Well here the story goes, I just got a new computer and my goal is to keep spyware and pop ups off of it. I don't go to any stupid sites, www.collegehumor.com, www.entensity.net, or www.alldumb.com or any porn, I don't download any games/videos/music and I am really trying to keep this computer easy to use for school, work, games I buy and other stuff.

I had a laptop that I used for all that other stupid crap, yet it seemed to have a crap load of spy ware and just recently took a dump.

Now here is where it gets tricky...At work the only thing I downloaded was AIM and I kept getting really bad pop ups, I don't know what it was from but it was a lot of the party poker stuff and stop spyware now. I also had it on my laptop and couldn't get rid of it for my life.

I want to download AIM to use on my new computer to talk to people, but I don't want to do it if it's going to give me viruses and shit. Does anyone else have any problems with Pop ups and think AIM is doing it, or am I just being paranoid?

I think AIM always has that little popup that comes up with AOL news and all that crap... or atleast mine does. Best bet is to just use firefox (much more secure than IE) and run a spy sweeper often.

never had any problems when i used AIM except it crashing sometimes. just get Trillian. Its safer and u dont have to worry about pop-ups. and get a firefox browser. cuts down on lots of the internet BS trojans n such

I had firefox on my lap top...but IE hasn't been any problems for me yet on my desktop so no worries.

i use mozilla instead of explorer...much less prone to spyware and pop ups, i also use trillian instead of AIM...no norton, no spysweeper or whatever....just the windows security crap that comes with windows...

still gotta stay away from the crazy-bad sites but i've yet to have a pop up or random tool bar added like i've had in the past...

and Trillian is a messenger that combines yahoo, aim, msn, and ICQ. sou can use all your programs at once.

aim and aol are both viruses...every computer i have ever had aol on has crashed and aim is just a branch of aol so i am sure it carries over

Later versions of aim i noticed are pretty shitty and have those problems you talk about. I still use aim 5.2 works great!
