So was i chattin with my mom earlier today and she was tellin me that the rice prices are skyrocketing.

A 4$ bag of rice now runs 13 bux... thats 3x the price it was a year ago.... THATS CRAZY... It won't really affect us, but I'm sure there are some people who that'll hit HARD... I don't get why the supply for rice can go down, isn't it teh easiest staple to grow? Or maybe it has to do with the type of rice we get? which is grown in India/Pakistan/Bangladesh

Can it be linked to the oil prices?

we get ethanol from things like corn and rice- both of these staple crops have seen prices blow up lately. This is partly the reason for food riots and other parts of the world.

I was told that there is a rice shortage, and I heard alot of ppl are buying them up and shipping it back to their home. And my family in the Philippines cant even buy rice b/c of the ridiculous prices.
Oh yea the asian markets here where i am are trying to sell a 20 pound bag of rice > $35-$45...

i remember when the 10lb bags used to be 9.99 OR LESS (depending on brand/quality) but at most 10 bux...

those have skyrocketed, and they dont even sell the 40lb bags any more at the paki stores.

Its because there is a huge problem with rat infestation right now in Asia where the majority of that rice is coming from.
