Ok so my friend has a 85 corolla gts.

It has an old school HKS turbo set up, no intercooler, a HKS Ignition Retarder, in a 4a blue top. This mother ****** is OLD. And all original, Im talking...first generation HKS stuff on this thing, the old HKS logo is slammed all over this it, its really cool...but anyways..on to the story

One day when he was driving... the car died, and he could never get it started again.

So one day we decided to try and get it running again, and it cranked right up...but it would die out after idling for approx. 15-20 seconds. And if you gave it gas, it would instantly die.

It has half a tank of gas, new spark plugs, new oil, and battery is strong enough for it to turn over.

We swapped out the MAF sensor, and it cranked and idled like a dream! We thought we succeeded in conquering this beast!

But then it died, and wouldnt crank after that lol.

Whats the problem?

This is more like a puzzle than a broken car...

Obvious: Check for spark, check for fuel, check that the MAF is still reading properly, check all your fuses. When you say it doesn't crank, will it not turn over, or will it not fire while turning over? I mean, there's a decent bit missing from this.

it will not fire, it turns over just fine, but no puffs.

we have fuel

we have spark

we have some sort of air coming in

it just wont crank

can timing go out while the car is being driven?

I believe it can jump timing... Might want to check it just in case.

it might be the alternator

fuel delivery problem possibly,

those are symptoms of bad TPS, but since it doesn't crank back up I would try another distributor because the Pickups (G and/or Ne) may not be sending signal to the ECU....

u have all that but do u have compression

when it idled, it idled fine, so i highly doubt its compression issues, one cylinder is a tad bit low...but all cylinders are well above 100psi
