View Full Version : 911 update-cage,boost gauge,haltech

Not too much going on since I got it just some cleaning up. I'm doing the interior now and its coming along. Haltech mounted on the backboard where the rear seats were, Autopower bar, and factory clock removed with a boost gauge instead. The paint was still kinda wet and dried flat to match the rest of the gauges. Matches pretty well.

Anyway, next up is yellow plaid Recaros and the interior is done.

Because I'm not a billionaire and I actually wanted a fast car. :D

Yep 13b turbo from an 89 turbo II. Streetport built motor from rx7store.

Made 333hp and 276tq and weighs 2300 lbs with me in it. (Maybe 50lbs more because of the rollbar).

Heres the motor with the new intake, the wheels more polished, and the cooling system up front:

I HAAAAATE Fuchs! They're on every old 911. Polished cookie cutters are unique and go nicely with the other shiny stuff. (polished targa bar and trim) Eventually I might go polished minilites or polished Gotti's. I decided to stay narrow body though. Torn about adding a duck tail or not and also to go RS front bumper. :???:

For now I'm just going to drive piss out of it and get it on a track.

Wheels wont be on the car for a little while. Tires are too wide in the back so I'm going to have to do a mild stretch.

Car has trapped 116 before on the 215 junk tires + spinning. With 235s I think I could hit a 120 trap. We'll see, 1/4 isnt really my thing in this car anyway.

^ I know that car. Yeah with the wheels, flares (mine without the RUF vents), IROC bumpers, and dead on color. Basically my car is that but a targa. Interesting for sure. My rear flares will likely be modified SC flares with more metal added and then SC bumper extension that are stretched and molded.

He paid over 4k for wheels and I believe it. This was 2 years ago but **** it took me forever to find the size and center color I wanted. (I started looking before I got the car). ;)

I love Porsche's and have worked on plenty of them and yours looks nice. But a 13b rotary in a Porsche 911 is a disgrace. Thats like removing the factory V8 from a Ferrari and putting a Chevy 350 in it.

Good luck with it though.

Good luck with it though. It's a disgrace to whom? Porsche? The engine builder? Ferdinand himself? An automobile is a machine comprised of 1,000's of parts assembled together to do one thing, propel itself from point a to point b. Unless its a factory sponsored race team then what does it matter what parts are used to get to point b? What will it take to get well over 300whp out of a Porsche 2.7 liter and what will it cost?

Would it be a disgrace to replace the Z32 300zx's VG30DE/TT with a Z06 LS7? Normally aspirated it's more power and torque than a stock twin turbo, lighter engine, and practically a breeze to work on for tons less money. You want to know a real disgrace, check out the little black cam cover caps on front of the VG30DE from a '90 n/a 300zx...a Mitsubishi DSM logo, imagine that! Ferrari 308 window switch came from a 7-series BMW, 1999+ Lamborghini Diablo headlights from the Nissan 300zx. The Crossfire and 300m are practically Mercedes everything, from engine to suspension so is it a disgrace that I know one person with an S10 and another with a AE86 Corolla that both have BMW engines in it? You go with what you know plus the 13b is half the displacement of the Porsche engine yet is putting out considerable more power for alot less money.

If I was able to get a Ferrari rolling chassis you better believe I'd have a Z06 engine in it mated to whatever transmission to make it work! Ever priced a valve adjustment on a Ferrari?!!

Oh yeah, I've seen more 911's with 350's/SBC's in them than rotaries ;)

Well said!... some people just don’t realize that with about a tenth of the price to make power out of the original Porsche motors, a different make motor can be replaced and modded... That’s the reason why I removed my anemic Porsche 914 motor and replaced it with a lighter, more advanced, more reliable, and twice as powerful Subaru engine.

Now if you were interested in Concourse judging and all that jazz, then keeping all original parts would be required, but then you have a moderately slow, poor handling stock car. Doesn’t sound like fun to me...

Keep up the progress... some day we need to get all the swapped Porsches out and show these **** heads how much better our cars are with our 'disgraceful' motors.

Enjoy it! I'm sure its fast! If thats what your goal is. But any true Porsche enthusiast will agree with me. Just like any Ferrari die-hard fan will agree that a Z06 engine in a 308 is gross regardless of how fast it is.

Oh and 250-300whp can be done with a 3.2L NA. It may not be cheap, but it attainable.

Have a family friend that owned a late 60's 911 that had never been touched by human hands other than the guys that built it in Stuttgart. It lived in a humidity controlled trailer and only pushed off and on for concourse shows by people wearing white gloves. No mileage other than the original break-in and test drive by Porsche. I say "owned" because one of the hurricanes in South Florida flooded the trailer destroying the car with salt water. Insurance covered it well but no amount of money could ever replace it. Not including his 1/2 a dozen or so other Porsche street and race cars he's a true Porsche enthusiast for you.

