I'll be content with putting down 200whp while still getting 28+ mpg. Anything after that will be silly for daily driving useage.

For my Road Race car I would be happy if it makes right around 700hp. For my drag car 900-1000 seems about right for my daily anything over 400hp is acceptable.

300 HP is enough for me for smooth highway cruising, with still plenty of power on tab if I need to pass other cars. It would also help if it is out of an efficient engine, like the V6 in the IS 350.....

Too bad that such engine requires premium gas.. :(

if i could put down 300-350hp to the wheels i would be more than content. heck im putin down appox 250 rwhp( on a dynojet/dynapack) now and im content. the way i look at it is, any more than 350 would be a handful, and there will always be a faster car out there-so no point in making mine super carzy fast. thats my veiws.

depends what car.

FWD car - prolly around 200hp
rwd car - miata size 200hp
rwd car - mustang size 400 hp
4wd car - sti size - 350 hp
drag car rwd - 600 hp
drag car 4wd - 600 hp

The simple fact that gas prices are what they are, ill settle with barly enough to move from a - b.

TheDarkRacer

id say 200-260whp FWD/RWD. I'd like to have a boosted accord(sleeper) at like 230whp(long term goal) for a DD, and a 250whp rx7 for my starter drift car. :)

200 hp & ft/lb tq would be PLENTY enough for me. With my current car producing around 100-110 iirc from the factory 125hp, it noticeably feels underpowered on a hot day w/ a/c on in stop and go traffic, mostly on the highway. 200 would be enough to obtain good gas mileage with some oompff when needed

05-21-2008, 08:21 PM
I was thinking about this the other day. I was looking at the prices for supercharger porting and I was debating getting a port job for $700 and making around 515hp and about the same tq with all supporting bolt ons, or saving up $3K and getting a twin screw and end up making in the 600hp range.

Saving up $3K is a completely different story than saving up $700 so the short answer is that the port would be worth it because I honestly think I will be happy with 500ish RWHP.

On the other hand, I know once I'm @ that power level, Im gonna regret wasting money on the Port and Kick myself in the ass for not saving for a twin screw because the new magic number will be 600...

i'd be happy with ~350-400whp for my DD. IMO, it's pretty pointless to have like a 700+whp daily driver just because that's all it is -- a daily driver. It's not like you can go all 'Paul Walker' on the way to work every day.

I have 405whp DD and 344 whp depending on boost maps. I plan on doing a shortblock build with meth injection just for added safety. my daily driver map will be about 480 whp, a 93 octane/meth map of mid 500's and maybe a race gas map for the track of high 500- low 600 whp. Then I will be happy. Anything in the 500 range on the street is getting to be overkill because you can't get traction unless running from a roll. Hope to get this within the next 6-8 months.:ninja: :ninja:

considering i will probably only be driving eg's or ek's, anything over 300hp for a DD is a little pointless. especially for a fwd car. 300 in a car that light will even up to alot of 400 450 hp cars. if i had like a 240sx or something a little bigger and rwd or awd i would want a little more like 400ish.

I don't understand the purpose of ppl wanting excessive hp when they can barely drive what they have now to its limits.....

You should be able to drive your car to its maximum potential at its very basic state before you go looking for more power than you can possibly handle and can use legally.....

IMO anything over 300hp on a daily driver is ridiculous.

The 300-399 whp class has kept me satisified for the last couple of years. My Neon makes 320+whp on pump, 350+whp on pump and meth, while 370+whp on race gas. So far at the drag strips, it has achieved a 12.4 @ 110 on pump, an 11.9 @ 117 on race gas, and a 120 mph trap.

My Neon is my daily driver and I sure do put it to use on the road. The odometer reads 108,907 miles right this minute and we are in CA as I type this. It gets 25-28 mpg going to work and back while 29-33 mpg on the highway.

BTW, the car was purchased new in June 2005 while the setup was put in November 2005.

I chose 400-499 just because I'm thinking that should be enough to pull 600cc bikes on the hwy and I would like to be able to say that I can pull on motorcycles.

That should be more than enough horsepower to achieve that goal especially with how light your car is. Even I have pulled on a couple bikes. Just a few nights ago while I was on the way home from work, I ran into a Gixxer. We did at least four pulls and I ended up pulling on the bike every time. One run with the bike around three cars in front and me with the move, I pulled four cars on him by 140 from a 60 kick. That was me on pump + meth.

