Ahhh. My bad. The mechanic is at VIR for a race this weekend. The hood is propped and there has been some tinkering but he's supposed to dive in beginning of next week.
Heated springs? Did you just get a tourch and heat them? Not sure how to do it, and does it drive worse with it done?
That's what I did and how I did it. It's kind of hard to explain it but easy as hail to do it. And you can tell it's lowered but much better ride than cut. Took me all of about an hour of total heating time.
hope yours turn out as sweet as that one
Thanks and mine looks basically just like his. Right now. About the same color. And mine is a bit lower. But that will change pretty drastically as we are both going in totally opposite directions.
either that or cutting.
Yo! you still gotta tell me how you do it. what do you put the hubs on? or do you do it with the wheels on since they were so goll dern high!
No cutting for me. I'll never do that way. And I don't remove anything to heat.

1. Yes I call that low. I didn't say slammed. Why? Because it isn't. I didn't say "dumped." Why? Because it isn't. It's lowered. End of story.
2. Your "boys" 78? Not dumped at all. In fact, it's about the same height. Just because he has bigger wheels to fill the gap doesn't mean it's dumped. And you can do one of two things right here. a)You can (and probably will try) to question what I know about "dumped." or b)Put me in touch with this guy (if he;s local) as Baby J and I and a few others are working to round up all the old school imports we can.
3. Great for your swap. I guess.

To answer a few questions...
** Thanx to "QUICKDODGE-ENGINEERING" for the time and education. :D I've had hydros, airride, cut springs, you NAME it I have done it -- OTHER than heating coils. This is the 1st time I've attempted this route. The drive back from Conyers to Canton I tried to upset it, flip it over, break it lose... and it's solid (w/ this original engine in place -- we'll see what happens when I have more power). To all that have their opinions on the procedure ---- hmmmm.... it's an open forum, I welcome it... but if you think I am a n00b on suspension here's a read:
http://www.hondasociety.com/board/showthread.php?t=33526&page=1&pp=30
And that's just for starters -- I've done it all in that arena, as I am an ex-mini trucker. ;) The 88 (EF) coils, w/ OEM rebuildable struts (or just some regular KYB aftermarket replacements) are a bolt-on affair... or you can modify the spring perch for just a TAD bit more drop. I already have the skunk coils, and KYB struts for front and rear --- if I don't like this $30 method of lowering, I can still re-engineer the setup --- otherwise I saved myself almost $500.;)
** The headlights are in "test-mode" as we speak. Output is not as bright as the originals --- in fact, HI-BEAM is about what a normal aftermarket OEM replacement is on low. Leaves a lot to be desired IMO. I will use the side of a building to adjust them properly tomorrow night and retest. I am DEAD SET on the look, as many of you know this car will be 100% flat black on the outside... not an OUNCE of gloss anywhere... those lights will be a nice touch to complete the look I am going for. Furthermore... the bulbs are H4, ready for the HID retro-fit of my choice if my upcoming body mods --> :ninja: <-- don't allow for some auxillary driving lights to assist the headlights. Speaking of the look... that leads me to...
** PAINT: The car was slated for paint on the 17th of March. I am waiting on rubber seals for the windshield, hatch, rear 1/4 glass. I already received the door weather stripping... all coming from Scotts Old Rubber in New Zealand. Once the rest of the rubber arrives, it will be painted satin black (think Skunk2) (exterior) by a local Canton, GA painter... and the interior (the paint scheme follows to the interior on classic cars --- there are only 2 "panels" in the car) will be painted by Superstar Customs (gloss black).
** Rotas -- no. LOL. But I do have some vintage style wheels for it that are currently being powder-coated and trued. (13x5)
** The car that some1 posted belongs to Evan --- not sure he is still building it, but it's looks lower due the 15in wheels --- as some1 stated --- very clean car though.

There actually not any more expensive as most wheels you buy for your newer cars. When on Ebay, you can easily pick some up about $800/set.

For your 1st one... read the powertrain section. 2, it's an Ohio car --- take those front fenders off and be prepared for the grot (rust) from the salt.
Your second one --- LOL ---- has 28 k "original" miles right? But has a BRAND NEW NOS (Honda) carb. Funny --- why would a 28,000 mile (that's a NEW car) need a new carb?? I'll just stop there on that example.
Your 3rd example is not a 1st gen.
PS: I am not saying that you can't find these cars... but chances are if you find it on the web you are being taken for a ride. I found a GA car, no rust under the fenders... etc. That's why you take your time. I also took over 5 years to get my 73 Datsun 510 coupe. When it's a classic car, you're taking your chances. Not saying u can't get lucky, but the odds are highly not in your favor of getting a fair deal.

Rotas or any "new school" wheel wouldn't look right IMO, that car needs wheels from the same time period like Minilites or Enkei meshes. Not to mention the Sb-1 Civics had a 4x120 bolt pattern that would require a complete front-end swap to be able to use EF calipers and rotors... and re-drilling the rear drums to 4x100 too.

.
Run your stock headlight wires to trigger a relay. From the relay, you can run power directly from the battery to the headlights, using lower gauge (thicker) wire. Then they will burn a hole in the road;) . On old cars like the 1st. gen Civics the wiring isn't as heavy-duty as it needs to be to support higher output lighting. I had the same problem with the H4's I put in my old Jetta.
I am on board with getting all the old-school imports together. I am into old VW's but the ATL VW scene is more focused around the newer models. I'd rather hear about TE-3 Corollas, 510's and Civic 1200's than I would MkIV Jetta's and EG civics

And what's this? Looks like the guys at Wheel Wizard took this:

and then turned them into:

The pics look glossy b/c of the flash - but they are actually flat-black powder coat.
Stay tuned for the pics mounted on the car. :)

My hatch will be 2-stage flat black - there won't even be a chrome antenna or door handle or trim piece - ENTIRE car will be flat - and nothing will shine on it PERIOD. It will tie in w/ the theme quite nicely. ;)

That is one hideous car.
Not hideous enough to be unique like a datsun or old corvair.
Just plain hideous.
I dig it. I like the headlights.
Nice.

All in all I am happy. I am gonna run 175s instead of 185s in front. This way it will tuck better when I toss on my modified EF suspension. Also, I measured the inside of the cone (area where center cap connects) and I am gonna have Wheel Wizard cut that down, and weld a simple dome-topped cap - (I had to mount the wheels to see how much area to cut b/c of the hub) there as I am not a fan of the center cap. I also found the 1 company on the planet that makes Mag-Style (sheath) lugs in a 1.25 and in BLACK!!!! So they are on order as well. Then I will have the wheels re-powder-coated after the custom cap is welded on and smoothed. This time, I will also have the spokes smoothed a bit b4 the powder-coat.

Also - I got the paint in from Alsa. I am going w/ their 2 stage flat (and a flat clear for paint protection). IMO it's the hottest flat-black on the market right now - and will NOT look like a rattle-can job. Here is an example, but I have better pics somewhere:

Cool car, good thread. If you know about Alsa corps flat black then enough said. Awesome paint! It's actually harder to do than glossy clear over black. No chance to buff out dust or moths. lol. I'm feeling the stealth look on the car, can't wait to see it done. Definately unique!
