I just scooped up a 1990 CRX and shes smoking like a crazy (not knocking) she just smokes really bad and seems to be really weak/no power
should I
(1) look for a healthy D series motor
(2) rebuild the one I got (that way I KNOW every thing is fresh) approx what would this cost?? I's like to use a shop that mainly messes with honda's ,that way I know it's done right
(3) throw in my B16A (not really wanting to go this way because of GAS)
I really thought about throwing in my B16A but from what I've heard the gear ratio's are really short and if it's any thing like the 99si I used to own then I'm afraid it'll eat gas like crazy, does anyone know about the b16's tranny ratio's and could possibly point me in the right direction? secondly I wonder how hard (if possible) would it be to install the 5th gear from a LS tranny into mine (for the record my tranny is cable ,dunno if that matters)
I'm really concidering rebuilding my D that in the crx now...ohh yeah WILL any D swap into the CRX ??? or is it to much hassle??
thanks for any help you guys can offer!!!!!

Well my d series was smokin really bad. So I got a DOHC ZC to replace it and it was smokin a little. So I just rebuilt it and I guess I spent about 200 dollars doing it myself. The ZC gets great gas mileage and is fun. It's not crazy fast but made the car a lot more fun. If you wanna spend big money, and a lot of work, you can get a b series, but that up to you. The ZC was pretty easy to swap, and used my old tranny. But you could rebuild your d series, and really enjoy it too! Hope this helps!

I saw do whichever you want to to
My first hatch had the D and I loved it
My current one has a B and I love it too, my gas mileage does suck tho
I would either rebuild the motor in it or buy a d15b from h-motors and drop it in there, if you wanna keep the gas mileage

1. start looking of good d series motor.
2. its not worth the time and money to rebuild.
3. its a honda there all good on gas.

My D started smoking really bad and I swapped in a D16Z6 Vtec motor. Used my original transmission and axles. Lots of fun and wasn't a hard swap at all.

I say rebuild the engine thats in it now by yourself. Not only is it going to be cheaper than the other options, but also its a good learning experience.

I bought a obd0 to obd1 conversion harrness of ebay for $60 you need a P28 ecu and some extra wire and thats it.
I got my motor out of a 95 delsol along with the ecu.

zc is weak and parts are harder to come buy... an ls is cheaper, not a hard swap, not expensive if you stay obd0, more power and cheaper to maintain.

ditch the d series and throw in the b16. by the time you rebuilt the d you couldve had the b in the car and running. the gears are short but until you cand buy an ls tranny get a vafc and set vtec engagement higher. heck if you buy the beer ill come help you put the b16 in

Mike, call Hung and see what he can dig up for you. He probably has an old D series that they won't ever use.

Wannab20Hatch has got me leaning toward the b16 I have with a LS tranny, I have everything to do the swap (i think) Jdm linkage ,HAsport mounts ...ohh I need axles ..I dunno how true it is but someone once told me if I used 1st gen integra axles they'll pop out and for it to be RIGHT I have to buy HAsport axles
on that note any one have a cable LS tranny????
wannab20hatch
05-31-2008, 12:55 PM
you need 90-93 integra axles. none of my friends with swaps in their ef's had trouble out of their axles. take your axles out and go to autozone and tell them you need 91 integra axles and you got your core right there.

i think b-series sucks and youll be extremely dissapointed with a b16/ls trans until you boost it. you will drop vtec and out of power every time you shift, especially with the torqueless weak ass b16a. i sold my b16a with the quickness and put my d16 back in the car!

Nope, youd use your cable stock trans, and use your stock engine harness and put it on your newer engine. Depending on what motor youve got i may convert to obd1 but if its a d16y7 you can use a obd0 pm6 ecu with no problems.

Did you ever track it?And have you tracked your current set up.
green91
05-31-2008, 08:50 PM
No, im not really interesting in tracking either one honestly, drag times aren't really relevant to the kind of driving i enjoy. The b16 was somewhat costly, and realistically had less power below 5500-6000rpm than a d16 does. It definitely had some top end but it felt like a 2 stroke dirt bike, gotta constantly wind to keep it in power. So i sold it off and revamped my entire sohc setup and haven't looked back.

well I guess imma just roll with the b16 ...yall seen any full blown wright-ups on ef swaps? I know I gotta bash in the shock tower somewhere near the alternator and I heard and dont know about the multi-point dual-point thing ,I dont even know how to determine which one my car is
yup it can be done
wannab20hatch
06-02-2008, 10:43 PM
you will need to clearance for the alternator. youll need either a new shift linkage a del sol vtec or 99-00 si will work and if your ef is an si its multipoint if its a dx or standard its dual point. like i said ill help you with the swap if you want. im sure chris would wire it for you pretty cheap.
