setup: b18a block, ls cryo treated rods, arp rod bearing, acl main bearings, pr3 pistons, b16 head, ctr intake cam, gsr exhaust cam, skunk2 adjustable cam gears, 310cc injectors & fuel rail

1. for reliability issues, are block guards good or bad? (heard alot of bad and good)

2. the lsvtec is going in an obd0 car, is it worth converting to obd1 or just run a jdm b16 obd0 ecu? i plan on tuning with w/ an apexi vafc 2

3. what is a good redline with this setup? i want to go 8200-8500 RPM w/out spun rod or main bearings

4. power to expect? my goal is 170-185:screwy:

for mine which is near the same setup btlground said 8k no higher! thats for reliability though. I think with a good tune you can reach your goal too. G/L

I believe the block guard is not needed (also I hear they restrict the coolant flow). Also, since you are running a "hybrid" motor that doesn't have an oem map, I would convert over to a chipped p28 and get dyno tuned. Since you running a obd0 car (assuming it's pre92) you may want to upgrade your fuel pump.

-obd0->1 conversion harness
-dizzy
-ecu
-4 wire o2 sensor

that's all you need (if I mixed something up someone correct me please)
