Alright I just was on Wikipedia and looking up the trims/engines for the 1994 Civic's, My friend has one and hes looking for a turbo kit, so I had to find out what engine he has in his car right now.Let me Quote here.

"The EX and EX-V had the D16Z6 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine#D16Z6) SOHC VTEC engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VTEC#SOHC_VTEC)."

Straight from wikipedia, its a 4 door, not hatchback, and Ive seen his engine several times, and Im pretty sure its not Vtec, his car is all stock and never had an engine swap or anything like that, did honda make exceptions for the EX? I mean if it was Vtec wouldnt it say Vtec anywhere on the car? lol

Honda engines are very easy to identify. Look at the mounting between transmission and engine block. On the block there should be a roughly 1" square flat portion with the engine code etched into it. It should be plainly visible if not obscured by dirt. If it is a D16Z6, and a D16Z6 is SOHC VTEC, then your buddy's engine is VTEC.

just look at the engine ode on the block and it will tell u which motor is in it.

Shouldn't it just be on the valve cover.........

Sunkenkarma
04-27-2008, 10:51 PM
So it should say VTEC on the engine block? If it should, then I proclaim wtf, EX with a non vtec that has never been swapped? hmm....

That's a d16z6 intake manifold I believe. But I believe that's a d15b2, I have one in my EE.

Revmaynard

No, it will have a VTEC valve cover and a spot like this that says ''d16z6''

sun roofs and power door and stuff only came on ex's and si's.

Just look at the engine code on the block...and look for a vtec soleniod(sp) on the back of the valve cover near the intake manifold.

my valve cover on my del-sol d16z6 doesn't say VTEC on it. so just b/c it doesnt say it doesnt mean it isnt VTEC. does it have a vtec solenoid (sp). but either way the easiest way is too check thee block code.

how about u kick of the muffler and take of the Cold air intake, drive and gun it, if u hear a minute difference around 4 to 5 thousand rpms you;ve got yourself a Vtaccck!!!

lol jk.

ive got a 2000 ex and it sure as hell doesnt have vtec on the valve cover, but it has the vtec solenoid (sp) and my post is useless cause i said nothing of importance! :boobies: :lmfao:

EX's are vtec. they are single over head cam, not dual...

i think the first few vtec ex's didnt have vtec on the valve cover. i had a 94 sedan ex it didnt say vtec but with a car full of people the motor was trying real hard and you could hear vtec. lol.

^^ Not all SOHC models had Vtec written on the valve cover. Does the car have a sunroof? If so then yea it is a SOHC VTEC.

if it's an EX, its got a D16z6. it is vtec. i saw a 96/97 the other day i was looking at. same motor, and only said honda on the valve cover. vtec solenoid on the back and all.
