I just bought a b20 and had the intensions of putting it in my hatch.... Since a B18 has more HP but less torque would it be worth it to put the b20 block with my b18 head.... Im trying to go all motor non vtec only because everybody and there granny's have vtakkk.... If its worth it what oem pistons are good for high compression as it will be all motor..

Any advise would be great
And before you haters start I LOVE YOU

Well from what I know b20s do have alot more torque.Do to them having 84mm pistons. But most ppl say if you want higher compression you will have to go aftermarket.I say just get a b20 and build it

I don't understand this desire for lack of vtec....

but yeah I don't believe there are any OEM 84 mm pistons that will yield you a higher C/R... I would recommend after market forged anyways for reliability... there are some companies that make 84 mm ITR and CTR replica pistons... but I would stay away from the casts....

get the head milled down to raise comp. and aftermarket head gasket.

Oh yea (i just wanted to be the first to say it) get a VTACH head :D

j/k keep the non vtec and build that B***H up right and so nitrous would not hurt

also LS/B20 heads need to be ported heavily just to match the port size of a STD B16 head...not worth it to me unless u got money and want to be diff. go ahead but since u said u wanna go non-vtec and u just bought a B20, ever think bout gettin a short geared tranny B16, GSR..etc.:goodjob:

Example: (150-160whp)less reliable
your B20
aftermarket Pistons 11:1 ($350-$400)
aftermarket rods($300-$400)
balancing honing, machine shop($500-$800+)
stage 1 cams($400-$500)
no head work
tune$300
more...gaskets,bearings..etc.
this kind of setup $$$, labor will be a lot for this, unless u can do this yourself

Example:(145-155whp)more reliable
your B20
stock B16 head($500-$600)
B20/vtec kit($200-$250)
tune:$300
this is a simple build :goodjob: and more reliable cuz u did'nt open up your bottom end...and labor is alot less than ^^^^

A LS makes more hp than a B20

Don't waste your time swapping heads because they are the same. If you have a b20b then your only oem option are b20z pistions, but if you have a b20z there aren't any oem options. You could go with aftermarket pistons (there are type r copies out there).

I would suggest goggle or honda-tech searching before posting anymore LOL.

and those motors that are ls/vtec b20/vtec are expensive to build right.PPl always try to influence ppl to just go vtec

well whatever direction I go it will certainly be NON VTAAKKKK...
The setup now is a LS/B16 tranny and sitting in the garage is a 98 b20.... Just contemplating on the build for it...

I love ya'll die hard non vtec guys! You would spend $$$ building a motor and only get 160hp to the wheels. That's love right there!!! Luckily, when you see the light vtec is only a golden eagle kit away LOL.

Not too sure why people are downing Non Vtec but Ive had my mildly built LS motor (built by MainStream Performance) in my EJ1 for over two years (daily driven), still runs strong. I safely rev it to 8200 daily but Ive taken it to 8500, Ive beaten (I/H/E) GSRs and walks bolt-on B16s.. (vids upon request)..

Motor 98 LS
Tranny GSR
Crower 403 cams
Crower dual value springs and Ti retainers
B16 pistons
Ferrera flat faced valves
Blox intake manifold (stock TB)
Hondata intake manifold gasket
ARP rod bolts and head studs
ACL rod bearing
CTR header w/ 2.5in exhaust

setup made 151whp and 128tq on an 87degree day..

if i were you id get the head ported, as they already said LS & B20 head are no different.. run Crower 404 cams and B16 pistons.. Ive ran a B16 tranny on mine for a min but hated it on the highway at crusing speeds.. GSR tranny is the best of both worlds, great gear ratios with a nice final to hold lower RPM on the highway.. just my :2cents:

151whp is pretty damn badass for a non-vtec, but like i said 150 hp is also easily atained with an stock bottom end LS w/ a b16 head.
It's what u want though, diff. setups are always badass.:goodjob:

lmao, those highway rides gets irritaing w/b16 tranny.I leaned that quick going from a LS tranny b16.After while going down the highway at 4.5K with some damn ear plugs.

Don't get me wrong I would rather run from a dig. I was just saying those highway trips will kill your ear drums. My:2cents: thats my favorite tranny(b16).
