Little late, but as promised:

Every Christmas, I visit my family in France. The Family is spread out through France and my uncle's family lives in Alsace which borders Germany. Well since I was so close to Stuttgart, might as well right? I was pretty pissed to find out that I couldn't visit the Factory until this summer, so I will be going back this year when they finish the new museum (http://www.automotoportal.com/media/images/vijesti/060921001.2.jpg) to visit both. I also have pics from the stealership, where I made an indispensable purchase from the parts department since it is not sold in the US; A OEM European front plate holder for my car :D. I have a whole bunch of pics, but here are a few (lol). Shall we?

fawking sweet shizzle dude. My front plate was a gift from a friend that had another friend in Germany actually take it off their car and ship over here for me. They had to cut the seals in order to do that so I ordered some replica seals

Nice pix!
Is it just me or does some of the cars appear dirty?
The Carrera GT looks dirty, the tires and wheel wells appear dirty - kinda odd for a museum.

Didn't notice that, but yeah they look dirty.. I know its what they call a "moving," the cars are frequently switched around, but thats no excuse..

It is motor racing tradition that a car that won either Le Mans or anyother important race not be washed afterwerd, its almost like battle scars from the event.

balsa?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balsa

Starting with the Bergspyder cars of the mid to late 60's when Porsche began studying every form of light weight material to use in their race cars, they began to use balsa wood in the shift knobs.

That's why the Carrera GT knob is balsa wood instead of tacky carbon fiber.

It's tradition, something Porsche knows a little about.

well damn, even the balsa wood didn't get a comeback. Im sad now.nah, I can't imagine balsa being durable or strong enough for something constantly being used...even with a hard lacquer finish. For a true manual transmission you don't want a lightweight shift knob anyways, it needs to be weighted & balanced for precise shifts. :2cents:
