Which automaker do you NEVER see yourself owning as a primary vehicle. By Never i mean "The Chances of ownership are slim to none" - and by Primary vehicle, I mean the car that you own and honor.

My TOP PICK: Hyundai

Explanation:

I respect them because as an automaker, they managed to break into the hardest possible business (Automobile Manufacturing) while making a decent name for themselves. They provide relatively reliable transportation for a relatively low price.

Although they've managed do this, i could never take pride in owning one since most of their styling appears to be derived from other styling departments and they simply come off as "generic."

p.s
Yeah Chevy is spelled wrong and I combined/seperated some - sue me.

Use OTHER for FORD (not sure how i left them out?)

I probably will never own a Honda. I love Imports, have had Nissan and Subaru before. I have had new Civic rentals, have driven other Hondas in the past including an S2k, and never really fell in love with them. Im sure they are good cars, but not something I would ever own.

Boring stuff to me.

My reasoning:

Chrysler- too boring
Dodge- nothing better than other auotmakers
Kia- no expanation necessary
Lincoln- mercedes or lincoln? ...thats easy
Mitsubishi- Evos are cool, but these guys need to learn that people are INSIDE these cars! I mean dam!
Saab- I don't see me ever caring to own one
Saturn- I have no respect for this company, and no reasoning to justify it
Volvo- same as SAAB

Now, I will say that I don't see myself being ABLE to go WITHOUT a Nissan one of these days. That is not where my brand loyalty lies, but there are too many Nissans/Datsuns that I can't live without. I can gaurantee that I will own a Nissan/Datsun/Infiniti.

No doubt about it, however, it seems like that particular automaker lacks substance of their own.

It is standard practice to "borrow" styling cues from a fellow automaker but at least pioneer your own design from time to time you know?

The was a Kia Sorento that imitated the BMW look, It was mainly this design that Killed it for me man (Wannabe BMW Kidney Grill Status)

I understand that they have to do what they have to do to compete but it just happens to annoy people.

That's the most ass backward logic I've ever seen. So, you think Kia and Hyundai WANT to pay for you to get you crap fixed? Try again. Trying to get warranty work done on most cars is like asking to get kicked in the nuts by a Brazilian goalkeeper - you'll get what you want, but it's gonna hurt. I don't particularly care for either brand, hell, most of the time I forget they both exist, but don't go knocking a product just because they offer a good warranty. It shows a lack of common sense.

yes i do think they sell it because they need it. i worked at a mazda/kia dealership in the past as a service advisor. thank you. reguardless of your logic it is offered because it is needed. i dont know if they recently got there **** together to have the confidence to offer it. Im sure they dont want to, or enjoy having to pay for warranty work. but im sure they know that to sell automobiles in the future, due to the past reputation they have developed for themselves as "unreliable". they needed to offer some peace of mind.

Im pretty sure hes saying they are piece of **** cracker jack cars dude.. there is kia's that go for like 8 grand brand new, they offer the 100k mile warranty be cause the quality of the parts is low, and thats how they keep the price low. Is that difficult to understand?

You could buy a USED honda for 8 grand, hell you could buy one for like 5 with 120k miles on it put another hundred on it and still have a good running car..

oh and most chryslers like the dodge ram, the srt-4 the neon and the pt cruiser experience a tranny issue in their lifetimes therefore they offer a decent waranty im pretty sure the lifetime was a recent one but whatever, chrysler owns and has one of the highest stock values lol.. if not the highest.

And while we are on the subject of JITB's car, there's a big difference between the American Escort and the European Escort. The American Escort was found around the world with 2 different names, Escort (in North America) and Laser (everywhere else). The european Escort was built specificly for europe, engines and all. And the Escort Cosworth is only related to the Ecort by chassis only. Hell, it's engine sits north/south vs east/west for the others. It was a purpose built car. basicly a one-off project that sold in limited numbers.

Kia
Mercades

Here's why....

Hyundai...just isn't attractive, too cheaply built and fwd ftl.

Kia...its a kia enough said..

Mercades...okay...they are nice overall...But are HANDS DOWN the most over-priced cheaply built machines on the face of the earth. They break every other time you drive it, its $200 for an oil change, and $2000 for a catalytic converter...I mean COME ON! They have SOME clean rides but once again are so expensive that even if you actually can afford one, you never drive it cuz you know when you service it, its going to cost you $5000...

I used to be a hardcore lexus guy(hence why I hate mercades), but I'm now REALLY into BMW, Porsche, Audi...Some can say the same about these other companies, but I've never seen more issues with a car and cost an arm and a leg, than a Benz

I voted Saab. The newer ones seem to be alright. But like every journalist says "quirky."

I'm not going to put it in reverse every time I want to take the key out.

The older ones look like shoes.

In Hyundai's defense, their quality has really improved in the past few years. I had an 07 Sonata when I went out of town on business and I was really impressed with how comfortable it was. The V6 definitely has enough power to get out of its own way. I would drive a Hyundai everyday.

But not an Accent, because they look like jelly beans.

In Hyundai's defense, their quality has really improved in the past few years. I had an 07 Sonata when I went out of town on business and I was really impressed with how comfortable it was.

There's a distinction. Do you mean cars made by American companies (Cerberus, GM, Ford) or cars made in the US (most Hondas/Nissans and what not, including the probable place of manufacture of your EG).

Probably a Honda. Or any other foreign piece of junk..

