a cheap 10MP digital camera or a name brand <8MP digital camera? i'm in the market for a DC and i'd like to get some opinions/facts.

walmart has a pretty decent camera on clearance. 10MP w/ a 1GB memory card for $130...i also see a 10MP w/ 32MB memory card for $115. i know most of you would say, get the one w/ 1GB memory but what about the cheapo digital camera ebay offers or some other not so hot cheap brands..i mean...i know nikon is at the top of the camera chain as far as digital cameras..but i dont plan on spending no more than $150 for a digital camera. i'm not planning on doing photography(although its a thought) but i just need something for family trips instead of taking crappy phone pics.

opinions needed please

PS if its in the wrong section please move..only thing i saw this going under was lifestyle

MP doesn't mean that much once you get over the 7MP mark, unless you plan on blowing up everything you take to literally wallpaper sized....i'd go w/the better brand.

so what if i have to choose between a 8.1MP kodak and a kodak 10MP, both with 1GB memory card, the 10MP runs for maybe $20-30 more..what would u suggest? i forgot the name brand of the one i saw in walmart, but i know it was a good name brand as far as names, not sure as far as cameras go though. but overstock has a kodak 8.1 mp for $120..the one in wally world is $130

no, keep an eye on dell, they're the ones always having the canon deals. olympus is pimp, that's most likely going to be my next one, the shockproof/waterproof/coldproof beast :D

optical zoom is what you need to be more concerned about with a point and shoot digi cam...

the higher the better....

wayne is right about MP... heck i've got a nikon d70s... it's only a 6.1 mp camera...

so unless you are wanting to do resize the picture... whether it be croping and cutting or blowing up... mp doesn't matter.

chante had gotten me a kodak once... it was a zx10 or something like that... it was actually a really really great point and shoot.... and there was one above it that was like 12x optical zoom that also took amazing pictures...

If you are trying to stay under $150 then you should get the highest MP you can get for that money. At that price you will get an ok camera with ok performance. Like said earlier, MP means nothing over about 8 MP, and that rings especially true in cheap point and shoot cameras. Their sensors are made smaller and they cram a bunch of MP's onto that small sensor. Therefore those MP's actually read less information because of that. Don't get me wrong though, you can still get really decent pics out of cheap cameras. My recommendation, save for a bit and get a $450.00 Nikon D40. SLR's FTW. :goodjob:

P.S. - I used to sell cameras at Wolf Camera.

My mom has a Kodak Easyshare and really likes it. It takes really clear pictures that look good printed and online. The one you are looking at has a good MP size as well as a 10x optical zoom which is a great zoom for point and shoot cameras. Most P&S cams are only 3-4x optical zoom. For that price I would say go for it. :goodjob:
