Things that may save you from getting a speeding ticket.
1. Do NOT Speed, I know it is hard but do what I do, accelerate very fast to the speed limit then cruise 5-10 miles over the speed limit.
2. If you are speeding and your radar detector goes off while a cop is traveling in the opposite direction, do not hit your brakes! gear down, or use the E-brake to slow down. Check your rear view mirror, and IF he brakes then make a quick turn and get off the road you were traveling on.
3. Pace other cars that are speeding from behind them. If your radar detector goes off, slow down and let the guy in front of you get the ticket. This typically works when the cop is up ahead of you and the car you are pacing because the cop might not realize you are behind the car you are pacing.
4. Watch for brake lights! If you randomly see brake lights from the cars a half mile ahead of you it might be a good indication that there is a cop/hazard up ahead.
5. If/When you get pulled over, roll down driver/passenger windows and turn on your dome lights (if it is night time/dark out), be respectful and comply with the officers orders, if the cop asks you why you were speeding, tell him
A. "You are on your way an emergency."
B. "You have diarrhea."
C. "You are late for a 3-some." (my personal favorite, not practical, but if the officer has a sense of humor he might get a laugh)

These are some of the things that have saved me from getting tickets.
What else have you guys done that have helped?

Some random things about radar detectors:
One HUGE thing to consider is that a Cop already knows your speed when your radar goes off, unless he is over the top of a hill/around a curve. The only way around this, is if you are in traffic and surrounded by other cars, the cop won't know which car is speeding if he is using radar. But if he is using Laser he will know exactly who was speeding, even if you were speeding in traffic. Most Laser Guns are now equipped with video cameras to record the speeder.

Some things that you might not have known about Radar/Laser:
Radar can be used while the cop is stopped/moving. Laser on the other hand can only be used while the officer is stopped/hidden.

I can see some of them are logically make sense. But those excuses are no way in the hell can fool those cops.

Yeah, This is what one of the BMW guys on another forum said.

A. DenyFixed... deny.

Never admit to a crime. You realize that you have constitutional protection against self-incrimination. I'm not promoting being disrespectful to the police by any means, they're just doing their job. Just as much as you don't want stress at your job, they don't want stress at theirs.

Don't say, "I plead the Fifth!". Just pay very, very close attention to the words these people use. "Do you know why I pulled you over?" is both an un-arming statment from the officer, AND a way to get you to admit to a crime for which he can then ticket you.

"Fifth Amendment

No person shall be held to answer for any capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
I have to agree with him.

The ONLY 2 things that "Commonly True" are #2 & #4.

#1. No speeding ticket, but Aggressive Driving Ticket
#3. Pacing - You can get charged with "Racing". Cop doesn't necessary have to stop the guy in front. He can see clearly that you're traveling the same speed as the other guy. He'll stop the "easier" one first.
#5. NEVER EVER admit to anything, and DON'T EVER CITE or STATE the speed limit in number. Just be smart, but don't admit, don't argue. EVERYTHING YOU SAY can be record (most likely) and use against you in the court.

True and correct info about radar and laser. Radar can be used stationary or moving. Laser has to be stationary. Radar will generally picks up signals from "larger" object. Laser is pin point and generally aims at reflective parts.

Laser Jammers are legal in some stage (Luckily GA is one of them). Radar Jammer is ILLEGAL in US. Most Radar Jammers (selling illegally) on the Market are trash and worthless.

I'm tired. G'night ;)

'On my way to an emergency' my ass! One mofo gave me a ticket even though I him told my eyes had been operated on and that I was headed to the hospital due to haziness in vision. Of course, the fcker sped everything up and dished out the fastest citation in history - the entire drama was over in less than 5 minutes.
My friend uses just one sentence everytime he's pulled over - "my gf has gone into labor at xyz hospital/clinic". It has actually worked a couple of times.

You would be ****ed if he decided to escort you to the xyz hospital/clinic though.

I recommend saying "I was just going with the flow of traffic." Unless you were going way over the limit, in that case, say "I was following you!"

Another thing that helps when you get pulled over is turn off the car, and put the keys on the dash where the cop can see them. Also, keep your hands on the wheel and inform the cop before you make any moves towards your pockets or glove box so he won't think you are grabbing a weapon.

There are literally books written on this very subject, both showing the MYTHS and the FACTS.

