View Full Version : Power Mods Quick Q on my turbo setup.

I'm building a turbo setup for my Z6 swaped crx and was wondering if upgrading the injectors needs to be done. Curent injectors are the A6 injectors still using the resistor box. I do have the Z6 injectors if there better.

I'll be running

Z6 stock internals with Port and Polished head and intake mani. 65mm JG thotal body

Turbo is a TD05 internaly wastegated at 7 psi (I will only be running this, I have no plans on running more boost)

I have a P28 chiped with crome pro.

I've heard that 450cc dsm injectors are what most people run but what is involed in running these. I know you have to bord out the injector seals to fit then in the intake mani.

any help would be great thank

trim the little rubber seals and the resistor box + a basemap is all u need

we did this on isa2o3's z6 on here.

I know about the seals but what about the resistor box? I've read that people with the A6 setup(injector and resisor box) just poped in the DSM injectors and they work is that true?

Yes keep the resistor box with the dsm 450s.

I'm not looking to make killer power just more that I am now. I'm really just looking to build something fun and the extra HP is a bonus.

would the 450cc or 550cc injectors be better on this setup?

green91

450cc will easily supply enough fuel for your goals and are much cheaper unless you can find rx7 injectors.

Mad Mike
05-15-2008, 08:51 AM
and the 450 are drop in other than the seals which can be bored out. 450cc it is.

Now for the oil drain mount tot the oil pan other than welding a fitting on has anyone used these. If so where did you get them because the ones in the pic are $65.

sorry for all the dumb Qs but out of all the 6,8,10,12 an fittings witch one is or is clostest to 3/4"? Trying to figgure out the the oil drain to oil pan. The turbo has a 3/4" hose comming off it for a drain so I need to find the fitting thats the same.
I think I'll use this

with this
http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/sum-220713_w.jpg

just need to know what size barbed fitting to match up with the 3/4" hose fitting on the turbo.

sorry about all the Q pics and descripitions on wed pages

6an is close to 3/4 your going to want to run smaller to the turbo feed, too big the pressure will be too high, on return you can run whatever, i can weld the bungs in the oil pan if you would rather have that done? i'm local so let me know. oh and use only earls fittings, i have never had much luck with anything else...

Mad Mike
05-15-2008, 10:02 AM
yea the 6AN is only for the oil drain. I ordered the oil feed lines that are 3/8"

I'm going to order the weld in fitting like this
http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/ear-997106erl_w.jpg
and run the 6 AN 45* Earl's fitting to the turbo drain.

blue tops going for 100+ bux. what happend to 25-50.

the black tops are 2g injectors

all u got to do to make it work is to take the seals off your stock injectors. get a dremel carefully bore it till it fits the dsm injectors. thats it everything else is plug and play.

this might help a lil

http://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech_projects/dsm_injectors/index.html

edit: might need to change your clips also

i never used the black top ive always used the blue. obd2 ive had to change clips to make them work. on your u might have to change clips or cut the tab off the injectors to make them fit.

new Q time!!!1

Its about a t3/t4 turbo setup
on the exhaust side of a t3/t4 there is the exhaust hole and then a small hole. On a internally wastgates t3/t4 does the wastgated exhasut come out the smaller hole?

The problem Im seeing is all the down pipes have a solid flange. I'll post pics

green91
05-22-2008, 10:42 AM
There is a housing that can be bolted on there to convert to an internally wastegated setup. solid flange is used when you are using an external gate.

btw stay away from ebay turbos!!

It sounds cliche but most people that try them end up failing, some people do have good luck but a lot don't. its worth a few extra bucks for a piece of mind that your turbo wont grenade itself and trash your engine.

Mad Mike
05-23-2008, 12:43 AM
thanks for the advice and yea I was just wondering about the down pipe I'm not going to buy any off brand ebay turbos.

05-23-2008, 06:29 PM
yes it comes out of the small hole. you will have to find a factory exhaust housing with a internal gate and make a adapter plate for it to stay internal

Mad Mike
05-23-2008, 09:21 PM
well I think I will be able to use the TD05 that I got for free. I finally got to mock it up on my old motor and figure out what all I need to get the oil to it and out of it. And I think I will be able to fit it with my full size radator.

Is it still a good idea to use the missing links?

Good Q I was wondering if I needed this only running 7 PSI.

