1998 Ferrari F355 Spyder

i've read that the tops (convertible) have to be rebuilt, which runs about $10,000 from a specific vendor and the engine service every 30k is about $5-7k

those are the cons.....

anyone else want to throw opinions/suggestions out?

if you do the research and find a good deal, you can end up making money off of some of these exotics...just due to the nature of a typical "old man" seller

end of the day, you might be being paid to drive a car like that

that is how dado from teckademics got started into cars...i've got a couple friends who have just recently started at the bottom of the car chain doing similar work...

i've always like the 355's...but if you bought one you'd be the second on IA to have one...IA's ferrari cherry has long since been popped.

I wouldn't do it, Brian. I looked at them before I bought mine and while they look nice, the driving aspect leaves a bit to be desired (by me at least). The money that you will spend it keep it up might be extensive as well. Tell you what, I'll put you in touch with my friend David who has two of them; a coupe and a vert. He'll tell you straight up what it will run you and such.

Thank you for being the first one to bring up the 355 severe lack of power!! :goodjob:

If all you want is a few heads turning then go for it but if you want overall performance then the 355 is kinda like the stepchild of Ferrari. From what I hear from some people that have driven them and a couple that have them is that they're really not exciting aside from the name. As much as the name might draw you in, I'd pass on it if you're looking for a performer.

268 torque, Brian. With that said, you have to rev the shit out of the car in order to get any power. It's like driving a very fance S2000 of sorts. Down low it is a dog, up high it screams, but barely.

I have done both many times. It was one of the vehicles that I looked at before I bought my 911. With that said, I'll hold my opinions on this vehicle until I see IA's response to my question. :)

Why would I ever ask someone that clearly doesn't know shit about the subject about it? Ruiner can talk/act like a prick to me for two reasons:

1.) He has a 996 turbo
2.) He is my friend of many years.

I would give it a thumbs down. I have owned other exotic cars and I sold my last NSX to get a F355. I test drove and researched all that I could about Ferraris and I was very disappointed to find that you are only buying an image. Do not get me wrong, a Ferrari is a beautiful piece of machinery but there is no way in the world that Ferrari should get away with building a car like this with an engine that needs to be serviced the way it does. If you own this car, expect to drop about 10k a year in usual upkeep but if you run it really hard, double that. As I said I drove about 5 different F355 from 1995 - 1999 and the main problem was the valve glide issue with every year but 1999. Beyond that the interior/fitment is horrible. Everyone who has ever been in a Ferrari knows that all of the buttons get sticky and the dash starts to pull up and shrink. Do you think Ferrari should get away with this at $250k when Subi makes te STi that goes 100k miles before a serious tune up. It will rock the F355 off the line at 1/10 of the price.

Why does Ferrari get away with it? Well because it doesnt matter how they produce their cars, people are always going to by them for what they represent. Until people start sitting down and telling Ferrari to go back to the drawing board and build a better car (not design, I truely think they're beautiful) Ferrari is going to continue ripping off the public.

I ended up purchasing another NSX because frankly it is a better overall car interms of reliablility, performance (if not the same as the 355, very damn close) and looks (in my opinion close to the ferrari!)