Sorry, but Chevy makes a damn good vehicle. Corvette ZR1 is ridiculous. You can't get a better car for your money. Their gas trucks, run forEVER. I beat the living crap out of mine every day. The Chevrolet 350 is the most common motor out there and the cheapest to rebuild. Chevrolet Leads The Way

Only other company that pulls that off is Toyota. Their little motors are indestructible. And last forever.

I applauded you fight for Korean cars but it is really up to them to make and impact. When i was selling cars a while back, we did have have a bunch of customers who arn't car people but for their needs and though their research, they new for the average person, Korean cars have caught up.

But on the side we sit, "enthusiast side", Korea is behind the ball. Me personally, i have never liked the Tiburon, this new Genesis, i have to drive it till i make opinions on it. So far it has good things going for it like the styling but we will see what happens when its out.

dude dont be a retard they manufacture cars in the same factory.

and as for the genesis.. thus far the car seems pretty cool, good power and brembo brakes and whatnot.. but would you seriously buy the first attempt from them at a rwd sports car? and for what they want for it? thats imo something i wouldnt do. if you look at most 1st year production cars even from companies that have built like cars in the past. you will know that often times they have lots of bugs. and most of the improvements come later on in future generations. and not to mention i read in motor trend they were aiming that car to compete with the new G37.. go home hyundai. my :2cents: to the "Genesis fan club"

btw how do you like your under 180 hp v6? :lmfao: hyundai was a real winner with that one!

If you are a Honda/Acura fan, you cannot clown Hyundai. Hyundai has now done what Acura still can't do .
1-Make a RWD sedan
2-Make one with a V-8
3-Make a car with a 6 speed Auto.

The Genesis solidifies Hyundai as the real deal and makes Acura seem laughable since HYUNDAI has now passed them in those 3 MAJOR respects.

A loaded Genesis has RWD, a 6 speed auto and 380 or so HP. The flagship Acura is the RL which sells like crap, has 290hp, a 5 speed auto and SH-AWD but with 70/30 FWD bias.

I'd have to say Kia simply because they don't produce a single car that would be anywhere near the top of my list as far as personal appeal goes. I'm sure they make quality cars now and all, but in every field of what they make there are several choices that make much more sense imo.

Amazingly, the new Kia Borrengo has a V-8 as well and is very competative. The Koreans are SERIOUS. Here are new OFFICIAL pics of the GEnesis coupe.

IMO, the new Genesis coupe > Altima/Accord/G6/Solara coupes. It has RWD, a turbo 4 or a big V-6 and optional LSD and Brembo Brakes.

Tuners took extensive photos of the turbocharged Genesis coupe during the measuring session.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — Hyundai took a major step toward reinventing itself as a legitimate performance-car manufacturer by inviting 20 aftermarket companies to measure the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe today at its North American headquarters in Fountain Valley, California.

Hyundai Motor America officials called this the official SEMA measuring session for the company's rear-drive coupe, which is based on the shortened version of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis Sedan platform.

"Normally, we've done this closer to the start of production," Wayne Killen, director of strategic product planning for Hyundai Motor America, told us. "But we really wanted the aftermarket companies to get a start on it."

The aftermarket companies ran the gamut, ranging from Wet Okole Hawaii, which makes waterproof seat covers, to Garrett-Honeywell and HKS.

You'll recall from the 2008 New York Auto Show that Hyundai will be offering both a 310-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 and a 223-hp, 2.0-liter, turbocharged, inline four-cylinder in the 2010 Genesis Coupe. Not surprisingly, the 2.0-liter turbo got most of the attention from the tuners, and since the engine itself is a direct relation of the 2.0-liter in the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart and Evolution X, most weren't seeing it for the first time.

"I'm more excited about this than I am about that one," said John Espino of Gale Banks Engineering, while standing next to the turbo coupe. "If you look under the hood, there's more room to do stuff." However, he noted that his company is working on a supercharger for the V6 Genesis coupe, in addition to planned upgrades for the turbocharger and intercooler on the four-cylinder model.

"There's an engine mount underneath the turbocharger so that kind of limits how big you can go," Garrett's Brian Regnier told us. "But there's always a way around that." He said the main contingency for Garrett in developing turbo upgrades for the Genesis coupe is public reaction to Hyundai's first rear-wheel-drive coupe. "We'll wait to see what the reception for this vehicle is at track days," he noted.

Hyundai officials also confirmed today that the company will offer Track versions of both the four-cylinder turbo and the V6 coupe. "They'll be a low percentage of the mix," Joyce admitted, "but they will be uncompromised in their performance."

In addition to retuned suspension compared to the standard versions of the coupe, the Genesis Track models will pick up a front strut tower brace and a full set of Brembo brakes, including four-piston monobloc calipers up front.

Regardless of the engine underhood, Track models will come with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A summer tires, sized 225/40R19 up front and 245/40R19 in back. Non-Track Genesis coupes get 225/45R18 Bridgestone Potenza RE092As in front and 245/45s in back.

Hyundai also revealed some basic stats on the likely customer base today. The four-cylinder turbo coupe is predicted to draw an even mix of men and women, while the company anticipates an older, more affluent and 70 percent male crowd to embrace the V6 coupe. The highest-volume exterior color is expected to be Gray Titanium at 18 percent.

Known internally as "BK," the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will go into production in December 2008 at Hyundai's Alsan, Korea, plant. Look for the cars to arrive at dealerships in early February 2009.

What this means to you: Hyundai hopes the 2010 Genesis Coupe will pick up where the Nissan 240SX left off, and is doing everything it can to ensure full aftermarket support when the coupe goes on sale. — Erin Riches, Senior Editor