Mad Mike
06-01-2008, 10:34 AM
Another question on turboing a d16z6. Can the map senser handle 7 psi of boost or do I need a missinglink or a gm map senser?

Thanks for all the help you all have given me.

green91
06-01-2008, 10:44 AM
Yes the stock map can be used for 7psi if you are using a chipped ecu or AFC hack along with 450cc injectors. The missing link is only used alongside a fmu.

Hey I just wanted to thank everyone that gave me help on some of my noob boost Qs.

The rex is up and running untuned on a turbo base map and testing is going good. Its running great and fast. I went with a TD05 14b and it workes great for a $85 turbo. It only has 1600miles on it to.

Hopeing to get it properlly tuned vary soon.

Thanks for all the help.

My crx has a z6 swap with a port and polished head, intake maniflod and a 65mm TB. now has a xs power manifold, a TD05 14B, custom made downpipe, ebay intercooler kit with a off name greddy BOV, Runing 6-7 PSI. Stock injectors right now with a webro 255 fuel pump and a B@M fuel presure regulater. Ecu is a P28 chiped with chrome.

Sorry about the typing I'm on my phone.

Should take it to Balanced.... 50 miles closer{ not saying i dont like scotty or main stream}to you and ED has been tuning for years longer than any tuner i know....Just do a search youll see he tuns MOST if not all the road race cars at road atlanta , but i have also seen him do some amazing things to my car and others that save my motor , money and made more power that i would have never thought of....... Just my 2 cent...Also those stock injectors are not going to get you far...

He doesnt tune every car at RA, but he does tune a few World Challenge and Grand Am cars along with the hundreds of street cars he has done including mine. What Ed does with tuning can be considered magic.

green91

Dont waste your money trying to have your car tuned on stock injectors. They are at 100% duty cycle right into boost and without running very high fuel pressure arent good for boosted applications

Mad Mike
07-01-2008, 10:06 PM

Small problem.

I barely made it home this morning. Not getting enough air to my radiator and its trying to over heat. Going to cut more of the bumper out and wire my fan to run all the time. will see if that helps.

Also its studering really bad when I give it gas but then it will pick up and be fine. (I'm throwing a code 10 (intake air temp) and 3 (being the map sensor) Also when this happens as I'm giving it gas my AEM wideband is pegging out at 17+ in the red and then when it picks up it goes to around 11-13 in the green. This is with vary little to no boost pressure. I'm still running stock fuel system so as soon as I get my friends crx swapped and out of my garage I'm going to put my in 255lph fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. I'm also getting dsm 450cc injectors next week.

The map was never unhooked and the only thing I did was pu a Y in for the boost gauge. Should I get a missing link and install it?

Goinfasterthanu
07-04-2008, 12:56 PM
lol.......... you dont listen... Mike STOP driving it! Your going to need a fal fan with a shroud to keep it cool with how the RAD is sitting. Stock fan or auto zone fan wont do it. I just went thru this with my car. Other than that STOP DRIVING IT TILL IT GETS ON THE DYNO..Period..... Your going to ruin that motor.......

Mad Mike
07-09-2008, 09:49 PM
ok I'm installing a missing link and with out it the car idles fine. But when I put in the missing link the car wont idle and just dies. I followed the directions and it still wont idle.
Is this right?

missing link is for the 80's turbo setups ... lol ... get it tuned and get the right map sensor for turbo ... some look jus like the oem map sensor and mounts the same and some dont .... like the gm 3 bar map sensor ( which is not the one you want) but it does the same thing that the oem map does but it doesnt register boost and resulting in the CEL .... pm MR.kidd and ask him wut you can do to get away from the missing link .

Goinfasterthanu
07-10-2008, 10:27 AM
How many folks have to tell you..... GET IT TUNED... Stop messing with Fmu's missing links and such . All 80's late 90's stuff... If your car is dying it means the missing link is blocking vacume to the map sensor. Hence its not working right , what ever right is for a missing link . Mike i have known you a long time just call me , been here done this . I can svae you a lot of headache and $ . Get a 3 bar or the new hondata map sensor and get it tuned . That motor isnt built all it takes is 1 detonation and bye bye pistons... Please please stop trying short cuts . When a stock motor is boosted you have VERY little room for error.............Take your time and youll be a lot more happy . I rushed mine and did everything 2 or 3 times almost blew it up ...ect....
