at 140mph you are travelling a mile every 25 seconds or so. By the time the cop turned around you would be a mile ahead of him. I say keep on going.

its really a judgment call. depends on the driver skill/awareness and ability to know how to make a good decision at the right moment. i've passed a cop going around that speed and i've taken off before... and got away.. another time, i was doing a little over a hundred, took my chances again and took off but got caught up into some traffic. instead of being a reckless careless ***** and overtaking on the shoulder, i opted to slow down and be safe.. at which time the cop finally caught up a minute or 2 later... and inevitably gave me a ticket. better to be safe than sorry.

all in all.. its all depends on the situation, the driver, and his ability to make the right decisions and be able to carry it out.

Agreeing with the above, also consider if it is day or night. If a cop is coming opposite direction as you, or sitting still radaring. If its night, and you pass him at 140, theres almost no way he knows what make/model you are in. He just knows that someone just passed him going balls fast. So, if he deciedes to chase you, and you're doing a mile in 25 seconds, then he has to go at least 160, and by my rough math, it'll take him 6 minutes to close a mile gap between you. Thats a long time. No to mention he won't be able to see your tailights by then. And thats assuming his car will go that fast and he has the balls to do it. (Cops are still people with families to go home to) I would either pull to the next exit, or if i passed a car, slow down and pace him. The cop probably won't know which of you was the one he radared. If he does guess right, then he deserves the 10 million dollars you're about to give the county. Give him congrats on a nice catch and enjoy your night in jail getting butt raped. But 140= stupid if not on a track somewhere. Plus with the drag created by sustaining 140 mph, you're probably going to run out of gas in the next 5 seconds. :goodjob:

Depends on where you are at. Ive had a friend run from them coming home from AL on 20, he was screwed to begin with there is no where to hide.

Ive ran from a fe Ga police on my bike, but i was in ATL plenty of places to hide at, so just depends on surroundings!!!

on another note, there's a pretty good chance that most cop cars won't even do 140. A stock police interceptor crown vic tops out around 130. Considering the way most cops treat their cars, chances are that many of them won't do over 120. One of my friend's dad owns an oil change shop and changes the oil in all teh cop cars in our area. Even though all they have to do is bring the car in (on the clock I might add), most of them are 10-15k miles over each time. The engines tick and make noise, all the belts squeak...

Even the GSP charger would have a problem catching up to you if you pass them at 140.

Maybe incase they are drafting the car they are chasing while driving downhill... A 99-04 mustang GT will barely do 140, and it has the engine the PI crown vic has. The crown vic is heavier and less aerodynamic I'm sure.

I searched a few vids on youtube of PI crown vics. There is one 2003 model trying to top out. After 120 it accelerates about like a civic. It took like 20 seconds to get from 125 to 130, which is where it sat. The person who posted the vid claimed that this was not the top speed. He's probably right... another 10 minutes or so and it may have got 135.

My brother's GT is completely stock, 2003 model. When he first got it (it had 15k miles on it), I drove it down I-75 south of forsyth. It is relatively flat through there. Getting to 125 or so was pretty quick. After that, it took a very long time to gain speed. At 140mph it was gaining 1mph every mile or so. Maybe if I would have stayed in it for another 10 minutes it may have gotten to 150, but I doubt it.

you are so full of ****. Maybe down a hill or something. A stock non-S/C cobra (2001) will only 155. Again, I have ridden with my brother in law in his cobra and in stock form it would only do 155ish. Since he got it he's added a few things, (intake, headers, xpipe, exhaust, programmer, ring and pinion kit, and a few other things) and now it will run 165-170 completely topped out. I used to work at a car lot. The owner's son and I were good friends, and he had a thing for mustangs. He must have had 10 or more mustangs through highschool and early college before he outgrew cars. I have driven pretty much every mustang model worth driving, and the only one that could possibly do over 155 mechanically stock is a chipped 03-04 cobra with the speed limiter removed.

does it have a 350? The last of the 3rd gens with 350's had 245hp and 345 torque. 15 less hp than a 99-04 Mustang GT, but 45 more torque. The 99 GT weighs around 3700lbs with an automatic (3650 manual), where as the 3rd gen camaro Z28 weighs in around 3195lbs for the coupe. All in all, if you remove all the smog equipment from the 3rd gen F bodies, they will run with a 99-04 GT all day.

I would say that ford does more cost cutting on the interiors. The interior's of the mustang was the same from 1994-2004, with minor changes in the seat patterns throughout the years. The interior is just as cheap and plasticy as and chevy.

Thats why I quit buying domestic cars and started buying european and american built japanese brands (nissan).

