I recommend Batlgrounds as well they do good work and the staff up there is down to earth. They all are cool peeps and can get your Evo to run fast.

I have pretty much the same cams as an Evo mine just face the other way. As long as the caps are tight you'll be cool.

and yes, with very little money, you could make your car go faster.

with just TBE no cat and MBC, without a tune, I ran 12.9 @108mph on stock clutch.

But ever since then, I try to conserve my clutch as much as possible, since it's costly. ($1200 for ACT street installed.)

But really, the most fun you could have in Evolution is the twisties. It handles amazing.

We routinely go up to the Tail of the Dragon and do Solo II. (look at the signature picture. That's me at the little Talledega. :) )

we have about 9 to 10 Evo's attend the Dragon, and most of the time, 5 or 6 Evo's going to Solo II events.

No problem... just saying that I've never met a performance shop that works on Evo's suggest an Evo build that consists mostly of parts you buy off EBay for half the price of their copied original parts.

I have absolutely no problem with XS Power, SSAutoChrome, Megan Racing, etc...

Just curious, which specific turbo are you planning to use on her car, and what size compressor and exhaust housings? ... and are you going to use an adapter plate to mate it with the stock manifold?

What rpm does the t3/t4 start spooling and full spool at (and what gear)? Still haven't answered the specifics of the turbo... like which t3/t4 you're going with, what size compressor / exhaust housings, etc. Internal or External wastegate? Honestly... I've only seen a few setups like these, and they all turn out with results less than what a stock 16g would put out... just giving friendly words. I would hate for this poor girl to invest in all these parts without knowing what to expect.

Also, what is she building the car for? Auto-x / Road-racing? It seems the stock turbo or a modified version of the stock turbo gives the best "mid-range" outta any other turbo on the Evo...

By the way, a girl wanting to learn about cars is cool and all... but it's not something new and not something she deserves a free cookie for. There's plenty of girls, especially locally, with quick rides and quick driving skills...

Different turbos run differently on different cars... the GT-series turbos have been pruven to produce amazing top-end power where as other turbos have been less sucessful than stock turbos... and the t3/t4 is one of those.

gt30's are very ideal for Evo's on driveability as well as power. That would be my recommendation.

Different turbos run differently on different cars... the GT-series turbos have been pruven to produce amazing top-end power where as other turbos have been less sucessful than stock turbos... and the t3/t4 is one of those.


Yep. The stock turbo has a lot of potential in it but a cheap t3/t4 wont be worth it. Last I heard the XS power turbos compressor housing cracked.

So with the parts I found, we're running a grand total of: $5037, not including the intake manifold, turbo, and injectors (I'd guess probably 1000cc).

Indeed Matt, you are right. It has to be over 6 grand in parts, the turbo alone is probably close to a thousand. Not adding in labor and tuning, which would probably push the job to over the $10k mark.


dunno if it's been said yet... but i think she ordered that crap from "XS Power", which i believe is totally separate from the real xs engineering company. so she probably paid about a buck fifty for all of those parts and 90% of them will break in a week's time. those xs power turbos rock, especially when compressor housing separates because it's epoxied together ;).

So how much money is really going into this project? Most evos run 12's with minor BPU, so can we safely assume a nice low 11sec car? With the big turbo setup, on 28psi this car should make 450+awhp (probably closer to 500) depending on the tune of course. Evochick, is it safe to assume this much? Just curious...

good luck w/ that XS power turbo...i have heard some horror stories about those, the compressor housings cracking completely in half. other than that their products are pretty good i guess..you might wanna put some bracing on the exhuast manifold bc they tend to crack at the welds bc they are welded on a machine so you can't get good penetration and a good bead like someone hand tig'ing it would do.

I'm no expert on Evo's by far but you may just want to save your money and do a little more research. Seriously if you want to gain a lot of knowledge ask charles (ct9a gsr) where he hangs out at, the man has endless amounts of knowledge on the Evo and he will point you in the right direction... plus his car is kind of fast.

V8 Mustangs make like 600-700whp at 8psi turbo'd.. I'd certainly hope you're running 11 somethings at the track with 10psi.

I've seen those numbers but a lot of those are not at 8 psi. Typically depending on the motor (either 5.0,4.6 sohc,4.6 dohc) and turbo a v8 car will make between 350-500 rwhp with 8 psi. We are talking single turbo as well as twins are a completelly different animal. So yes,they are way off from 600-700 rwhp. I have a turbo mustang so i know somewhat what i'm talking about.

I'm just gonna give you my opinion, you can take it for what it's worth, but why would you bother coming on here at all and risk your rep as a shop in ATL's biggest import community on account of some internet banter? I think you're handling this really poorly. You dont have to agree with anything on here at all. Infact, it's your god given privelage to totally disagree with whatever you feel like, but you're really going about this all wrong. Take it for what it's worth, but my advice to you is to just build the car, post some numbers or some slips, then come back...although it might be too late for all that at this point. It's one thing if your customer comes on here and argues in a profane manner, but when the shop does it, it just makes you look bad. You at least have to establish a good rep in the community before you can really get away with verbally attacking the regulars on this site! LOL.
