Me and my friend ran into his old boss.So we were talking and he told us his set up. Hes got Boosted b20vtec with type r tranny in a eg hatch or coupe:screwy: .He told us about him being on the interstate spinning at a 100mph. I figured that was strange to see considering boost and short gears dont mix to well from what ive heard most ppl with boost use ls or gsr trannys so i didnt understand why the guy decided to use itr except for lsd :2cents: Longer gears more time for boost to make power. That was my understanding
What do you guys think about that set up?

Too much power being loaded on the front wheels for it's own good. I see bad things happening. I bet that thing lags big time.

depends on the turbo setup, what turbo he's running, what kind of engine management, if he used a B16 or B18 head, if it's in a hatch or a coupe (coupe weighs more), how much boost he's running, what kind of suspension setup he has to put the power to the ground... Shall I go on?
You can't say a car is "sick" or "crazy" if you only know it's a turbo honda. I've seen turbo hondas run 16 second quarter miles.. nothing sick or crazy about that.

used b16 head boost i think like 8-14 pounds dont know what turbo,no suspension just lowered but who would use a type r tranny with boost.I thought that was kinda strange. No time to boost

He went with the type R trans for the limited slip, but he's a n00b and didn't take into account that the type R trans has way short gears, which is great for N/A but **** for boost... if he had thought it out better instead of just getting what everyone told him to get, he would have purchased a Quaife LSD and a GSR transmission.
His car is not crazy.. it's actually pretty weak.

Just because a car makes so much HP doesnt mean it aint streetable, have you heared of turning down the boost? There are cars out there with 650HP daily driven what does a few more hp make a diffrence?

Why would you wanna drive something that sensative (even if you can turn the boost down) on the street? You probably could, but why? That's just plain foolish

So i guess all these Mustangs, Z06, Vipers with 700,800,900+ HP is foolish also!
Too each its own if i wanted a drag car only i would build a Pro car, but this car is still setup for the streets, **** i even have a full system in it still..

Especially the Mustangs, Z06, Vipers and others with that much power. I'm not taking any pity on them too. Single purposed vehicles have their place. And the streets aren't where they belong.

Well 626's have been known to own at drag, road racing, gymkhana, rally etc.
If the car has a good tune and is running right what would not make it streetable? I don't think you understand that the power comes on at like 5k + on most big turbo cars and you never reach that driving around town. You don't want to floor it every chance you get but its certainly doable.

Ok, let's say that it "could" be streetable. Would you want to daily drive it? Have you driven or even rode in a car that was as tempermental as a built up car? Crappy idle, harsh clutch and driveline snatch from upgrades and poor gas mileage. Why?
EDIT: Why would one want to run that kind of car on the street especially if most cars on high boost turned down for the street will more than likely need run on race gas? That's a waste of good race gas for bragging rights.

I beg to differ, when i run low boost i can run on regular gas, i have done it. I have a twin disk in my car, with a full roll cage, i have driven my car to work sitting in downtown traffic before and it didnt bother me one bit,I guess if your not used too or own something that is built you wouldnt know the diffrence, why build a car too let it sit in the garage?
I have taken my car out on a friday night with a full tank of c16 race gas, money is money, but when u smoke the **** out of a v8 thats priceless!!!

Have you ever seen any of my cars? YOU are the one with a 626 remember.
Every project I have is "built up". BUT with the right tune on different maps you CAN make a car with big cams and huge injectors get good mileage if you wanted to. I always have daily driver but if I didn't it wouldn't be hard to tune the Haltech in the Porsche and get 25+ mpg and have a perfect idle. When you are spending 2 grand on management and a tune it should do what you tell it to. The only thing you can't change is the clutch. Unless you are a big vag that doesnt bother you much either.

this car kinda scares me. how does a car that small get traction at all through any gear with that much done to the motor? what kind of car is this by the way? i wouldn't want to take that anywhere but the strip. very impressive to say the least, but I think what it all boils down to is, many of these cars are street legal. its just a matter of how street worthy they are. taking something like that out on the road everyday is asking for a hole in your wallet.

Believe it or not, it has really good traction. You know It has a really tall highway gear which is mostly responsible for the traction and not imediately breaking loose. I know he has like 2 or 3 differentials (one for track, one for street) the highway is like a 2.74 or something like that. I forget what the other is. I know it's a 3.xx something. Fun car.. Very streetable.

why is a ITR tranny bad? i see people knocking it, but on low boost setups its actually great. I prefer it actually.
Anything under 300whp i would run an ITR trans ALL DAY LONG. LSD and short gears means traction and quick into boost.
Its all about CAR SETUP. you guys only look at 1 thing an generalize.
Chances are if its a stock b20 block its weak, so hes prob running less than 10psi. Hes got TQ to spool the turbo, the trans will make it have short gearing and short pulls in between gears, but the rpm drop will be very low.
Hell end up having an awesome street car while you make threads saying his car sucks.

^^He changed his original post... it used to say that it was the craziest setup ever or something like that... I was merely making the point that he didn't know enough about the build/setup/car in general to go making that kind of claim. I called it weak based on the cars on here that *are* crazy lol.. See Spoolin' Matt for reference, or hell.. you for that matter. :) I wasn't necessarily flaming the car he was talking to.. I was just telling him that 1) he needs more information about the car than "It's a boosted b20/VTEC" to claim it as a crazy setup. And 2) that there are much crazier cars in the city. :)
