And we have been paying on them for almost 2 years now.

a little over 100k... thats what it cost to make the big $$$... private grad school is expensive. luckily she has a career that can afford such school loans.

i can only imagine her friends who dropped out or got kicked out.

they are tuition loans... 28k a year for school. sh!t is nutz. interest rates are between 6-7%. joe what did you guys get your loans locked in at?

honestly i think it is a joke. i think if you actually graduate grad school and don't f*ck up they should give you a break on the interest. crazy the money they will make on us. we are going to look into consolidation to see if we can get the interest down a bit and so we don't have to seperate payments.

See, we got screwed on the loans, because they were unsubsidized, which basically puts them into the realm of signature loans, so the loans are between 10 and 13%. They are not locked either, so that is variable. It really sucks and looking at the total payout if we only make the minimum payments (820/mo or so) is enough to give you a heart attack. We are paying them off with as many extra payments as we can afford.

Edit: oh...and Brooke (these were all her loans) doesn't make nearly as much as Kate will =-(

man that sucks... i feel ya man... i told her we needed to take the best fixed rate w/ the lowest payment we could get; then we would make extra payments as neccessary. i found it funny too b/c the gov't would be like we estimate your school year to cost your say 30k; we will give you 20k and then we had to make arrangments to get the rest covered. f*cking ridiculous. :2up:

well you don't have a choice... once you've sign your name to the loans you have to pay even if you don't graduate, don't like your education, etc... they will garnish wages or take any other means neccessary to get the money out of you. only way you are getting out is if you do 5 years of service teaching in poverty area or dieing.
