my SR20DE back fires when I get into it and shift or get into it and let out. Currently has no exaust from catback, and cat is gutted. Should exaust stop this or what do I need to do?

With no exhaust to catch the afterfires you're going to hear a lot of popping and crackling when you downshift or dump the throttle. Just my experience. :)

so putting exaust should stop the back fire, or atleast do it less?

My car does this too. Typically what happens is when you lift off throttle your fuel injectors shut off until RPM drops, before the PCM turns the injectors back on as RPM falls towards idle. When the injectors come back on, a little unburnt fuel might get into the hot exhaust and combust. That's what gives you the pop.
Also an exhaust leak sometimes can cause pops off throttle.
