So I bought a new Gateway laptop and it runs Vista Home Premium. When I was using it earlier it had a Recycle Bin Icon (Only Icon I had on the desktop) and now when it boots up it doesnt show it and I cant see how to make it appear. The sidebar icons show (Clock, etc) but not that one icon

What theme are you using? Use the search engine to find it, and create a short-cut. But if it was that easy you probably wouldn't be asking...

Just using the standard theme right now, the one it was set at when I first started it, Just odd that a shortcut would vanish..lol

That is wierd that it just vanished. Maybe it's Skynet...

Went into the icon settings and checked it to show that icon, so fixed now :D

That's odd it's never done that for me but I run business. Have you downloaded all the updates and stuff?

Yeah but mine came with Vista with the SP1 so many of the updates and patches are already installed but I did let it run a update to get anything new, Only had 3 updates to download.

Vista is a tad different than XP thats for sure and that 3D scroll through all your screens I think is more of a gimmick, because how often will you drop down all programs then feel the need to scroll through them all? lol

you'll get used to vista and like it in the end... i'm dual booting it with 4 gigs on my mac desktop and it runs clean as can be. that said, i'm partial to leopard so that's what i use most of the time

I like Vista so far, Just different. Not what Im used to, harder to find things that on 95/98/ME/XP I can find with my eyes closed is hard on Vista

Vista sucks horribly. It will save your downloads one place, but when you try to open them, it looks some where else. Internet explore shuts down all the time. If you try to put it into sleep mode (read as "death mode") it just dies.

sorry. I had to rant. I want XP back and keep my computer warranty. :(

While you're right that vista is the ghey and apple is a bit overrated, linux isn't the ghey...for the most part. I mean, if you don't like the command line and elitist assholes (but they're in the Apple camp too), you should stick to Windoze, but you can't beat the price, and there are quite a few forums were you can find an answer to any question you may have.

EDIT: If I had to chose Windows though, XP Pro>*

The answer is simple: upgrade to Windows XP. I'm sure someone you know has a copy you can install. Microsoft gave up on Vista and have started making new updates for Windows XP for a reason!

ive been running vista for like a year and a half now and have had 0 problems

@brett: next time you're missing an item from your desktop, minimize everything, right click the desktop itself, and hit "refresh". do it once or twice and it should show up.
