what is with white people and camping? i have a group of friends that are going camping this weekend and asked for my token minority presence....i have seen one too many horror films where the black guy/minority of the film dies a horrendous death first. also the idea of sitting around in the dark in the middle of nowhere with a fire burning (illuminating the fact that you are all alone) slightly disconcerting.


so fuk that.

my parents came from a country without running water, barely adequate electricity, no cable TV, a/c etc. why in fuks name would i want to get away from said luxuries?

i'd understand the concept of a log cabin where said ammenties are at your disposal...but to stay outside in the elements (with insects) with no running water, a/c, TV, internet, proper bed, bears, scorpions, snakes and etc i find rather...ummm...Caucasian.

I just bought camping equipment, but I'll be using a pop up camper to sleep in. I hate camping normally but it's the only way I can stay at Bonnaroo. (Four day music festival in June on a 400 acre farm with 80,000 people.)

I like certain types of camping. My friends' idea of camping is bringing 34543 cases of beer and some steaks and grilling out and getting drunk out in the woods. I prefer backpacking and camping in the wilderness. To me the best part is knowing that I can survive on my own without much (if any) modern conveniences. It can be really expensive to buy the right gear, but It's a lot of fun.

LMAO!!! +1. I am in India right now... and the other day when I went to take a shower, and it was hot as fvck, mosquitos and shyt everywhere, I was like "this shyt feels like camping." except with good food. LOL.

I do enjoy camping though, it is good to get away from all modern luxuries and bring urself back down to earth. Or you could just take a trip to the motherland, but camping is cheaper and you have less of a chance of catching malaria.

i think it as a way that people can go back in time, like ancient times. When people used spears and bow and arrows to hunt. Sort of a way to prove to yourself that you dont need to relay on modern technology to live. A way to connect with your 1000 BC self. Nothing makes me hungrier than watching those documentary survival shows spear a fish in a river and cooking it over an open flame... the same way we did way back then.

Yea my last time on the AT was miserable. The first night it got down to 4 degrees. All of my gear was only rated to 15 degrees. Even with an Exped downmat sleeping pad and marmot sleeping bag I still froze my ass off... Then the rats got into my pack at one of the shelters...

Yeah, my last time up there it snowed on us, rained on us, and came a fierce wind storm on us. Miserable to say the least, but after it is all said and done you still feel so good for doing it.
