better idea of why the GTO is rated so much faster. It's simply a faster car. This is akin to comparing a Corvette with a V6 Mustang. Both might be base models, but they aren't going to compete the same, period.

Anyways, calling any of the new GM performance cars domestic (Besides the Corvette) is absolute idiocy. The Monaro/GTO and the G8 GT both came from Aussieland. The two new Saturns, the Astra and the Sky, both came from european and japanese ideas, as did the Solstice. The Turbo-Ecotec motor powering the high-end Solstice/Sky was Euro designed ages and ages ago and has been around forever. Hyundai is more a domestic brand than GM's current marques are. Our ideas of import and domestic obviously need to be readjusted a bit, thanks to Globalization. Hell, who would think that GM would be the company leading the way in turbo-four cylinder two-door sports coupes with the Solstice and the Sky? Now we're looking at having the Genesis Coupe, the possibility of a new Nissan successor to the Silvia/S-body series, the Toyobaru, a re-thinking of the Miata line, and maybe even Ford and Chrysler will get on the band wagon.

Not to bash or anything but he does have somewhat of a point. The new V6 Eclipse's made 270ishp hp with a 3.8L V6. I still don't think that those are great numbers for that size of a motor but eh. Just food for thought.

My GTO is 371 rwhp, with intake / exhaust.

My camaro makes around 525-550 hp at the motor on motor... with the stock heads. It's shortblock is built to take a god awful ammount of abuse which will be tested. :lmfao:

The main reason why most people hate on american cars is basicly due to their power/weight and power to displacement ratio. Most other vehicles that same weight would run a better time with less power and a smaller engine. But GM is getting way better and more competitive. Here's a great example. How is it that a car weighing 31xx lbs making 505 hp loose by a little over 1/2 second to a car that advertises making 480 hp and weighing 39xx lbs on buttonwillow raceway? Not a very well sorted chassis, if you ask me. GM has definately improved and yes I'd own a ZO6.

I really wish you would learn to stop selectively reading only the tidbits of information in a post that you wish to use to make yourself appear superior to others. Instead if you read the entire post, and learned how to make contextual connections with other posts, you might come off sounding like you had a f'ing clue what you were talking about. We weren't discussing who would win, we were discussing the efficiency of the engine. The comment was made that 330hp out of 6 liters was rather low. You said you made 371. Red GT said that the new GTs with a wimpy tune made 271hp on 3.8l. You still said you were better. I showed you that a Honda with a tiny turbocharge that would produce little to no lag could produce a HP/Liter efficiency that would smash your 6 liters into tiny coke-can bottles.

If I had wanted to remark on the ability to win races, I would obviously have to factor in some other variables, such as weight (The S2k weighs considerably less than the GTO) drivetrain (the S2k produces very little drivetrain loss, and has an excellently geared engine for track racing) and driver skill (The S2k is a much easier car to learn how to drive, is very forgiving and does not tend to brutalize the driver's mistakes as quickly.) In a Head's-up track race on any given track, I would say that your GTO and the example S2k I gave would produce a decent race, and that depending on the combination of straights and turns, you would have a fair chance of winning. A track like Road Atlanta tends to favor cars like the GTO with good power that can easily gain speed on the straights. A track like Sebring's Club Course would be quite difficult due to the flat, tight turns that are narrow and easy to overshoot. The GTO is a fast car, but pushrod V8's are anything but power-efficienct for their displacement. A car with the HP/liter ratio of my mildly boosted S2k example with 6 Liters would be producing 810hp. Obviously achievable for the GTO, but not with a small turbocharger. Instead some significant adjustments would be required to produce such power.

Ok so since your so hung up on American cars let me also add this

It take a 6L LSX GTO to make 360hp/350ft-lb of torque

Where as it takes a 4.6L Mustang to make 300hp/320 ft-lb of torque

Now answer this since you know everything what the hell is the GTO doing with what is basically the equivallent of a d15 engine. It sure as hell isn't making much more power with all the extra displacement it has over the mustang. **** for the HP and displacement difference you could buy a mustang and a crx and still have more combined horsepower than a GTO
