never had cable internet before now i will.

there is a modem downstairs and i want internet upstairs, is the only way the same as with DSL? like yo either have to run a cable upstairs or use wireless?

or can you put something like a modem on a cable outlet in the room also even though there is anothe rmodem downstairs?

My computer upstairs has no operating system and my DSL is hooked to it, I guess. Lolol. But it is a wireless modem and my downstairs computer is running off the wireless connection. I don't know if that somehow answers your question, but..... Later, QD.

Just invest in a wireless router. You can set it up to share your connection in case friends, etc. come over with a laptop, plus most routers have extra wired connections. All you would do is plug your main line into the router, then the connection from your downstairs computer or w/e, then run a wire from the router upstairs to the upstairs computer.

Also, please don't call the stupid Geek Squad - they don't know **** and they rip everyone off.

i know you said wireless but the signal wont be as strong from downstairs to upstairs.

but ill try it this weekIf you get one of the new Draft 2.0 Wireless-N routers you should be fine. Our modem/router is on the 3rd floor, and I've got three wireless devices on the ground floor, and they all get about 30-50% strength. Which isn't bad imo.
