It's simple science. If you burn more calories a day than your body takes in, you LOSE WEIGHT. If you burn the same amount of calories your body consumes, then you stay the same weight, and if you CONSUME more calories than your body burns in the long run, you gain weight.
So the best method(Although it seems hard) is to diet and exercise, wait no scratch that, I hate the word DIET, because DIET's fail and are a quick fix for quick results that are soon lost there after.
Eat Healthier, CARBS: your body's main source of fuel, and provides the brain, with the fuel it needs to think and react quickly, so the good carbs are the following.....(COMPLEX CARBS)
Oatmeal(Plain, No Instant, Add Natural Honey or fruit to make taste better)
Sweet Potato
Brown Rice
Fiber one cereal(Provides your whole days worth of fiber if you eat 1 cup of it a day)
Whole grain wheat bread(Watch out for imitations, read labels, if there is ONE ingredient that says HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP....Do NOT eat it, , it is a man made sugar syrup that your body has a hard time breaking down and , metabolizing and it SPIKES your insulin levels leading to fat storage.
Broccoli, asparagas, anything green that's a veggie, is LOW CAL, contains, tons of vitamins, minerals and FIBER, FIBER makes you feel full longer.
PROTEIN: Protein,Proteins are large organic compounds made of amino acids, basically what this is, it is the BUILDING BLOCKS OF LIFE! It repairs and rebuilds muscle tissue and is also vital for proper BRAIN function.
When I first started lifting weight and trying to gain muscle, I would eat Steak burgers from steak and shake, and justify eating it, because of the 40 grams of protein it had. But the one thing is, when you eat protein with HIGH saturated FATS, it slows down the body's process of breaking down protein, meaning it basically hinders muscle growth for the guys tryin to put the size on.
Best sources of protein include: Eggs, Skinless Boneless Chicken Breast, Tuna, Salmon(Also High in essential fats), Lean ground turkey and Whey protein drink/shake.
NOTE: although beans and peanut butter do contain protein, they are whats called "Incomplete Proteins" because they do not contain the 18-20 amino acids that are found in other foods and supplements. It has been said to make these protein's complete, eat with whole wheat bread(Real bread) and you should get more amino's with that combo.
FATS: People think fats are bad, NOT ALL FATS ARE CREATED EQUAL!!!
Olive Oil, Raw Nuts(Of any kind really), Saflower oil, flax seed oil and the fats found in FATTY fish like SALMON are really good fats for you and help lower risks of heart disease.
Think of it like this. Saturated fats at room temp are SOLID, and Poly, Mono, etc are liquid at room temp. Which one do you think will hurt your body??? Water goes down your drain in your bathroom sink just fine, but keep clogging it up with HAIR and you will need to get it repaired DOWN THE LINE!
Stay away from trans fats, added sugar, high fructose corn syrup.
The reason US (Humans) have such a big sweet tooth, is due in fact to SURVIVAL purposes!! Are body's evolved a sweet tooth in the begining stages of life, to seek out high vitamin and high CALORIE food like Fruits, veggies, Honey, Maple syrup, etc.
It helped us survive when we could not eat for days, eating high calorie fast acting foods like honey, maple syrup, etc.
So next time you want to eat a snickers or a cookie, grab some honey, fruit, etc. it will satisfy the beast within, and your body will thank you for it.
Not only eating healthy helps you lose weight, gain muscle, etc. But it makes you feel better. You'll have more energy, your mood will be better and you'll think more clearly.
When you eat good, your blood sugar levels stay normal, but when you skip meals, and eat BAD, your Pancreas secretes a lot of INSULIN making you feeling tired and foggy minded.
Also the more INSULIN you secrete the more FAT STORAGE your likely to have, along with the long run risk of getting diabetes.
Why, you make sure to eat 4-6 meals a day, I can GUARANTEE you that you will have more energy, be more alert, and have better days.
Not to mention REV up your METABOLISM, think of your body like a BON FIRE, everytime you throw wood in the fire the fire ignites more and more, the same goes for your body, You eat and your metabolism ignites. NOW this is not saying to go out and BINGE on whatever every 2-4 hours, but eat real, nutrient dense calories.
If you bought a brand NEW CAR, that you have always wanted and you LOVED this car so much, Would you FUEL it with PISS? No you wouldn't, you would want the best fuel for the car, the same goes for your body.
Here's what I eat everyday...with some stuff added here and there but nothing "outside" my food choices from the group listed above
(my goals are to gain 15-20lbs of muscle and get down to 3% body fat, I'm already @ 200lbs, I wanna be between 215-220...but be ripped as hell!)
Breakfast:
1 cup of regular oatmeal(not instant) w/almond butter
egg whites
apple sauce
low fat milk
Mid-morning snack:
Protien bar
Lunch:
Grilled chicken and a salad w/lite dressing
or Tuna wrap(albacore tuna)
Water
Mid-Afternoon snack:

btw, I work out 6 days a week twice a day...different groups each day, cardio in the AM and lifting in the PM (its therapeutic for me)

The diet was borrowed from ryan reynolds (blade 3, smokin aces, van wilder) who gained 20lbs of muscle and got down to 3% body fat in 3 months time on this diet and a 6 day a week workout plan.

well that'll do it dude, you still need to eat what I listed though..Just because its got everything essential for your body..I'm gaining weight something serious, but I'm shredding body fat...does that mean I'm losing weight? HELL NO! Just remember Muscle weighs more than FAT!! If your looking to gain weight..thats the diet to roll with..b/c its got everything you need...
Make sure you get 1gram of protien for every pound you weigh each day at a minimum

That sounds like a pretty sound diet plan. I am really gonna try to get in good shape this summer, so I might give that a try.
Also, when looking around the 'net, all I could find was that people accused Reynolds of getting implants, but he always denied it. Apparently he had crazy trainers and worked out 6 days a week, doing anywhere from 500-1000 sit ups each day, along with other ab exercises.

for the most part not a bad write up but just one thing, there is NO WAY to lose fat AND gain muscle AT THE SAME TIME. you're either losing fat (along w/some muscle, whether you like it or not) or gaining muscle.

first off...theres no way in hell he got ab implants...Bodybuilding.com is a forum where you take the good stuff like the workout plans nutrition etc...and you leave it at that...everything else on that forums like 98% bullsh*t..I promise he didn't get Ab implants...
And to be honest he's not a big guy, he just looks big from being so ripped...he's like 6'2" and only 185lbs...thats not big man, you can get that size in that amount of time w/out steroids

I bet those pics weren't taken very far apart (time wise) and to be honest he's not that much bigger in the 2nd picture...

let me rephrase, if you start taking creatine and stop at any point, you will lose strength. so i guess if you're ok w/that and accept those "terms" then it's fine.

Not ENTIRELY true..creatine helps with endurance more than strength. It depends on the creatine you take that will do that, because a lot of creatines are mixed with a million different other suppliments which give you a serious strength boost. I understand where you are coming from, because I have been there but if you find the right stuff, cycle on one month and off one month, you won't lose strength, your body won't "need" it, and you size will stay the same even when you stop taking it at some point because you have trained your body hard enough. You don't lose size/strength when you get off, its mostly in your head believe it or not. Creatine is produced naturally in your body already, and adding more creatine gives you a "swoll" look as well as endurance to lift more! Which in turn makes you stronger IN TIME.
So while you make get tired faster when you stop taking the stuff, you'll just have to adjust your workout to it...But your strength hasn't changed.

yea i know that diet will work..i need a boost though..i think once i'm close to finished with the nighttime fat burners, ill use that diet plan. i have to talk to her about that so she can know whats up and what needs to change. cuz this layer of fat is pissing me off like a weak kidney. i'm trying to get regular on my total gym, i've started monday..i gota do my ab workouts too..but i've done upper body movements..need to do lower body and abs

first off, creatine does not in any way build endurance, creatine supplements your bodies ability to fuel your anaerobic muscles, the "fast" muscles if you will that requires no oxygen at the time of use, but only afterwards (think, help you sprint vs help you marathon).
second, it's proven you will lose strength and certain size (anywhere from 2-7lbs) just from the water weight that was retained in your muscles.

Sorry I didn't specify. CREATINE Esthyr(spll?) is not a monohydrate which HOLDS WATER WEIGHT which is exactly what you are talking about. I take a creatine via pill NOT power b/c I hold water badly. and if its "proven" then explain to me how my bench went up 15lbs the following off month? I was @ 250lbs when on creatine, and hit 265lbs when I wasn't taking anything at all....you don't lose strength..the ****s in ur head
And as far as the comment on "you can gain muscle adn lose weight at the same time" is a load of ****.Your knowledgable to an extent, but dude you've got a lot to learn. Burning and building really depends on what your working. If I wanna get to 3% body fat and rip then I diet, and work my abs and do sprints(not long distance b/c that actually burns muscle instead of fat) and I build else where...Where ever you heard you can't bulk and rip at the same time..is a load of sh*t..
Now if your saying that your not going to lose weight while building muscle I'll take that. But you can still shred body fat. In turn looking leaner/stronger/healthier. Which is most peoples goal. I mean honestly, who the hell wants to just be skinny with no muscle on them? Very few people. When people say "I wanna lose weight" thats translated into "I wanna lose body fat" or "I wanna be lean" etc. It's all about eating healthy, training hard and resting in between. Getting lean doesn't necessarily mean "lose weight". I have a client right now that came to me(he's 17 years old and 225lbs @ 6 foot 1 inchess tall, and 16% body fat) He said " I wanna be ripped but still have muscle. In 1 months time he's lost 8lbs(I've got him till the end of july) and he is toning up big time. He's on the same diet I have posted above and works with me only 3 days a week. His goal is to cut his body fat percentage in half...He's well on his way. Different things work for different people but leaning out and bulking you CAN do at the same time, it just depends on what your working and how you work it and what you "fuel" youself with(eating, suppliments etc)

fair enough that you're taking the pill. and when i said you go off it, i meant you're off it for good. being off for 1 month is recommended and of course you're not going to "lose" anything if you're being off as part of the plan.

to lose fat, what do you have to do? lots of cardio, eat a low carb/low fat/lower calorie diet, and lift. to gain muscle, little or no cardio, eat a high calorie/higher carb/higher fat/higher protein diet, and lift. do you not see how these 2 are almost exactly the opposite? the only ppl that can "do both at the same time" to any sort of efficient degree are those how have never lifted or worked out much before, and at that point, they WILL see some positive results. however, for those that have worked out or exercised, you're 100% better off losing fat to tone, then lifting to gain.
i do agree that different things can work for different ppl bc everyones body is different, but i'm speaking for the majority of the population here. the fact of the matter is, not everyone can be a ryan reynolds and have their personal trainer and afford to put in 2-3 hrs of working out every day and have all the right supplements and food.
and lastly, i can't tell if you're 18 or 28 from the way you're posting here...but being that this isn't the WL, please show a little respect and lay off the "this is bull****, that's total crap, you have a lot more to learn" type comments.

As far as the actual workout plan is concerned, I respectfully disagree when you speak of losing fat and building muscle. You can lift heavy and do a lot of cardio and eat right. Its just not something over night. And your right you will see LESS results in the beginning but with time(just like anything else) you will see bigger results. Its all a matter of diet. I know plenty of people who have gained weight and shredded fat by doing about 30 minutes of cardio and lifting heavily and eating right
The key to everything is how you eat. Yes you can do a ton of cardio and lose fat, and yes you can lift heavy and get big. But if you wanna do BOTH you have to eat properly. Nutrition is 80% of it..no joke.

i understand that diet is way more important than just the workout aspect. w/that said, i still believe for the majority of the population, the effort involved (as in, the necessary dieting and amount of working out) in burning fat and gaining muscle at the same time is not really feasible/doable. i mean obviously it CAN be done (ryan reynolds is an example of it), but isn't necessarily something that MOST ppl can do, whether it be $ wise, time wise, discipline wise or effort wise.

I had deja vu when I read this thread. This is the same speech and diet print out that my trainer gave me on Monday...good stuff. I started as soon as I got home and you wouldn't think in just 2 days you'd feel a difference, but I can. I thought at first I would be hungry and starve without any sugar, but I am surprised at how full I am ALL day/night...
He also has me on no dairy with the exception of cottage cheese and no form of carbs after 4 pm-period!

Yeah I hear ya on how it isn't really feasible/doable for a lot of people..But you can see drastic changes in your physical health/appearance by spending an hour a couple of days a week(3-6 depending on your sched.) and eating properly(which is just a matter of dicipline).
You really dont need a trainer or have to be one to get into great condition by building muscle and burning fat @ the same time. Its just a matter of research and will power..And if you can fit it into your daily routine. I mean I have granted I am in real estate and a trainer. But before I became I trainer I was already in decent shape and was MAKING time for things ontop of working 60 hrs a week.

actually...like right now i feel a lil more energetic..the fat burner must have helped alot so far..i mean thats teh only thing i've taken..but the first night i got back on the total gym..by chest and arms was bulging again..like 30mins later is was back to ol reg shiz..but last night and today..its still pretty..'showy'
but i'monly using the burner right now as i'm trying to burn off this fat first, then ill get on the lean..i dont know if i wana mess w/ that supplement that gets rid of water though..

I had deja vu when I read this thread. This is the same speech and diet print out that my trainer gave me on Monday...good stuff. I started as soon as I got home and you wouldn't think in just 2 days you'd feel a difference, but I can. I thought at first I would be hungry and starve without any sugar, but I am surprised at how full I am ALL day/night...
He also has me on no dairy with the exception of cottage cheese and no form of carbs after 4 pm-period!
the don't eat this or that after a certain time is a myth! as long as you have calories left as part of your daily plan it doesn't matter what time you eat it, carbs or not.

Yeah I hear ya on how it isn't really feasible/doable for a lot of people..But you can see drastic changes in your physical health/appearance by spending an hour a couple of days a week(3-6 depending on your sched.) and eating properly(which is just a matter of dicipline).
You really dont need a trainer or have to be one to get into great condition by building muscle and burning fat @ the same time. Its just a matter of research and will power..And if you can fit it into your daily routine. I mean I have granted I am in real estate and a trainer. But before I became I trainer I was already in decent shape and was MAKING time for things ontop of working 60 hrs a week.
But I definitely understand where you are coming from with everything:goodjob:
absolutely agree on the bolded points. i mean i guess that's why ppl get trainers, bc they don't want to/can't do the research on their own and might not necessarily have the willpower and discipline to stick to something like this one their own. i'm not going to lie, i've been on my plan for about 2 months now and the sh1t isn't easy, there are always days you want to cheat or might not want to work out.

It's funny, everytime I make an attempt at getting in great shape, I always refer to that Men's Health about Ryan Reynolds for motivation.
My biggest problem is always maintaining motivation. For instance, a few weeks before Spring break this year I got in an extremely good rythm of eating right and working out (yes, I realized that I wouldn't be able to transform in 3 weeks time). Well I definitely started to notice a difference with the way I felt, my lifting was increasing, etc. The problem was, right after Spring break I just lost all of my drive. This has happened to me so many times. Whether it's going out of town for a week, getting sick, just a really busy week where I can't make time to get to the gym, they all just sabotage me. Then another couple of months go by and I start from scratch again.

i have had many people around me that work out and are hudge/ripped say that if you just need to eat as much as you can, especially if you are trying to put on weight, no matter what it is, just eat as much as you can and then you can start getting all the fat off as you go. thats how im doing that, im already ripped to an extent, anymore ripped and i would weird as **** on a small frame. so now im just eating as much as i can putting on as many calories as i can to get in size. then i can work out the fat later.
i take supplements on a seldom basis. may use something like black powder or NOxplode if im tired from a long day to help me lift. but other then that i jus use protien and what not.
there are many different things when it comes to working out, it all depends on what you goal is.
mine for instance is just that im looking to get bigger. i started off at 6'3 156 lbs and am now 175. i wana be up to atleast 180 to 200 atleast by fall if possible.

not really..thats not my goal right now..my MAIN goal is to burn/get rid of this layer of fat on my stomach and get real toned..after i reach that goal i want to gain weight..get back up to 200(current weight 205-210lbs) w/ pure muscle..so i'm not building right now, so thats why i can get away w/ working on the total gym

if that's the case then even more reason to work out earlier on during the day. working out helps get your metabolism working harder, gives you energy during the day to continue burning fat even after you're done. less of an effect if it's late at night and you're going to bed anyway. i mean if it's the ONLY time you can fit it in, it's better than nothing, but if possible i'd make it earlier on during the day to help yourself hit that goal faster.

