in 4-2-1 header do you have to use a gasket between when the pipe goes from four into two? or can you just bolt it up?

Anywhere there is a connection, there is a gasket.
And by the way, you only have a header. Just one. Unless you have a v8 or v6 swap... or even a v4 swap... but yeah... just one header.

I have the same problem. Did a H22 swap on a 93 Accord and the guy I bought the header from did not have the gasket between the header and downpipe. No gasket for me means a huge exhaust leak, and it sounds like POOH! What if you cannot get the gasket? Is it possible to get one made or
DIY one?

If you can't find a gasket that works in some way, shape, or form on your car, you're just wee-todd-did

Whatever you do, don't make a gasket out of gasket paper..... Does not last that long!

Picked up the gasket $10.49 with tax and car is quiet as OE. Nice. Summit had the gasket in stock too. BTW, I tried that gasket paper also and when I took the header and downpipe off the paper $10 gasket from Summit. :D

You can't run w/o a gasket because you WILL have an exhaust leak which reduces back pressure and loss of power, it can also cause engine damage along with a horrible gaseous smell (from the leak) and horrible gas mileage. I purchased BBK headers for my old car (02' Mustang GT) and installed the gaskets that came w/ the kit....they were s**t... pretty much like tin foil, so after a week they leaked so it's no surprise you had crappy gaskets come w/ ur header. I'd recommend what I had to do, buy high quality gaskets (I bought copper one's from Summit) and red RTV the bad boys on!
