View Full Version : That feeling of accomplishment... you know...

I think this will more relate to guys... but wanted to see everyones views on self accomplishment...
To me there's nothing better than that... "I did this myself.. and it worked out amazingly" feeling...
reason i bring this up... is there have been many times i've gone into something not really knowing too much about it.. and always seem to fix the problem(well.. not always.. but you get the drift..) and you just get one of those natural highs that makes you feel good..
recently i bought a motorcycle... i was told "it has an idle problem... we thinkg it's the carburettor.. cleaning it should fix it... oh and because of that it has a high idle"
now, i don't know much about bikes... or carburettors... so i jumped on a forum to check some things out on this particular model... and was told what diff things to check...
so i got in there... and checked it... found the problem.. and fixed it.. in less than 5 min worth of work.. and 10$ boot between the intake and throttle body... adjusted the throttle screw and now she purrs like a kitten...
to me that's just an awesome feeling... i could imagine a lot of the guys on here getting the same way while working on a build/project... especially the DIYers...
now i'm not saying women don't do builds and put things together.. but i think it's more of a guy thing to do..
i was wondering how the womenz out there related to "self accomplishment".
and to see what other things give guys/girls that feeling...
x2
The feeling of accomplishment is the best feeling to have. Aside from an orgasm. But that's a feeling of accomplishment all in it's own. :D

this morning my ball joint popped out while i was out and about... I didn't really have any $$$ to spend so I decided that I was juts ogint to press it back in...... In the autozone parking lot... After 30 min of cussing I got it pressed back in (and in the process found out that my 2 month old axle was destroyed, and i need a new knuckle)... Put my car back together, put it on the ground, and that ***** popped right back out!!! **** my honda..... I think i'm about to begin project maxima!

Well for me, one of the things that I sort of get a high off of is leaving my job knowing I did everything I was suppose to do.. and then some. I'm usually exhausted (mentally) but it's still a good feeling.
Also, a clean house give me a high :D

When I first changed brakes and the fuse on my car. I know its a small thing but Honestly Im terrified of breaking my car since that is my only way to get around. Sure it took a day because I had never done any work and i couldnt figure out for the life of me which fuse it was that wa out but once it was done I realized it really wasnt bad as i kept thinking. i didnt lose any pieces and my car ran fine. Now if i can just get tools and find where that damn oil leak is commin from in the CRX life would be great..

A lot of furniture nowadays is assembled with those wood things, glue, and the turn to lock it down screws, those are nifty. So, its easy to use all of the pieces.

well i had never done anything major on a car myself until i got mine. i put the new transmission in. lol it was kinda scary because i wasnt sure if i was doing it right sometimes, i was constantly checking cb7tuner to see. its probably a 2 hour job for most of you but for me it was something i am still proud of.

^^ don't know if that's really a feeling of accomplishment. A feeling of extreme relief, definitely.
-Edit: Heh, Killer beat me to it.
I usually get that feeling of accomplishment from automotive work. Sometimes it's the first turn of the key after doing a timing belt on an interference engine and hearing only good, happy engine noise or buying a $100 car that the previous owner claimed that the engine needed rebuilding only to find that the PO installed a fuel pump wrong.
But, mostly it boils down to solving some problem with some thing, i.e. car, computer, electronics, etc., and making it work correctly again.

Yeah diving into something new with a car, and doing it Right is always rewarding as can be. Crossing your fingers only to have it come to life is awesome.
Also, i agree about leaving a job/job site and knowing that it is all squared away and done right. And you don't have to look back and wonder. That is a great feeling.