yea truthfully thats about the only time i have to do it..i mean we do basketball..but we havent been on that in a long time..besides i hate to take two showers..so i do it right before i shower that night and dont work out during the day..i could do a quick workout in the morning..but..i'm always pushed for time

Why is that? Not being sassy, just that I am new to this whole workin out thing...I am just following what he says to do. For me it is working so far.

because your body doesn't digest or process foods you eat differently depending on the time of day. it does make a difference in that bc foods give you calories that give you energy, eating later on doesn't BENEFIT you in anyway. but say your daily allotment of calories is 2000, and you've only had 1500 and come 10pm you want to eat, by all means, go ahead and eat bc it's under your limit. but at the same time, know that eating then means you get energy you might not necessarily need and/or could in fact keep you from falling asleep (bad thing). hope that makes more sense.

because your body doesn't digest or process foods you eat differently depending on the time of day. it does make a difference in that bc foods give you calories that give you energy, eating later on doesn't BENEFIT you in anyway. but say your daily allotment of calories is 2000, and you've only had 1500 and come 10pm you want to eat, by all means, go ahead and eat bc it's under your limit. but at the same time, know that eating then means you get energy you might not necessarily need and/or could in fact keep you from falling asleep (bad thing). hope that makes more sense.

I will try that! I really don't care what the scales say, just care how I feel about what I see in the mirror. Last spring/summer I was just walking, riding my bike and working on my core and butt. But...I got lazy through the holidays and things kind of 'fell' :( if ya know what I mean, so I am just trying to tighten everything back up, get my abs and butt back in shape, lol. Definition, I guess is what I am after. I don't want to start looking "built".
I think my trainer is used to working with guys that are wanting to get big and bulk up. Being an ex-pro wrestler, I think that is what he has more experience in.

1.Be yourself.Don't try to be other people. 'ryan reynolds,The rock,vin diesel ect ect as your motivation.Set your own goal.You won't be disappointed that way.Take your pic.anterior,posterior and lateral side. Make it ur wallpaper!tht's the best motivation ever!
2.Like the guy said, eat right!tht's the main thing.No matter how much you work out..if you don't eat right,it's useless.I've been down that route before.You ended up wasting your time and stop working out completely after that.
3.You wanna get big,lift big. 3 sets of 4-6 reps. If you can do that than move on to a heavier weights.
4.Do your cardio! There's no use if you are big and cut and you are out of breathe running 1 mile. It's the same thing as you are cut on top but have chicken legs.Balance it out that way no one will :lmfao: @ you saying you are a retard.
5.Supplements..( if you taking work out seriously).Some of you may disagree.I used to think that it's useless before I tried it, but it does help me after I tried some. You don't have to get the whole nine yards.Get the basic.
-Protein shakes
-multivitamin
-glutamine/BCAA
At the beginning of the year, I was all crazed up abt supplements. Took the whole animal pak kits(multivitamin,pump,dietpills,stak and stak 2) along with nano vapor. I was having palpitation during that period. Endurance level dropped down. Can't run as far as I used to.Imsonia because of the amount of caffeine in it.Right now I'm completely off of it.I'm back to my regular endurance and even better time. 60 mins 7.5 mile at the cardio every time in the morning when I get off. 13.41 climbing 55 storeys at climb atlanta with full turnout gear. took of almost 4 mins from last year time. My strength is the same without using the pills.
6.Set your goal.In a short period of time.Eg; 1 month target 4-5 lbs off.Be realistic.
Good luck.If you wanna work out partner/trainer I'm usually at Johns creek LA 8 am-10 am for my cardio and arnd 6pm-9pm for bodybuilding.

It was just an example of how someone (most people would know) got to there goals. Different things work for different people. Vizualization is KEY!! I have figured this out the hard way over the past 3 yr's. Now i am back in my on little corner trying to figure out why i can help and make a guy cut 35 ibs in 2 months but i can't do it myself and be able to lift the same.
The key to working getting in shape and be the total package is being the best pound for pound that your body comes with natural.Not tryin to build to be way bigger than your frame will allow are go smaller than u should be because then u loose mass and energy.I have never been ripped in the stomach but i done been to my peak at everything else. got off "mass stack" and now 1 yr later i am a fat ass because i didnt keep going. Do yourself a favor don't even start unless u going all the way:goodjob:

Depands on the output. U can try to drink a gallon.I used to, but I got tired waking up 3-4 times in the middle of the night to pee.Look at ur activities level.If u did a lot of cardio in the morning and sweat a lot than drink alot.That's how I figure mine out.

