View Full Version : Higher gas prices and the car scene? Lets talk about it.

So has the rise in gas prices affected your decisions with your car, modding and hanging out? What do you think of the current situation?

Do you think the car scene has taken a "hit" b/c people conserve trips more? Do you think the scene will die down some? Will people now be more selective with what events they go to?

Or do you think maybe enthusiasts just won't care? Will we see a huge increase in modded fuel efficient cars and even hybrids?

I know I no longer stop and go to every single meet/event out there as I did in the past and I've seen people tell me the same "sorry not this time" as gas prices have shot up.

I wont and I just so happen to drive a CRX, so it really doesnt matter. It will however effect my motor choice. I dont wanna premium motor, otherwise the price wont matter. I will always drive, thats what I love to do and will continue to do.

my club has seen a majorly reduced turnout for sure bc of gas. I'm not going to many meets anymore either. after I get the turbo project done it will more than likely be for show because I won't be able to afford to drive it.

hell no man, you have to pay to play, plus i can only fill with 87 so its a little cheaper than most. but whatever, most ppl i chill with are car guys so..

Yea, I don't want to do anything mechanical to my car right now because I don't wanna have to run the higher octane gas.

I see it as you gotta pay to play. When I 1st started driving it took my crx >$15 to fill up. Now my current crx takes $42 to fill up. I hate it, but I love cars (and driving) too much to get out of the scene due to gas prices.

I think it may strengthen the scene. It will definitely help to weed out most of the people that are currently ruining the scene.

shiit, tomorrow i'm driving from the stone mountain area up to dahlonega just to do a mountain run w/ a few buddies because it's been so long. that trip alone will cost me $50 or so in gas.

I haven't planned an event in awhile, I guess I'm semi-retired. I know though b/c of high gas, people will VALUE a good event even more today than they did in the past. So I kind of agree with you here.

i honestly don't think gas prices are having much of an affect on peoples social lives at all.

you STILL see all these guys driving around in Fbillion-fifty's trying to be billy badass.

i mean. if a big truck like that has got say a 30 gallon tank (it probably has a bigger tank than that actually) and gas is 4 dollars a gallon, thats 120 to fill up. fuuuuccckkk that.

I think the scene hasn't hurt too much because of the rise in gas. Most of us drive small displacement cars that get relatively good mileage. My subie requires premium, but it gets 26mpg...out of boost. lol. I just drive much more conservatively lately than I did when I first got the car. Then gas was still in the 2.50s if I recall correctly. I also haven't fully filled my tank in almost 3 mos. I put 20 in here and there as I need it and try not to drive unless I need to.

I threw her around on a back road recently though. Cost me a quarter tank of gas when all was said and done, but we have to have fun sometime, right?

The raise in gas prices hasn't stopped me from doing things to my car, and going to meets... Just changed my thinking a little... I still have my civic, but I've decided that I'm not going to mod it as heavily as i was before. **** i'm thinking about putting it back to stock...

But my cousin just sold me his 95 maxima with a bad clutch for $200, which i THINK is going to be my new project car.

but my cousin just sold me his maxima for $200. So i'm pretty sure that

It'll always be around as a beater when it gets old and in bad shape for towing things or hauling boats out to the lake.

It will be my main ride though for the next 7 or so years until after law school and i'll try and get something more appropriate like a beamer to take to the office.

truck is just a lot more fun to tear up while at school

from a damn quarter of a tank my stock ass crx takes roughly 25 bucks to fill (I just did it yesterday). Honestly Im at a cross roads Im tryin to get a house soon but I was planning on buying another integra and mod that (figure why the hell not go all out on one car), buy a scooter (looking at a Honda Ruckus or Big Ruckus 105 mpg out of a 1.3 g tank FTMFW!!) and just lightly mod the crx. I only just have an exhaust and an intake I figure i'd just throw Headers get a afc and tweak it a bit maybe detune it for more gas and just make it a clean ride and use the teg for the biz Or just reverse the idea and Build the Crx up since its lighter and DD the teg with minor bolt ons and keep an LS in there. If I have a scooter I'd only need to drive the DD when it rains or gets too cold. I figure that its worth it. Like earlier stated it is a hobby and where there's a will there is a way.

Its a much much better investment.

true but i do have a lot saved up to put on that down payment to begin with. And it is a foreclosure. Once again though best case scenario if I do that. Im gettin the scooter regardless. It'll help me out a lot in the long run. sure the crx goes through roughly a half a tank a week goin to work and my girl'f place but the scooter can makes those trips at less of a cost. it at least doubles the distance on a smaller tank.

I just recently filled up and it cost me $60 at $4.25 a gal. I do get great gas milage for a boosted car that likes to hit 20psi all the time. I'm getting around 375 a tank. Thats with the gas light on for about 30 miles. To scared to drive more then 30 miles with the light on.

I dont get why (and yes this is slightly off topic) people will drive a big azz truck or gas guzzler to work and home. Why not get the best bang for ur buck and EARN more money each way then spend it.

Honda it to work Honda it home, Ferrari it on the weekends or somethin.

I ahve one of those trucks, that takes 120 too fill up. I drive 60 miles daily, it was killing me.But i made my wife trade me cars, since she only drives 5 miles to work and home.
I know before i sold my race car, gas prices had huge factor on racing. It was costing me well over 250,just to go too the track, just gas in truck was 180 then race fuel another 60-70.
