so i was bored yesterday , opened the hood on the R and for a while now i was playing with the idea of polishing my valve cover , the wrinkle red paint was flaking and looked horrible so i thought why not...

i used a old wire brush i found in the basement and a electric drill, and 2 hours later i was left with this...

it needs more work , i plan on getting a finer wire brush and just polish it to a mirror finish...oh i did the intake too, it was painted gunmetal before lolol.

now just pull off some of your brackets and such and sand them down along with a heat sheild and spray it with the high temp black bbq paint and it will look nice and clean! Anywho.. looks good.

Kinda has a Spun or machined aluminum look. I like it the way it is.

yeah you won't get a mirror finish with the wire brush even if you use metal polish... you are gunna have to do some sanding ... looks like a good start tho... its looking pretty clean... be careful not to **** up the aluminum with the brush tho...

Benefit

how can you **** up the aluminum with the wire brush?

Just google polishing techniques. It requires a lot of time, but it's not hard work at all. Don't give up, looks like your on the right track :goodjob:

I like it like that... mirror polish is cool and everything, but I prefer some of that texture on there. Leave it as is IMHO

See my user title? There's a reason I have that name lol. Gotta find a way to get in between. I can use my pinky and ring finger and fit them between the crevices.

the wire wheel leaves grooves that you have to go back and sand out. you will never polish that out without hrs and hrs of sanding. 190 220 320 400 800 100 1500 2000 then you can maybe start polishing

your never gonna get a mirror finish with a wire brush, your gonna have to hand sand it with ultra fine paper and buff it out with metal polish

You won't get a mirror finish with just the brush, i say a chrome paint job is the fastest and that extra red on the cover can come off easy with paint stripper. You leaving your letters the same color? It's looking good though keep at it.

Don't worry about those tiny crevices. Just worry about the main top parts, the ones you had painted in red. Use that wire brush to get all that red off in between the crevices.

As far as sanding go, if you wanna save time, use Bucky's method and skip every other grit :goodjob: I'm sure you'll still be happy with the end result
