My Brother in law melted his 1.6L DX non-Vtec motor. He would like to replace it with a Vtec. What all is needed? I was told we can drop in the Vtec and plug and play with a ECU swap only. The Junk yard said we would have to do a harness swap.

What is the truth? Plug-n-play or Harness swap?

Need to know now.

if its a 92 i think you can just drop it in an plug it up....92's are pre-wired...if its not you just wire the vtec up. its really easy. only 2 wires

In a DX you will have to run wires for vtec, vtec pressure, knock sensor.... It is not in the shock tower harnesses. So you need a vtec ecu, and to wire those sensors into the ecu. Simple.

It's a 95' Civic non-vtec 1.6L. Are they wired different?

I just told you what needs to happen. Just add wires. use your harness.

Can you drop the Vtec in and plug it up and drive without the Vtec until he gets the rest of the parts?

Is there a DIY manual around here on how to wire it all up to the stock harness?