First off, there are tons of holes in this. The only real truth to the OP is that if you don't speed, you don't get tickets. After that, everything is subjective. For example, I only go the speed limit when I have to and in school zones. That's it. Anyone that knows me or has seen me on the street can vouch for that. I speed just about everywhere I go. My last speeding ticket was more than 10 yrs ago. How? 1 part luck and 2 parts brains. Seriously. People speed like idiots and then expect RD's and loop holes to get them out of a ticket and fine. That's gay. If you KNOW you were speeding, then just suck it up and pay the piper it's due when/if you get caught. All this....don't hit the brakes....have aluminum foil in the wheels.....it's all mumbo jumbo BS. A cop knows just who is speeding and who isn't when he turns around on you. If you try and run, you'll get caught. If you try and BS, you'll get the ticket anyway. If you try excuses, the only thing it does is make you look gay. I can take, "I didn't realize..." or "I'm moving with the flow of traffic...", but the "I gotta take a dump"???? That's gay. :gay:

things i look out for is people braking ahead of me when there are no turns or no reason for them to. and when oncoming cars flash there head lights or wave. that usuallly points out saying there is a speed trap ahead or most likely just a cop ahead.

when i got my first speeding ticket (and i personally think that everyone deserves to atleast get one ticket) i knew i was speeding and it was because i turned off a road that was moving really slow dew to construction. anyways there was a speed trap and about 4 or 5 other cars got caught while i did. anyways cop came up. asked how fast i was going. i had no clue. gave him everything he asked for. answered all questions nervously cause of first experience. found out that i was actually going 52/30. cop was nice enough to drop to 44/30. said he did it so that it wouldnt boost my parents insurance and so i wouldnt get any point on my license.

it really just matters on the situation. if you get a nice cop, and you are nice and follow directions. he might cut you some slack. if you are rude and stupid about the situation then he wont give a **** about you and get you for everything that you deserve.

Yeah. I can attest to the Never admit to anything verbally. If they say you were doing a certain speed. You can actually ask to see that they had clocked you doing that, and you can ask them to see if their radar gun is calibrated correctly. I had a cop that saw me go through an intersection thinking I was going to fast, but I was just accelerating because a truck decided to make a last second turn and slammed on my brakes so I had stopped and needed to get back up to speed with traffic. When he pulled me over he asked how fast I was going. I stupidly said out how fast I thought I was going, just trying to be the honest guy I am... and then he turned around and said, "Alright well I didn't clock you, but the speed limit is ## and I am going to write you up for *insert said speed here* in a ##." Yeah never doing that again. You can play ignorant, but dont be stupid.

Being a female, or a Criminal Justice major usually works for me. I sometimes think my last name gets me off too. (my fam knows a lot of people at the police/sheriff's department).

I've never tried to talk a cop out of writing me a ticket. I know I was speeding, and deserve the ticket. Last time I got pulled over I was a complete biatch and he let me go with a warning. (Still not sure why he did that....). Of the maybe 8 times I've been pulled over, I've only gotten 3 tickets since the age of 18 (I'm now 22).

racism doesn't overrule laws and fines. period. but did it ever occur to you that if you weren't breaking the law to begin with you wouldn't have had to put up with the white man's oh so mighty oppression stick? probably not, b/c you don't come across as a person who has the ability to think that far ahead in life. try again, the mini white devil wasn't pressing your right foot down, now was he?

if you got the extent of the punishment under a certain law it isn't b/c the white man did it to you....it's b/c you were stupid enough to break the law. so don't blame racism on your stupidity and disregard for the laws. its a cop out, be a man and own up to your wrongs, or shut the **** up.

Man I have lost my license twice and been pulled over way too many times to count and I'm only 19. I don't do more than 5 over anymore cause I can say honestly from all my experiences it all depends on the cop. Once he has you pulled over he can issue you as many tickets as he can find. I have had cops lets me go and I've had cops rip up my license on the spot for the same thing. My advice is to not speed but if you simply must go fast then when you get pulled over, and you will, be nice and hope the cop is nice or just having a good day.

One last note...never let someone tailgating you make you speed up cause the cop will pull you over and not the person behind you, or at least if you drive a 300ZX they will :(

pretty good thread. i got pulled over last night coming home from the Gwinnett Sonic Meet. I was going 10 over. I knew i was speeding, so i told him straight up that i was and he just gave me a warning. It really depends on who pulls you over. Just be Honest. If you deny the charge you might get away from paying XXX the amount but you will waist so many days because of that.Court,Meeting Lawyer,Etc. When you could have worked on those days and made more money out of it.

haha last year, i got pulled over on 85 right at the Beaver Ruin exit. i was clocked doing 115. its s 65. the cop asked me why i was going so fast, and i told him that my electric cooling fan was broke, and if i went any slower my car was going to over heat. in all fairness, it was broken, and i had to manually attach a wire to the positve batter terminal to get it to turn on. that was the icing on the cake. when he asked me to shut of the car and i was like "can i pop the hood and turn of my fan so the battery doesnt die" he just looked at me and told me to go home and stop drivng like a douche bag. not even a written warning. so now, just tell the cops ur car is going to over heat hahaha.