My question is, where's the true DRIVING enthusiast's at? There's a reason I can't stand most one-make automobile forums, members are all stuck so far up their own ass they don't even know the real reason they're into cars. Be a real car enthusiast and go out and build something more original than a showroom floor car...then drive the hell out of it ;)

The Porsche engines are not cheap. A rebuild with factory spec rebuilt heads, new rings, gaskets, and new clutch (cause you might as well replace since the whole engine/tranny has to come out for a clutch job) can run $10-12k for parts and labor. I use to work at a Porsche shop and thats what my boss charged. He built some sweet NA and turbo 3.0L and 3.2L motors. A 300whp motor would probably run $25-35K depending on the components used. And yes, the 2.7L motors should be avoidable unless it is an original RS motor. Most of the Porsche guys swap out the 2.7L for a 3.0L or 3.2L. Also, the 90-94 stock 3.2L motors should be avoided. For some reason, Porsche didn't use any headgaskets and they end up leaking oil.

My whole point was any die-hard Porsche enthusiast will ask why when they see a 13b rotary in there. I understand its cheaper and faster. But its loses the heritage of the car. flat-6 aircooled with that distinct Porsche sound. Porsche should have never went away from the aircooled engines. I know you are going to say that its ridiculously to spend that kind of money on an engine, but its a Porsche, not a nissan or honda.

Sounds like the original poster loves the car and it doesn't bother him that it has a 13b. We have gotten off topic and thats my fault so this will be my last post in this thread.

Good luck with the car Jay. I'm sure its fun to drive with 333whp.

Most die hard Porsche guys that I meet thinks its retarded, you're right. Then I tell them the numbers it makes. Then they get my email address. Then we line up on the highway and they take pictures with their phone as I pass them. LOL like I said alot of these guys have seen the same stuff all the time in the p car world and it gets boring. When I go to a concours the real drivers, not trailer queen guys, love it. But then again the real trailer queen guys are lighting cigars with hundred dollar bills and smelling their own farts. Nobody like them anyway.

As far as the sound, sounds like an old carrera 4 cam with a huge lift and duration. The supertrapp kind of masks that its a rotary and most people cant tell unless I tell them. It is loud as hell, smells like premix, has a rollbar and giant oil coolers hanging down in the back. Those usually give it away.

It's faster than a 997 turbo (ask me how I know), I can get a water pump for 30 bucks, I saved 150 lbs off the rear.

But it's a disgrace? How about talking **** on the internet but not having anything to show for it? That sounds like a disgrace.

Oh an Marta Mike "Bye bye wheels bearings?" Thats like posting "You tires will wear unneccesarily fast with that camber!"

Eat a ****. Its called modding a car, ever done it? Sometimes **** wears out faster when you do it. Sometimes it doesn't. If you want to insult the car then do it with an insult that matters and do with your friends not **** up this thread.

well sorry if you took what i said as insult. Didnt know my :2cents: were really that important to you. Apparently they are. As far as the wheel bearings it was a sly remark. Just like if someone slams their car and someone posts bye bye speedbumps.........same ****ing difference. Hell i got a ****ed up wheel bearing on my vw right now from too much neg camber. Sorry you took that to heart. Oh and your motor......."x2" didnt know that'd be so heart breaking for you. If the rotary works for you, GREAT! But personally I'd rather have something from porsche in my 911. Thats my personal opinion.......get over it. Not once did I or even the guy I agreed with take shots at your car. In fact i like the car, think its neat. Maybe its not my cup tea but doesnt make it any less of a car. Its funny how u wanna jump all over me for stating my opinions of the car, especially considering i never even bashed the car. If you get all sensitive and touchy on what others think of your ride then stop posting pics on forums. Anyways nice car.

If I was able to get a Ferrari rolling chassis you better believe I'd have a Z06 engine in it mated to whatever transmission to make it work! Ever priced a valve adjustment on a Ferrari?!!

Actually yes, anywhere from 8-12K on a 400i...

I think the only negative is not having that Porsche sound as I really have not grown to like the rotary sound but the power and weightloss is awesome and I think the car as a whole will turn out great.

You don't get to me. It's the internet. Oh god, if i gave a **** what the people on importatlanta who I dont know thought, I'd be in bad shape. I have friends on here that i dont see very often and this is just to give them an update on what I'm doing with it.

You said "bye bye wheel bearings". I dismissed it. Then the only other thing you have to add is you dont like the motor. So your first two posts were worthless basically and my point is why waste your time hanging out in the thread.

Like I said with my cars, you either get them or you don't.

Thats my thing the Porsche people I meet that are real car guys get it. You either get it or you don't. You either play football because you love the sport or you're doing it for the chicks, the jacket, or your friends.

Damn right.

Some of you just have to understand not everyone is all about the nostalgia of a P-car. The owner wanted a fast car...he's got one. It just happened to be a 911.

I'm a Porsche enthusiast and own two. Yes this nearly 25+yr old narrow body 911 may be faster than my turbo, but who cares really? As far as I'm concerned, both owners are satisfied and do it for themselves.

lol. they still all look like frogs.

Me and the girl were up there also this weekend in my S2 to visit some friends in Habersham. We took 197N to 76W and then headed towards Dahlonega to the outlet store off of 400. I wanted to keep going on 76 and hit Blue Ridge but my girl wanted to go to the outlet store

The pic is from a "break area" on 76.
