View Full Version : hey what kind of gain should i expect from a ported IM??

i did a port+polish job on my intake manifold. Ported each runner ~1/2mm on each side to make each one a total of 1mm wider, and ~1mm lower to make the vertical diameter 1mm bigger too. Then, i polished it to a near mirror finish. lol, i only expect it to make ~1 - 2whp more on the dyno, but i was just wondering if i could get a realistic estimate from someone on here of the kind of gain i may get?

I havent installed it yet, so if anyone has any other good tips/suggestions on how to do this, throw em out there:goodjob:

EDIT: i was also thinking about running 310cc injectors from an Acura legend, will this be neccesary or not?

well on lancers anyway, even just a stock ported intake can have gains up to 5%

you didnt state the engine or setup? mods that the p&p would be supporting?

oh oh lol.....i will be supporting...upgrade injectors to 310cc (if neccessary), 2.25" axleback exhaust, intake, and possibly cams on a B18A1 (LS) honda motor. everything else stock. will be boosting it later on.

Hmm what did you use to port the intake manifold?

hit me up when you boost her. :D

lol, i will fer sure bro. I still need a motor rebuild tho before i boost, cuz the compression in it's REALLY low. borderline minimum actually. I was just gonna do piston rings and head gasket.

But yeah. lol, 1 - 5whp is actually exactly what i was expecting:D

Another Q tho; i took the injectors from an Acura Legend v6, those injectors are 310cc's right?? They look almost exactly the same as the stockers:thinking:

edit i might have told u wrong hold on ill double check.

crap. so essentially, theres no point in me "upgrading" injectors then...?

Oh, and another thing; If i were to order an adjustable FPR, would it help anything to up the psi a little with the ported IM?

Basically, stock injectors, ported IM, and higher fuel pressure.
good or bad? help or no help?

to be honest u dont need 1. they are more of a pain in the ass then anything if u dont really need it.

lol well 1, i already ordered it...

2, i guess ill use it for when im boosted. so ill keep it.
ill probably use it anyways currently, b/c ive always wanted to be able to tune my engine and such, PLUS it can tell me if my fuel pump were to go out. Lately, for some reason, vital engine parts required to crank the engine keep breaking or goin out on me. *knocks on WOOD*

EDIT: lol, but yeah^^^.... Will it help for me to up the fuel psi some once i get the ported stuff together??:D

hmm.... save the FPR for later, or just keep it at stock fuel pressure. The guage can help you since you want it. for right now, i wouldn't worry too much about the injectors. intake, exhaust, maybe an S-AFC, stage 1 cams... keep it simple for now. i wouldn't waste too much money on extra's when you can save for that motor rebuild/turbo kit

You should just save up some money and buy a skunk2 intake manifold and when you got your turbo kit on get a skunk2 66mm throttle body and port match the intake mani opening to 66mm.

or just keep it at stock fuel pressure.

Yeah, i was going to do that.

And actually, that sounds like a REALLY good mod plan.:goodjob: I couldnt have thought of it better myself.