Another thing that made me start to stay away from american brands is that american made cars have a relatively low power output to engine displacement ratio thancompared to most european and japanese brands. A mustang GT makes 300hp from 4.6L, where a G37 makes 330hp from 3.7L. A cobalt makes 145hp from a 2.2L, where as a Civic Si makes 200hp from a 2.0L. I mean yes there are a few exceptions, but most use forced induction to break the 100hp/liter mark (new ZR1, Cadillac STS-V, and Ford GT for example)

Are you agreeing with me or what? Yes the base cobalt makes 145hp out of 2.2L, and the non Si civic makes 140 out of a 1.8L, which is 20% less displacement than the cobalt with only about 3.5% less power. The SS is supercharged, which goes along with what I was saying about domestics needing forced induction to approach the 100hp/liter mark.

depends on whether its just a county sherriff or GSP.

county sheriff - keep going. he probably wont even think about putting his car in drive anyway. he'll just wait for the next person driving 15 over & give THEM a ticket.

gsp - pull over the second i spot him. no matter if he pulls out, puts his lights on or what. gsp will chase you until you either pull over or you get into a wreck & kill yourself.

This one time, my friend took his Lamborghini Gallardo and was doing laps around 285 at like, 3 in the afternoon, honking at GSP cars and stuff, and was so fast that when he turned off on 400, lightning struck the back of the car and the tires exploded into flames and he showed up the night his parents concieved him. Turns out his Gallardo's flux-coil capacitor had overheated from all the driving in circles.

A few days ago me and a friend were doing 140 in his mercedes. If we would have seen a cop we would have kept going.

Driving at 140-160 is somewhat scary though. Cars come up on you so fast and a fast lane change at 160? Haha **** that your ass is wrecking if you try that.

But if i was doing 140 and passed a cop i would keep going. I wouldnt be doing that in the day light in the first place with a bunch of traffic around.

As soon as I saw the cop car and seen him turn on his lights/pull out and try to catch me he would already be far behind and there is no ****ing way he would catch me. I'd hit the next exit then immediately turn around and get back on the interstate heading the other way and wave to the cop as i passed him.

All that is assuming the cop car was not one of those camaro cop cars. Those things are scary fast!

LOL all these stories remind me of the night that i buried the speedo in my acura legend sedan. I was a complete idiot at 19 but it was heavy, low, and i had a 75 shot of nitrous on it. Im not sure what my actual speed was because ive never done the math based on the gear ratios and rpm's but I was past 140 and well into the odometer. I loved that honda 3.2 it was so smooth and just kept on pulling.

lol your crazy as hell ron

i'd stop. evos arent real cars, slow pieces of junk. it's only real if you've got a mullet and can drive in a straight line.

LOL!!!! Ed your stupid

hypothetically speaking, your driving down an empty highway, in an 03 evo, and you zip passed a cop at 140mph.

What do you do?

Saw this debate on another forum. Just curious as to some answers here.

**stock 03 evo tops out @ 160mph @ 7k rpm pretty decent. turbocharged cars top out alot easier then NA cars. Tuned evos with extended redlines can probably top out more. If you've done it once, just don't ever do it again. All aspects are considered such as your tires speed rating and what kind of car you have. Of course evo's are built to handle it; any non performance factory built car = BIG RISK! It's common sense to upgrade your handling as your power increases.

If i was doin 140 passing a cop..Find a spot to chill or take a different detour home. If you've got a spare set of night vision goggles; use them and turn off your lights and get off the nearest exit and go the opposite direction of the highway. hahaha doubt anyone rides with night vision.

Who buys a Mustang and keeps it stock?

And they top out at 155 stock.
I DIDNT READ PAST THIS REPLY BUT YOU SIR ARE A DUCHE NOZZLE, THE TOPIC ISNT ONE OF YOUR MUSTANGS THAT YOU DONT HAVE ANYMORE. THE TOPIC IS WOULD YOU RUN FROM A COP DRIVING A PI CROWN VIC IF YOU PASSED HIM AT 140MPH, AND AS FAR AS I KNOW THE POLICE DONT DO **** TO THEM THEY ARE HEAVY AND I KNOW THEY ARE LESS AERODYNAMIC THEN A MUSTANG. SO PLEASE DONT TALK ANYMORE.

lol at the mack cv713

depends on the situation. i have done the keep going and pull off routine before coming back from pensacola, thank goodness for 3am and lower alabama traffic. he turned around but i got off at the next exit, 2 miles, pulled off the highway and sat up there and watched the cop ride by, then i followed him!!!

I've gone that fast (with me driving) once. My friend and I were late coming back from alabama and we saw a hot ass chick in a CTS-V. It was about 11pm and we still had a good hour and a half to go, but I had to be home by 12 at the latest. Conviently, this chick was hauling ass, so we just followed her. Keeping in mind, we are in my 97 GST with just a gutted cat, we stayed with her @ 90+ untill we got to the curves and she hauled ass on us. The plan was to keep going if a cop pulled out...

another time coming home from ATL, we were cruising at about 90mph along with the traffic, and a GSP in his SRT8 was chillin in the median radaring us. Black cop car at night ftmfl. LOL. He didn't pull out as traffic was pretty thick :ninja:

I was more or less referring to 90mph being the slowest we went for about a full hour. I buried the tach in 5th gear keeping up with her, anyone that's been in a GST knows they have decently long gears. My friend was saying at the rpm in 5th gear we were at for a long stretch, it was about 140mph (he has a 99 GST)... but I took it past that a few times.

broken speed sensors = no top speed limiter FTW.