I just suggested a diet that is proven to work considering it includes everything essential for your body. Outside of that, the workout thread I made was simply to see who all does what and why. Kinda like bodybuilding.com
Also a great way to learn is youtube
You can see bodybuilders do certain workouts, try em out and see how they work..That to be honest has helped me the most when it comes to the internet.

but on the real, i dont really think i'm 'genetically' cut out to be like where i am right now. thats like..my muscles about to take shape of where i left off when i stopped working out before. my father was big and i was following right behind him when i graduated high school, then i lost 80+lbs..so...i'm trying to finish cuttin all the fat off, then move on to building some muscle. i'm trying to make sure i drink at least one protein shake a day. i also need to find some recipes for salmon and tuna so i can add that to my diet

and make a tuna wrap or tuna sandwhich...dont use mayo or pickles or relish or ne of that crap...and check ANY food's ingredients for HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP!! A LOT of bread has this...even protien bars have it...it spikes ur insulin levels and stores fat(thats bad). EVEN SALAD DRESSING HAS THIS IN IT!!!

organic sauces and dressing
organic butter
natural honey(sweeten stuff up)
do that and your good to go

I dont rmr if its good for you.. but i know its like barely any calories. 1 Tbspn is like 5 calories or something?
Tuna is really good with light mayo, celery, and a lil vinegar for flava.
Eat it as a sandwich, with crackers, celery.. fork? Bread probably being the most filling. But if your trying to stay healthy get healthy bread too cause bread or even crackers will make you stack up carbs and calories pretty quick.

Its not bad for you.
I eat tuna in a ton of different ways, but you just have to be careful of how much and often you eat it.
Tuna salad: 2 cans of tuna (yellow fin is the best), 1 boiled egg (chopped up), 1/2 cup chopped cabbage, 1/2 cup chopped celery, 1/4 cupchopped red onions, 2-3 table spoons of Conola Mayo and sometimes a hint of dijon mustard (to add some sweetness like relish would). This is great for everything from a sandwich to a wrap to just eating it plain. Its full of fiber and protein as well as tastes damn good.
or
2 cans of Tuna, half a cup brown rice and 1/4 italian dressing. this is what i used to eat 2-3 times a day while cutting weight/bulking up for wrestling season. Its a taste you sometimes have to get used to, but after awhile i really liked it.
or
Spicy Tuna Fillet: 1/3 cup olive oil, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper, 1/3 cup lemon juice, minced 3 large shallots, minced 2 teaspoons ground cumin, 1 bunch cilantro, leaves only, finely chopped
6 (6 ounce) pieces of tuna fillet, and Vegetable oil for greasing the grill. Cook on a super hot grill, only leaving it on long enough to "warm" the middle. Serve with some brown rice or baked potato, it is so good! this is something you can even wow a gf with on a "stay at home date" and still eat healthy yourself
or the hundred of other ways to eat tuna healthy......just try and stay away from using too much mayo with it......you'll find tuna is so much better with other items added to it
I'm on a very similiar "diet/work out routine" to the one originally posted. Though i only work out 4-5 times a week and only once a day taking the weekends off usually. In about a months time i've gone from 175 to 162. Thats just changing my diet while having kept the same work out routine. No more Soda's (finally broke my caffene addiction) eat smaller portions 4-5 times a day, and not eat till im full, and am getting more and more careful of what i eat/drink. I havent had fast food an entire month now and it really shows :D

I want an S6..but it's looking like a 05 A6...they aren't too bad (high 20's w/mid-mileage)..I've considered getting a 04 S4 but I need something less sporty for real estate.

alittle more so then a publix or Krogers, but thats the price of eating healthy. imo its worth that extra bit of money to eat something i know its good for me......plus it still trips me out to this day, everytime i go in that place. It has everything you could ever think of. Any real man gets a semi just walking down the meat/butcher section :D
