alright... i'm looking at buying a cheap dd..... right now i have a montero and it is killing me in gas... (i've got a 45min-1hr commute to and from work) a friend has offered me a 95 civic ex. now i do like honda's so i'm not asking "who here likes hondas?"... what i'm wondering is... would you buy it if you were me.... let me list some known issues with the car...

1. no a/c.... (it looks to be all hooked up.. so it may just need a recharge)
2. horrible paint... oxidization s really bad on this thing...
3. minor scratches/dings
4. drivers side window does NOT roll down (passengers does and sunroof works)
5. clutch lets out at the very top...(or grabs whatever you wanna say) so i think it may be going out....
6. when in gear, i can wobble/shake the shifter left/right almost as if it were out of gear..
7. roughly 180xxx miles

now onto the plus...

1.New tires
2. runs just fine(no grinds, pulls well, no leaks that i can see)
3. interior is dirty... but other than that seems to be in great shape
4. 30+ mpg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5. the price.... $700
6. all electronics work from what i can tell

so again... that's my question... would you buy this as a cheap dd to get away from these terrible gas prices????/is it worth 700???

I'd go for it. You'll have VTEC! HAR HAR HAR! Lol, but for real, it would be worth the money in the end. I know getting out of my SUV and into a Civic has saved me atleast $200 a month.

Buy it and fix a few of the issues for cheap. In the end it will be a better buy.

do it. that stuff is easy to fix on a 95 civic.

Do it 700 for an ex is a steal. It might look like it needs a tranny though

I would do it. Those cars are very simple, I would imagine, and it would make for something fun to tinker with when you're bored on a tuesday night. Plus it gets like 40mpg. Pull the trigger, you probably won't regret it.

Sounds like a good buy. Most of the issues seem to be pretty minor and not insanely hard to fix.

If the clutch only grabs at the top you may just need to adjust the cable. Does it slip?

Buy it and if you decide you don't want it you can sell it.

92+ civic are hydraulic clutch.

(out of order)
1) try and recharge the a/c, go ahead and retrofit to r134a if it isnt already (i cant remember)
2) shifter bushings will make that slop (i recom the polyeurathane bushings)
3) are they power windows?
4) sounds like clutch or pp is going out
5) if it uses some oil just keep an eye on it or rebuild it. worst case scenario throw a jdm d15b vtec in it for like $500.

Its cool, worst case man you buy an exedy clutch kit off egay for like $115. the clutch is a 3-4 hour job if you keep your head on and have some tools.

#6 is a knuckle thing i believe...my car has the same problem. doesn't affect me thing.
idk maybe its different in a honda, but i have a part that goes under the tranny to just keep it still. just haven't had time to install it.

yea i'm 95% sure u are hydro..just check under the hood and see if you have two resorvoirs for brake fluid..one for the master cylinder and one for the clutch master cylinder..

PS wasnt ur hatch hydro? is its the same year model car homie..92-95 is the year of those civics, like your old bubble.

this car has stock engine... the hatch had a b18 with a gsr tranny...

if it is hydro... it could just be low on fluid right????

i'm prolly gonna buy some new body parts...

to look it's best it needs

front bumper, driver side fender, and hood... maybe a trunk too...

but none of those are a must.. they are just dinged up pretty good.. ya know?

but i think i'm gonna go for it.. as someone else said.. it's a great dd... and something i can easily work on.. and turn into a project one day!

Poll results show you exactly what you should do.

If you dont want that car, well then I DO! hehehe

Killer, get that as a DD, save up some money, sell your Montero, and get a nice good spanking new DD, that gets awesome gas millage like a toyota camry.

good deal if you drove it for a year it would pay for itself :goodjob:

Killer

good deal if you drove it for a year it would pay for itself :goodjob:

it would pay for itself in less than a year... roughly 20 fill ups....... i guess... rough estimate....

my montero (last i filled up.. before prices went up) cost me a little over 70 dollars.... that last me roughly a week....
in ten weeks (or roughly 2months) i spend 700 in gas.... (that is a rough estimate of course)

lets say to fill up the civic it costs me half the price it does the montero (rough estimate again...) yet i will get double the gas mileage.... that's 35 dollars every fill up... or round up.. to 40.. with double gas mileage.. that's 20 bucks a week... in ten weeks i will only have spent 200 dollars in gas... saving me 500 dollars.....
(if i did the math right anyways...)

it'll pay for itself very quickly basically.... except that i may have to do some maintenance.. if that's the case it'll take a little bit longer to pay for itself....

but still.. this only furthers the reasoning that I SHOULD NOT PASS THIS UP!!!!
