97 LS Tranny

Allright here is the question my LS is havin tranny problems, i know what it is, im pretty sure. The 3rd-4th gear sync needs to be replaced, wont shift into 3rd and if you do get it in, it pops out sometimes, horrible grindin noise, so i found the set on the acura oem parts site its 248 dollars. so what i am askin is has anyone ever torn there tranny apart, the s80/y80, to do this(hard/easy) and since i am gonna take it apart is there anything i can do to improve the tranny, different gears, make it a hybrid, stronger more powerful, handle about 300-375 hp???????????? am i just soundin stupid or am I makin some kinda since??? any suggestions, tips, help is appreciated, thanks................

oh yeah what does it mean when peeps say DC, when referrin to tegs?if your asking theses questions u dont want to be the 1 to rebuild it. trannies arent my strong point so im sure somebody will give u better answer.

dc is your chassis code. look at your vin plate.

I'd pick up a GSR tranny! Cost alittle bit more but will be well worth it.

GSR/b16/Type R FTW...But a stock LS tranny can handle 350 hp all day...its your drivering skillz that will rip the tranny apart....You will have to replace 3rd an most likely 4th gear also...replace the bearings, an synchro's at the same time...DO NOT replace just the synchros you will have a problem in the future, an I bet the 3rd gear is all ready rounded off...if not chipped...an if your planning on doing this..GOOD luck I bet you will end up paying a shop to fix your screw up...Not to mention if you mess it up most shops, well mine atleast will not even try an fix your screw up, b/c no telling what you left out or did...So good luck
