Too bad you did a piss poor job.

Would it have killed you to put some oil on the tires or mask them off? Seriously... *sigh*

And I'm guessing you didn't strip the tires or sand the wheels first.

*shakes head* you would think that as big of a forum as IA is, the members would search for the correct way to do something.

They look meh now, but they're gonna look like crap in a few days when they start chipping and flaking. Maybe next time you'll do it correctly.

But, looking beyond the crappy workmanship and at the overall look of the car, I rather like it. Just take the time to do it right.

I cleaned the wheel, didnt sand it cus there was nothing to sand off. Maybe i did do a ****ty job, but it was my first. And its better to learn from my mistakes than from someone elses.

um..i'm by no means and expert at painting, but dont you sand whatever it is your painting to get it nice and smooth so the paint sticks?

Zeeb
04-22-2008, 03:07 PM
yea you should sanded is cleaned it and sanded it again, you also prolly shouldve index carded all around the wheel, its better than taping it and easier getting it off... if you look closely im sure we could spot marks whereyou missed right where the rim and the tire meet, also anytime u get new tires... the paint job is going to be ****ed, when they change them they are going to ding the **** out of them... and... yea, powder coating ftw.

you should have definatly sanded them, it took me hours to do, but made it look 10 times better and no chip as easy, but i primered then painted. and you should have indexed carded them as well, keeps the tires from getting sprayed and that **** is easy. but like dynasty said they will get chipped when you get new tires on it, so be prepared.

yup yup, im experienced with painting rims, i did my civics, i has o.z racing's on it, and i didnt sand or primer, just cleaned and painted, and week after week i watched the paint chip till it looked likt a dalmation. because they were white to begin with, and i tried to go black, but now with my s2k i forked out 320$ bucks and got them powder coated, semi gloss, much ****ing nicer i must say, and one of the best investments i have made on my car so far...

Why not learn from someone else's mistakes? Do a quick search for wheel painting and there are TONS of threads that have information about the correct way to do it. That way, yours come out done correctly the first time, and this time next week you're not kicking yourself for doing it because your wheels look like speckled crap. Now that you've done it the wrong way, you've bought yourself a lot more work to fix it. More time stripping the old paint off, more time sanding like you should have done the first time, then carding the tires/putting lotion on them and re-spraying.

Powdercoating really is FTW though.

I did use the index cards around the wheel. But on the first two that i did, i sprayed some on the tire cus the wind kept blowing the index cards off. Than i moved to the garage and used index cards again with no wind around, and didnt get no paint on the tires.

And hopefully the paint doesnt come off. Because there was no paint on these rims before this i put the prime and the black. They were just allow wheels.

it is droped, the tires make it little higher. And pictures dont do what it really looks in real life. Even when i saw the pics, i was like WTF those are some FAT ASS tires. It looks way cleaner if u saw it in person.

so you think, they were probably painted. all stock s200 rims look like alloy/normal silver color rims, they dont look painted... but they are, all of them... i wouldnt be surprised if urs were too from the factory...

well buy lower profile tyres anyways and also your drop looks way un even...

04-22-2008, 06:33 PM
^^^

it is un even. i need to raise the car, and adjust the front about .5-1 inch more down.

04-22-2008, 06:36 PM
lol oh ok, is it coilover im assuming? what kind?

Got Milk?
04-22-2008, 06:51 PM
^^skunk 2.

Plus it looks uneven on the tire gap, but the ride is smooth, and the car doesn't pull the wheels to any sides. I can let go of my steering wheel and drive 2 miles straight.

What ever u paint you have to send it down so that the new paint or primer stick to w/e u wanna paint... If u just spary over something without sanding it, it will come off after a while. If you dont feel like sending it down you can use the Scotchpad, which is something like sand paper. Everything looks good freshly painted , but take some pic's after like 3-4 weeks and lets see whats gonna happen to the wheels.
