ok, so im in a speech class and i was assigned a persuasive speech. I havent had a hard time picking a topic but i figured i would get a sense of insight from everyone here since the topic revolves around cars. The topic that i want to do my speech on is "why it is a good thing to drive alternative powered vehicles other then ones that are gas powered." do you think that would be a good one? i mean im sure it would be a good topic to peek peoples interest as long as i found good facks, and shoot, with the way gas prices are peaking these days, i figured people would listen to something that could save them money in the long run. lemme know! reps will be given!

I think it might actually be a tough topic to "persuade" because you are not going to have a lot of people that will be against it. Just my .02... I think you should try a topic that you stand for that you think a lot of people don't, that way you can actually put more enthusiasm into your speech... But good luck with the speech.

My last persuasive paper was Diesel vs Gas. Lots of info out there and arguments for diesel if thats where you wanna take it.

You can stay on that topic... but broaden it so you have more to write about.
Your thesis can be to "use and support the applications and development of alternative energy". That way, you have the whole alternative energy spectrum to write about. Vehicles, industrial power, power for your home... ect... More types to talk about: algae, solar, wind, geothermal, biofuel, ethanol (ehh, this past week the news has been bashing ethonal for raising grain prices though), propane, natural gas, water power (dams). dont forget nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is very very safe now, it has causes NO pollution except for the waste which can be contained safely. The waste... spent fuel rods... is often reprocessed to be the 30mm depleted uranium cannon rounds used in the A-10 ground attack aircraft which fights the war on terror... so you can conclude that using nuclear energy supports the war on terror lol... there. Yes all of this is true.

yeah i was going to broaden it. what i was really wanting to focus on was how leaning towards an alternative fuel source or pwer for transportation is a good thing rather then a bad thing. wanted solidify peopls need to start going from petroleum based nessities to other things. i would think in the long run i would help bring down not only the cost of gas but the cost of other things as well since the damand wouldnt be high anymore for it if it was to happen that way.

The only thing about that what I was thinking, would be the government would try to control it. If they couldn't tax it, they would make it illegal. If they could tax it, they are going to raise the prices of that so ppl wouldn't want to buy it either. Just something I was thinking about...

Whats the point if you drive a gas powered vehicle yourself.

i think it would be good, but your going to have to go agaisnt yourself at the same time to keep it interesting. like give some good facts about hydro cars then give some good facts about gas cars(dont know what that would be right off the top of my head)
Good topic, just be sure to use spell check. Personally I would go at it from the angle that alternative fuel vehicles present competition for traditional oil.. with competition comes great efficiency and lower prices. Also investing in our own infrastructure here to provide that kind of energy creates jobs and lowers our trade deficeit.

i think it'd be a good topic, especially if its something you're really interested in and know something about.