150-200whp because I already make about 120whp and my car is already pretty quick being only 23000 pounds, but I'd like just a nudge into the 160 or 180 whp zone just to be that much nimbler for autocrossing. Anymore than that and I'd have to go F.I. which I'd rather not do just to have quick throttle response and power on demand.

well i voted for the 400 to 499 class, just cause i am planning to buy a 06 or 07 Sti and really they are fast stock, well to me their fast so a little more to increase a lil pep in the step would not hurt, plus awd launches are crazy.

I'll be realistic, I will look into a supercharger or turbo kit for it in the future. I want more.

When my TT kit was first put on I thought my 344 whp DD map was fast. Now I find myself using my 405whp map more. I am probably about to go built motor in the next few months though. Looking for high 400's for low boost and mid 500's for fun runs.

I voted around 200-299 whp because I am right at 200whp/tq now N/A and enjoy driving it day to day. With a basic low-boost, Z32 MAF Z32 370s, IC, Basic AFC and WB02 my power goals would be around 280-320 whp from 6-9 psi. Wouldn't do much more than that on this car.

For AWD/RWD I would put a power goal on 400+whp. I am about cutting weight and all-around performance (braking/handling) rather than highway pulls and posting up dyno charts that look like look like a ramp, more about total area under the curve than peak numbers. That's just me though and I love to see people pushing the limits of whatever they are working with.

I'd like 450-500. Anymore than that is pointless to me. 400 hp and you have more hp than 90% of the cars on the road. The other 10% you will hardly ever come across on the open road. I'm hoping Im finally at 450ish

I voted 300-400 because my goal is 350-375 eventually. At that power level, i'd be in the 11's which is plenty to fluck with a lot of cars in a straight line from a dig or from a roll. That power would also be the limits of that largest DOTR/slicks i could fit on my car without going widebody/flares.

Not to mention that would give me a power to weight ratio of about 6.5:1...... thats flucking MOVING.

550whp with my volvo. Its not too difficult to do, but I need a place to do it. That hp level is about where the stock valves and cams run out of breath, so I figure that is a good stopping point before things get too costly.

I chose more than 500 HP.

Reason being, I just love raw ridiculous over needed power. Granted, yes you cant hook up for ****. But the fact that you have the power to spin them at 130.... Thats friekin awesome.

And also when I am racing around in my buddies silverado. Pulling up next to some camaro that thinks he bad... Well the camaro revs.... The silverado from say a 40-50 cruise just lights them up effortlessly and drags the rear end for a hundred feet or soo....

Raw ridiculous power. Awesome.

I would have to say 300 - 400 rwhp. It wouldn't really take much, just a small turbo kit, good catback, and a good tune

I'm sure a lot of people say as high as possible, but whats the point? there is always going to be someone faster! What is the point of an 800 hp car that you can't drive safely every day? 400 is great power and would be much easier to drive

HP is good but lb/HP makes a lot more sense.

The current 7.45 lb/whp is pretty good but with intake/cam/tune it can drop to 6.0

A nice supercharger + forged setup(just in case) will yield 650hp conservatively (~6psi). That will take it to ~ 5lb/hp.

LOST: Briefcase with $25k in it. If found please PM me.

LT1?Yessir. I'm either keeping this one in the camaro, or getting an LS1 for this car and building the LT1 and throwing it in my s3 Xj6. It's funny, I'm headers and gears away from low 13's. A big cam to throw me into the 12's, and heads to take me into the 11s. But at that point, why not build a 383? As sson as I get enough for a DD, it's on.

you can never have too much power

Yeah, as long as your car can handle it. A 350whp Civic isn't street drivable. A 300whp 240z is street drivable but only if the suspension and wheels are heavily modified. You can indeed have too much power, and the sad thing about many people (And cars) Is that this number is very low for them.

i'm going to say more then 500hp. If you guys have never been in a car with this kinda raw power. Then you are seriously missing out. 250horsepower is almost what is in the new Civic Si LOL. Why would you be happy with that little amount. Damn even the G37's and the Maxima's are come with like 300+ now.
Very true. 330hp stock. I want 600+whp later this year.:D

I had actually stated recently that I want to keep my 350Z close to how it is now and buy a 300ZX and hook it up with at least 600whp. that would make me very happy :p

I'll be content with putting down 200whp while still getting 28+ mpg. Anything after that will be silly for daily driving useage.

x2! any car higher than 350 or so cudnt be a DD or atleast not for me

I'd be happy more than fine with 600-700 in a R32 GTR. Most people say thats the usable limit for a street GTR.
