how do i get off the lower nuts that hold the manifold on??  :cussing:

A "simple" 2 hour install just turned into an overnight expedition.....all because of those freakin 5 nuts on the lower part of the IM that have almost NO way of getting any good access to turn them:2up:

i mean, i can get the socket on the nut and i have access to it (kinda) but the HARD thing is, actuallly making the thing twist without stripping it.

what kind of car is it? If it's a honda/acura, go under the car and remove the nuts. I would also replace the studs while you have the intake manifold off. Get a stud remover. Over the past few years I have broke about 20 intake manifold studs when running aftermarket intakes.

Get some blaster or wd40 and spray on there and let it sit for like 20 minutes, and if you can get the socket on their it should break loose with no problems.

yeah, its a Honda B18a1 that im trying to remove.

EDIT: also, my problem isnt the actual breaking part... its getting the space to turn the wrench so i can break it...

get it up off the ground as far off as ya can...(3ton stands) like 24 in i think? then soak'em with wd40 and let it sit as said b-4 then i usually use a impact socket with the long-handled wrench to add extra leverage!! i know its a pain in the a$$ really!!!! but jus trying to help.

UPDATE... one more Q;

how do i take off the one last nut that is located in the very middle of the manifold, located a little bit toward the top??

I kinda stripped it a little earlier today by using a 1/2" wrench whn i shoulda used a 12mm wrench/socket. Now, im trying to get a socket in there, but it just wont go because the fuel rail holder thing is in the way. again...

I use a snap on LONG 12mm wrench boxed end ...an a small ratchet stubby with a short 12mm socket also or swiffle socket...BTW its not a 2 hour job I can take any honda intake mani off in 15 mins

lol, well for me? still in the learning stage/never been to school for it, i was planning on 2 hours.... but so far, its turned into a 9 hour job.... and will last into tomorrow afternoon too more than likely...:( ...o well. Slow learning ftw...

Also, i got every other nut off. Theres literally ONE nut holding me back. It also happens that the particular nut is halfway stripped, and im being really careful to not strip it, esp. in the cramped quarters of the engine bay.

You can Buy a stripped bolt/nut remover from sears if its that bad....

FasTech

You might have to un hook the Fuel rail and move it out the way if ^ idea doesn't work..... Can't belive you stripped it out........lol j/k.... But let me know if that doesn't work

lol, fuel rail is out already. its like the actual part of the manifold thats molded in which has the stud for the rail sticking out of it thats in the way.

Cuz i can get a socket on the nut from the bottom, but cant turn it b/c my swivel joint gets lodged in the space. Cant turn it from the top b/c my socket is too fat to fit in.

I never unbolt the fuel rail just the line....Also you can take a flat chissle an hammer the nut of if your good ...I done them before where customers bring there car in after they tried to take it off an then stripped the nut, I use the nut stripper before an I used a chissle an a hammer but remember the nut is very soft so dont go crazy with the hammer....What you do is cut threw the nut then on hammer it down in the direction of Left'y Lose'y

Well I didn't mean the entire fuel rail, but ^his chissle idea will work had to do it to the locking lug nuts that were on my car when I first bought it because the guy who sold it to me didn't have the tool for it......... but be careful, has busted knuckles written all over it if you get carried away with the hammer.

ooo, well my fuel rail = already been unbolted lol....

and i kno what you're saying. my nut isnt that bad, but another thing... how would you even be able to fit the nut stripper thing in there?? i can barely even get my socket in there! Theres no way i could get my stripped nut remover thing in there...
